Countdown Extra: What You Know Bout Love - Pop Smoke

So Shawn Mendes’ big release from last week, Wonder, the title track from his upcoming album coming this December. This song’s pretty good. It’s definitely not one of his best songs, In My Blood is leagues better, but this is still pretty good. It sounds really cinematic and I think Shawn’s voice works really well with that. It’s decently catchy and definitely not forgettable, I could remember what it sounded like after just one listen. I hope this is a hit here. Good song.

Biggest DROP!!!: Before You Go - Lewis Capaldi (-8): Finally. This song lasted for way too long in the top 10 and I’m really happy that it’s finally moving out even if I still somewhat like it.

Biggest Jump: ily (i love you baby) - Surf Mesa/Emilee (+10): Really? I just started not liking this and now it jumps into the top 15? This shouldn’t be a hit.

So the late Pop Smoke actually gets his first song on Hits 1, What You Know Bout Love. I like this song. I can definitely see this moving up to green soon. It was really only blue because the other Pop Smoke songs are better, but this is definitely still good. Pop’s voice is good as it always is and the song’s pretty catchy. The production can get kind of boring but overall this is a good song.

So X Lovers bring us a song this week and if anybody remembers Play Your Game, the Hit-Bound dropout from earlier this year, this is the same group. This time they’re teaming up with chloe moriondo on Haunt You and this is worse than Play Your Game and PYG was bad. None of the people here sound good and whoever’s singing in X Lovers really doesn’t sound good and the low stuff does not work with his voice. chloe’s voice is honestly kind of boring. The production’s kind of non-existent and this is super boring. I hope this doesn’t debut.

So POPSTAR by DJ Khaled and Drake actually came back to Hits 1 this week and I’m totally fine with that. It would’ve made more sense about a month ago, but I’m definitely still okay with it being back, since I’m actually starting to like it now.

So an interesting combo is next in the form of Bebe Rexha and Doja Cat. Never thought that would work, but Baby, I’m Jealous is actually good. Bebe always sounds good, there’s absolutely no denying that and I think Bebe and Doja actually work pretty well together. There’s a bit of a weird vocal effect on Bebe’s voice in the chorus and her rapping isn’t that good but the production’s pretty good and everything fits well together. Good song.

So there’s this jazzy-Lizzo-type song on Hits 1 now and it’s really good. It’s Broke Boy by Malia Civetz and I seriously hope this is the next Hits 1 to Watch and not Haunt You. This song captivated me literally from the first piano chord from the first time I heard it. Malia sounds really good and the song’s really catchy and the groove is fantastic. The instrumentation is great and everything works well together. Great song.

Jason Derulo brings his follow-up to Savage Love and it’s also a bop. It’s called Take You Dancing and it’s got kind of a salsa vibe to it and I love it. Jason Derulo sounds great as he always does and the song is extremely catchy. The bassline at the start of the chorus is also really good. I’m not sure why the female voice is there, but it fits in surprisingly well with the song. I really hope this becomes a hit. It’s also a decent length. Great song.

AJR bring their next song called Bummerland. This definitely isn’t as good as Bang!. I think it’s missing a lot of the fun blown-up AJR stuff that I love in their music. It feels a little substanceless. That being said, it’s still good. I like Jack Met’s voice and the lyrics are pretty feel-good, but it’s for sure missing some of that AJR charm.

Best Debut: Take You Dancing - Jason Derulo

I Wonder What It’s Like to Be Blurbed By You

We lost ROCKSTAR off of the Countdown this week and that really sucks even though it did pretty well here. It was a big hit, a great song and it deserved everything it got.

A couple Hit-Bound songs also left this week, Backyard Boy and WOW. Both songs weren’t good, so I’m happy that they’re both gone.

Holy dropped to the bottom spot this week, which kind of sucks since I’d like to see it be a hit.

Dynamite jumped six spots this week, which is great since it’s great.

Save Myself is getting close to the top 15, which isn’t fantastic, but it’s definitely better than Moral of the Story.

Savage Love got a decent rebound this week, which is good since I don’t really want it to leave soon.

cardigan somehow got a new peak this week. Glad to see it actually doing well here.

So Lose Somebody is in the top 10??? Um… alright! I’m definitely happy that it’s here.

So of course, Harry Styles had to hit #1 again with his newest “single”, Falling and there’s no reason for it to be #1. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a good song, it just has no right to be #1 and Come & Go should’ve stayed at #1 for a bit longer.

Seems like Be Happy’s gonna drop out of Hit-Bound. I feel like it deserved to debut, so I’m kind of sad that it didn’t.

Anyone else surprised that Wishing Well is still here?

    2. Yeah, because Heather should've left, Head And Heart got NO AirPlay even though it's till on the countdown, ISPGTB should've left, and Over now should've left because they got NO AirPlay.

  3. Hey guys! I would like to point out that my rankdown is extended to the end of the month. Tyler, I would also like you listen to the 20 songs and edit your submissions based upon, because I will not include your list if you randomly placed songs. You're supposed to listen to the songs for a reason.

    1. Also Tyler, you listed To Be Young twice which means you haven't ranked Heartless. Please just reply with the song you'd like to rank higher than the other. Thank you.

    3. You want Heartless to be lower than To Be Young then right?
