Week of June 27, 2020 - Harry Styles (1)

Harry Styles (1)

This is the fourth new #1 in a row that we’ve had on the countdown. Overall, I’d say it was a pretty good week. We got some great debuts and trash debuts both on Hit-Bound and the countdown, and aside from our top 3 being entirely 1D Bois, I think the rest of the countdown was pretty solid. So here are the exits this week:

Last Year’s #1: If I Can’t Have You - Shawn Mendes [1/9 weeks at #1]

Countdown Extra: Kings & Queens - Ava Max

Our first of three entrants this week is a long-time Hit-Bound veteran, 17 by Pink Sweat$. This song spent a total 12 weeks airing on Hit-Bound, with a three week break in the middle. In my opinion, I think the song is alright. It’s a little boring and slow, but I think the guy’s voice is pretty good. The chorus is pretty catchy, and it’s a bit better, but most of the song is just a bassline and a beat, and it definitely gets quite boring in the verses. I can’t really see this doing much on the countdown, but it’s definitely not unwelcome. *12 weeks in Hit-Bound, 13 weeks on Voting Poll

Our next song is actually a re-entry, but I haven’t reviewed it in a while, plus it’s a remix, so I’m gonna review it again. The only reason Moral of the Story by Ashe is back is because of Niall Horan. Who somehow makes the song significantly worse. The song was alright without him, although suffering some of the same problems as 17, but Ashe’s voice was good, and the production suited her, but Niall does not fit with this song. The lack of production on Niall’s voice and the heavy production on Ashe’s voice don’t mesh well together, and overall, I just think this is the worst Niall’s ever sounded. He’s not singing in a good octave for him, as it’s a little too high, and it just doesn’t sound that good. But the one thing that he does improve on is his addition to the “ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh-oh-oh-oh” thing, where he actually sounds quite good. But yeah, overall, this isn’t great.

Our final and highest debut, coming in at #24, is surprisingly another Roddy Ricch song. ROCKSTAR with DaBaby makes this DaBaby’s countdown debut (although it should’ve been on My Oh My), and both him and Ricch are very welcome here. If you read my Hot 100 post this week, you know that I’ve become a Roddy Ricch fan. He gives one of his best performances here. His verse slaps, and he sounds really good. But I’d say DaBaby does even better in this song. He actually sings pretty well in the chorus, making it actually suitable for pop fans, which is awesome, and his verse is spectacular. I especially like the message that he gives to his daughter. This definitely has potential here, and with Savage’s jump this week, it shows that rap songs can do well on the countdown, and I can see this probably jumping into the top 10 in the next few weeks. I love this song. *1 week in Hit-Bound, 3 weeks on Voting Poll

Best Entrant: ROCKSTAR - DaBaby/Roddy Ricch

Biggest DROP!!!: Maniac - Conan Gray & Before You Go - Lewis Capaldi (-10): I liked both of these songs a lot, but I’m not surprised that they’re dropping, since they’re getting kind of old, and I definitely expected this kind of run from Before You Go after hitting #1.

Biggest Jump: Like That - Doja Cat/Gucci Mane & Savage - Megan Thee Stallion (+10): Wow. Two rap songs had the biggest jump this week. A big jump too. Both songs are certainly welcome here, and I’m really happy that Savage is getting recognition here, being almost in the top 10.

Let’s Fall in Love for the Night - FINNEAS [6**]

I guess we’re kicking off our Hit-Bound entrants with a re-entry, MAMACITA. I’ve decided I like this song, mostly because of J. Rey Soul, but of course Hits 1 has to knock it off of the countdown right when I change my mind. Hopefully, it’ll debut soon.

Anyways, our first actual Hit-Bound debut this week, we didn’t know about because Hits 1 forgot to update the voting poll. This song was one of my recommendations for like a month straight, that’s right, it’s Lose Somebody by Kygo and OneRepublic. Yes, I like this a lot. I listened to the entirety of Golden Hours by Kygo, and it’s actually really good, and I’ve decided I definitely like his style, and collaborating with pop-rock artists almost always works in his favour, as was seen a couple years ago with Born to Be Yours with Imagine Dragons, which never debuted Hit-Bound. This song is really good though. Ryan Tedder sounds spectacular, and his songwriting is really good, as it normally is, and Kygo handles the production really well, with the drops actually being quite good, with last one definitely being the best. This has a relatively chill vibe to it, and I like it a lot. Hopefully this debuts, unlike Good Thing, probably the last EDM song that I really really liked.

Our last debut is Drinks by Cyn. Oh boy. Another Billie Eilish. She has an alright voice, but it’s not spectacular, and she does the whisper thing too. I’m really not into that creepy production, and I’d really rather not listen to this again. I’ll give it a better review if it debuts, because this is just off of one listen, but I definitely know I really don’t like this.

We’ll Be Blurbing the Same Groove When We’re 92, the Same As 17

Let’s Fall in Love for the Night refused to air in Hit-Bound this week, so it may very well be leaving next week, and although I’m sad, it’s not final because it’s still on the voting poll, so they may just be giving it a push, although I highly doubt that’s true.

We lost three countdown songs this week: MAMACITA, The Box and Say So. I already talked about MAMACITA, The Box was well past its peak, so although I’m disappointed, I get it. It had to make room for ROCKSTAR, and Say So was never good, and also old.

Hits 1 is pushing Kings & Queens again, as it's the countdown extra for the second time in three weeks. I can't really see it debuting, but whatever.

So for some reason, Hits 1 refuses to realize that Roses is a hit, as it dropped to the bottom 5 this week. What’s up with that?

I’m glad they’re giving Blueberry Faygo a chance though, as it jumped four spots this week.

Oh My God finally dropped out of the top 20 this week. This was long overdue, and was only up there because Hits 1 loves Alec Benjamin.

Blinding Lights is falling a little slowly, but still a little too quickly for my liking. It’ll still probably be #1 of the year though, unless a 1D member decides to beat it.

I’m glad Rain On Me is jumping again, but it’s only at #14! It deserves to be much higher than that!

X and Supalonely jumped into the top 10 this week. I’m happy about one, and not about the other. Take a wild guess which is which.

Old Me dropped down to #5 this week. I’m kind of shocked this didn’t last too long.

Midnight is somehow at #2 despite not being a hit anywhere. I can’t say I’m surprised though, as it’s Liam Payne. One Direction should just reunite already.

Watermelon Sugar is #1. Honestly can’t say I’m surprised. Just a little disappointed, because it could’ve gone to some much better songs such as Break My Heart, Be Kind or even The Bones. Ah, well. This will probably be #1 for about 14 weeks, because it’s Harry Styles and it’s actually a hit.

C’mon, Adele. Just release that song already. We’re waiting.

Last Year's #1: Old Town Road (Remix) - Lil Nas X/Billy Ray Cyrus [12/19 weeks at #1]

I guess I'll review every song I haven't yet on my countdown posts, starting with a top 40 debut, at #38, Walk Em Down by NLE Choppa and Roddy Ricch. Okay, fine! I may be really liking Roddy Ricch lately. Probably the only reason that this song isn't in green is because of NLE Choppa. I don't love his voice, and when he says "walk 'em down", and it echoes, I don't really like it. Roddy's verse is spectacular though, so it's still pretty good, I just think Choppa's chorus brought it down a lot. Ricch really does slap pretty much every time though. I'm really excited for what he has to bring in the future, and I think I should probably re-listen to Please Excuse Me For Being Antisocial.

In the next spot at #37, we have a top 40 re-entry, in the form of Emotionally Scarred by Lil Baby. I don't love Lil Baby. His voice really isn't that great, and the heavy autotune on it doesn't help that much. This song really isn't an exception. He goes pretty quickly, but there's not really a hook or anything. The production's kind of minimalistic, but the thing with minimalistic production is that you have to have the voice for it, and Lil Baby... doesn't. So yeah, this isn't great.

Another top 40 re-entry comes in at #36. GOOBA by 6ix9ine. When I was doing this, I was trying to decide whether this or TROLLZ would be my least favourite song, and although TROLLZ has Nicki Minaj, this ultimately wins the cake, because this has more yelling. He actually sounds decent when he raps normally, but he yells way too much in this, and I don't see how anyone can stand it, much less like it. This is very very bad, and we should not be giving this guy more hits.

Next up is One Margarita by Luke Bryan... I don't love country. I hate the southern accent in music, and the weird production doesn't help either. This song isn't special at all, and Luke Bryan's voice is only alright. The lyrics are okay at best, and this song just really isn't great. That being said, it's not bad, but it's just really not good.

One more spot up, we have Go Crazy by Chris Brown and Young Thug. This song is good. I normally don't like Young Thug, but he actually sounds decent here surprisingly. Chris Brown sounds really good, and the minimalistic production actually works well here compared to in Emotionally Scarred. Brown and Thug actually mesh really well together, which is odd, because both artists have pretty different vibes to them. The chorus is actually really good, and Chris Brown's verse is great. Overall, this is a really great song that definitely has potential to do well here.

A top 40 debut next, at #33, we have Bluebird by Miranda Lambert. This is technically the biggest jump of the week, but since it was a top 40 debut, I didn't count it as such, and counted it instead as Watermelon Sugar (which explains how this is gonna work in the future). I hate this song. A lot. It's country, and that guitar just literally kills me everytime. I can't help but cringe when I hear it. Miranda Lambert's vocals really don't help, as they're not great. The production's nothing to write home about, being simply a beat and a bassline throughout most of the song. Yeah, this really isn't good.

A former #1 at #32, it's THE SCOTTS by... THE SCOTTS. Which is actually just Travis Scott and Kid Cudi. Yeah, I think it's safe to say this is the only appearance THE SCOTTS will make on the Hot 100, I can't see them making anymore music. Ever since SICKO MODE, I've been a fan of Travis Scott, and he's been milking bangers since. Both Scott and Cudi actually sound pretty great and have good flow. Although Cudi's voice is a lot different than Travis Scott's more professional sound, it creates a nice contrast that I like really well. But the real highlight here is the production, which is just really really good. It's really cool, and I especially love the 8-bit stuff near the end. Pretty good song. Not great, but definitely good.

Again, one more spot up, we have Chasin' You by Morgan Wallen. I surprisingly like this song, despite me not loving country music. The chorus actually sounds really good, and Morgan Wallen's voice is surprisingly nice after how it sounded in Heartless. This is pretty catchy, and as far as country songs go, definitely one of the best.

The second of four Roddy Ricch songs in the top 40 this week, we have High Fashion with Mustard. I think you can probably expect me not to dislike any Roddy Ricch song that comes out from now on, as I've become a fan... in case you couldn't tell (y'know, with The Box being my purple on the countdown and ROCKSTAR being my purple on Hit-Bound this week). Ricch probably sounds the best he's ever sounded on this song. I think this was one of the songs that I actually didn't mind when I listened to his album. I actually never realized that Mustard was a producer, but he for sure does a really good job here. Yeah, this is good. I hope it does well here, and maybe debuts Hit-Bound sometime in the near future.

If you payed attention, you may have noticed that the next song here was actually my recommendation for Hits 1 this week, which is strange because it's a country song. I'm talking about Hard To Forget by Sam Hunt. On paper, this shouldn't work. I mean, this is the guy that did Body Like A Back Road, which I hated, using a sample from an old country song, with a trap beat. But I actually really like it. The chorus is just... incredible. I don't even have words. I love the trap beat, it reminds me a lot of Old Town Road, and Sam Hunt actually sounds good! The sample surprisingly works really well with the song, and he doesn't overuse it, which is good. I would for sure recommend this for pop radio, and if a pop artist could remix it to speed that up, that would be much appreciated.

Next is more Lil Baby, with 42 Dugg, called We Paid. I still stand by what I said earlier about Lil Baby. I don't love his voice. 42 Dugg really doesn't help in this song, as he just sounds absolutely horrible. That being said, I don't hate it, because the production's decent, but both artist's voices are really bad, and the chorus is annoying.

At #23, we have I Hope without Charlie Puth. Yeah, this is still good. Maybe not as good as the Charlie Puth version, but still good.

One spot up, we have Party Girl by StaySolidRocky. This is a good example of bad rap. Rocky's voice is really low, and has a weird vibrato thing on it, and it really doesn't fit well with the song, because there's a piano line in the production, which overall I don't think works really well with rap. Not much else to say about this one.

At #18, Jack Harlow comes up with WHATS POPPIN. I actually quite like this song. It's really catchy. The chorus is really good, and the verses are good too. Jack actually sounds pretty good, and he has great flow. The beat flows nicely, although the piano line is again weird (as I said before), but it's better than in Party Girl.

A pretty big hit here up next, we have Life Is Good by Future and Drake. Drake's had some alright songs lately, with In My Feelings being good and Toosie Slide being alright, but this is a big miss. Drake actually sounds alright, but Future kind of brings the song down for me. I actually quite like Drake's verse, but Future just doesn't sound good here. The beat's good in the first part and everything actually flows quite nicely, but then it switches to Future's part, which I can't really stand. The weird bassline really doesn't help with Future's voice, and overall, it brings this down to a red.

Nicki Minaj is on the Hot 100 version of Say So. She brings the song down even more somehow. There was no reason for them to switch, since the Minaj version actually hasn't blown up anywhere, so I'm kind of confused as to how this happened.

A Hot 100 debut this week at #3, we have The Bigger Picture by Lil Baby. I still stand by what I said earlier, but I think this song is definitely good. Lil Baby actually sounds pretty good here, and he has good flow, but the real highlight here are the lyrics, which are just spectacular and address the current issues really well. I would highly recommend just looking up the lyrics if you don't feel like listening to it, because I think this song was really well-written. But it helps that Lil Baby sounds the best he ever has.

Did we have to have a follow-up to FEFE? Answer: No. Also, why are we giving 6ix9ine a #1? Like, seriously? America couldn't find a better artist to give #1? Like DaBaby and Roddy Ricch who could've stayed at #1 for a third week instead of this clown? Although this song doesn't have as much yelling as GOOBA, TROLLZ with Nicki Minaj is still really bad. I hate the chorus, it sounds really bad, and a verse by Nicki Minaj is really not what I asked for. If this could leave next week, that would be much appreciated.

Best T40 Entrant: The Bigger Picture - Lil Baby

Biggest Drop: Chasin' You - Morgan Wallen (-9): Aw man. I talked earlier about how this was one of the only country songs I liked on this list. Sad to see it dropping.

Biggest Jump: Watermelon Sugar - Harry Styles (+10): I'm glad this is getting success, but I'm still really tired of it. Thanks, Hits 1.

GO - The Kid LAROI/Juice WRLD (DEBUT)
In Between - Scotty McCreery (OtV DEBUT)
Shotta Flow 5 - NLE Choppa (DEBUT)
If the World Was Ending - JP Saxe/Julia Michaels

I'll also talk about On the Verge songs that I haven't talked about yet, starting with I Hope You're Happy Now by Carly Pearce and Lee Brice. This is just another country song. There's nothing special about it, and overall, it's just kind of boring. Both artists sound fine, and it's catchy enough, but it gets pretty boring at points.

Another country song comes up next, Does To Me by Luke Combs and Eric Church. This song is literally the exact same as the last one. I like it a little more though, because there's a little more substance to it, and the lyrics are good. Other than that, it's just another country song.

More country in the form of a duet by Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani comes up next, called Nobody But You. This song is good. Blake and Gwen have good chemistry, (I wonder why) and they both sound pretty good. It's actually quite catchy, and the production's actually pretty good.

I know what you're thinking. "But Beluga, you like Heartless, don't you?" I like the Julia Michaels version of Heartless. She brings up the song a lot, and it feels empty without her. Also, Morgan Wallen's voice in his version actually isn't great.

More country... because our On the Verge is just flooded with it. After A Few by Travis Denning is really bad. The guitar in this song sounds really similar to the one in Bluebird, (which is to say, bad) and Travis Denning's voice really doesn't sound that great. Other than that, I just find the chorus really really annoying. When he sings "After a feeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeew" I just want to leave the room. Next.

Next is Dior by Pop Smoke. I actually quite like Pop Smoke's voice. His voice is really low, but I kind of dig it. The layering and the production sound really good together. He doesn't sound fantastic in the chorus, but other than that, it's a very solid song. I like the beat, it's not too fast, and it works really well with the song. Overall, this is really good.

More Pop Smoke is next, this time with Rowdy Rebel, called Make It Rain. This isn't as good as Dior, but it's still really solid. It's essentially a carbon copy of Dior, which is probably why I don't love it, because it's the copy, but overall, it's good, and literally just copy-paste what I said for Dior.

The late Juice WRLD makes a Hot 100 debut up next, with The Kid LAROI, called GO. This song is alright. LAROI doesn't sound really good, and the chorus isn't spectacular, and neither is LAROI's voice really, but Juice WRLD's stuff is fantastic. The legend sounds good as always, and it fits really well with the production. Decent song.

More country. 'Nuff said. No, but seriously, In Between by Scotty McCreery isn't great. First, I'd just like to point out his name. Who would name their child Scotty? That sounds like a nickname. Anyways, this song is just extremely boring. None of it is special at all, and it just blends into the rest of the country songs that I've had to review, and I can't remember for the life of me what this sounds like.

Um... Shotta Flow 5? I guess this is the fifth Shotta Flow that NLE Choppa has made? Maybe? I'm not quite sure. This isn't good. I already made my opinions about NLE Choppa in Walk Em Down, being that I don't like him. He's definitely more tolerable in Walk Em Down, but Roddy Ricch carrys that song anyways. I don't love the production on this, and Choppa really doesn't help when he yells. Overall, this isn't great.

Countdown Extra: 100 Ways - Jackson Wang

All three of our entrants this week notched in at the bottom three spots on the countdown. So we’re kicking it off at #30 with MAMACITA by the Black Eyed Peas, Ozuna and J. Rey Soul. I’m not entirely sold on the whole spanish Black Eyed Peas thing yet, but I liked RITMO, and I don’t hate this, but I think BEP just did some better stuff before. I appreciate that they’re putting female artists in their songs, and I think J. Rey Soul does a fantastic job vocally and charismatically here. She mixes really well with will.i.am and the whole idea of the song, so I think that was a really great choice, but I don’t love Ozuna. He’s alright and everything, but I just find his parts kind of boring. Overall, the song’s pretty catchy and I love the chorus, but the verses bring this down a lot for me.

Our final debut is yet another Taylor Swift song from her album Lover, this one being called Cruel Summer. This is for sure one of the best songs from the album, although not being in my top 3 (it probably lands in the top 5 though). Taylor’s vocals are amazing as always, and this song is very catchy. I love the bridge, and the lyrics in it are fantastic. Even though this isn’t a single, I wouldn’t mind if Hits 1 pushes this song and it does well here.

Our final entrant this week is a re-entry from Doja Cat and Gucci Mane, called Like That. Overall, I’m glad that this re-entered because this is becoming a hit. Although I don’t love it, I’m still happy it’s here.

Best Debut: Cruel Summer - Taylor Swift

Biggest DROP!!!: Stuck with U - Ariana Grande/Justin Bieber & Intentions - Justin Bieber/Quavo (-7): A bad week for Justin Bieber. Stuck with U is extremely forgettable, so I don’t really care that it’s dropping, and although Intentions is a hit, I’m starting to lose interest in it, do I don’t care about that one either.

Biggest Jump: Supalonely - BENEE/Gus Dapperton (+10): Why the heck is this in the top 20? I thought it was gonna flop here. Oh well.

So Moral of the Story is probably gonna debut next week. Why, you may ask? Because Niall Horan remixed it and you know how much Hits 1 loves Niall. I didn’t like the song before, but I like it a lot less now. Niall actually really doesn’t sound good surprisingly, and his voice doesn’t really mix well with the song at all. Yeah, I really don’t like this anymore.

Dang, we’ve been getting a lot of rap songs lately. Our only real Hit-Bound debut this week is Don’t Rush by Young T & Bugsey and Headie One. They’re from the UK, and you can really hear it. I love their accents, and they work really well with the song. The production’s pretty minimalistic, but it works. I don’t think their voices have that much charisma, and that brings down the song slightly, but not too much. Overall, it’s decent.

Heartless left the countdown and re-entered Hit-Bound this week. I’m glad it’s not gone, but I’m sad it’s not on the countdown anymore.

Ooooooh, Oh, Oh, It’s a Cruuuuuel Blurber

Our countdown exits this week are: In Your Eyes, Heartless and me & ur ghost. Although In Your Eyes flopped a little on the Hot 100, it still had potential to do well here, and I’m sad it didn’t. me & ur ghost was never a hit, unlike hot girl bummer, so I wish it flopped earlier, since it was only mediocre.

We lost two Hit-Bound songs this week… kind of. Both CITY OF ANGELS and the other girl are gone, but both had already debuted the countdown. I liked them both, but I don’t care that they’re gone because they did debut the countdown.

Why did Roses drop? It’s literally in the top 10 on the Hot 100!

The Box dropped? Why?

Why is Rain On Me almost out of the top 20? It’s a huge hit, and it should’ve jumped.

Also, why is death bed in the top 20?

Our new #1 is Old Me… because 5SOS. Great.

Countdown Extra: Kings & Queens - Ava Max

We actually got a decent amount of debuts this week! 5! We’re starting at the second-lowest spot on the countdown, #29, Blueberry Faygo by Lil Mosey. This song is an absolute banger. It’s extremely catchy, and the chorus absolutely slaps. Mosey actually sounds pretty great, and although the background vocals are a bit odd, it still manages to work. I really hope that this song does well here, because it’s really great. It might, but I’m not sure. *6 weeks in Hit-Bound, 7 weeks on Voting Poll

It’s a little odd that they switched to the original Savage by Megan Thee Stallion, since the BeyoncĂ© remix of it seemed much more suited for Hits 1. Overall though, I think I like the original better than the remix. Megan actually has some pretty great flow, and the chorus is actually less annoying than I thought it would be. The production’s pretty great, and I love the beat in pretty much every way. So yeah, this is actually a good TikTok song. **3 weeks in Hit-Bound, 5 weeks on Voting Poll

Right above Savage, we get the Charlie Puth remix of I Hope by Gabby Barrett. I never thought a Puth remix of a country song would work, but it surprisingly works really well. Both Gabby and Charlie’s voices fit with the song and actually mesh pretty well together. The chorus is honestly great, and as a non-lover of country, this really works for me. The production is absolutely nailed, and it honestly sounds more like a pop song than a country song. The reverbed snapping sounds fantastic. So yeah, this is a great song. ***4 weeks in Hit-Bound, 7 weeks on Voting Poll

This is our only debut this week that isn’t great. It’s DJ Fle’s Minisiren Remix of Banana by Conkarah and Shaggy. This skipped Hit-Bound, only spending a week on the voting poll, so I actually talked about this last week. My opinion still stands. It’s pretty odd. The drop actually sounds pretty good, with the low saxophone working really well, but overall, I think latino music is just odd. Shaggy’s voice is alright I guess, but the song is so odd, I find it hard to get behind. Even if it’s catchy enough. *0 weeks in Hit-Bound, 1 week on Voting Poll

Our long overdue debut this week is The Box by Roddy Ricch, and this week we actually had two Roddy Ricch songs air on Hits 1 shows, which in my opinion is a step in the right direction. Roddy has great flow, and the production fits really well with it. The “eeh-ooh” sound works really well with the entire song, and I’m really glad this is finally on the countdown. Applause for Roddy Ricch. *2 weeks in Hit-Bound, 3 weeks on Voting Poll

Best Debut: The Box - Roddy Ricch

Biggest DROP!!!: In Your Eyes - The Weeknd (-16): This song’s in the bottom spot, at #30, and I really hope it doesn’t leave soon. This song’s great, and I’m sad to see it didn’t do as well as the other two singles.

Biggest Jump: Rain On Me - Lady Gaga/Ariana Grande (+12): I’m very happy this is all the way up at #16. This song’s an absolute banger, and I can see it being a smash hit, here and everywhere.

Breaking Me - Topic/A7S [1]
MAMACITA - Black Eyed Peas/Ozuna/J. Rey Soul [1]

CITY OF ANGELS left this week, and is now back in Hit-Bound for the third time. I would say I’m happy, but this is getting a little ridiculous, don’t you think?

So our first song available for vote may or may not be a non-single. I’m not sure. It’s Cruel Summer by Taylor Swift. I haven’t seen anywhere that it is a single, but I’m not entirely convinced that it’s not. Anyways, this is for sure one of the best songs from the album. Not the top 3, (that would be Miss Americana, Paper Rings and ME!) but for sure up there. Taylor sounds really good, and it’s extremely catchy. I don’t really love the robotic vocals, but the rest makes up for it. Listening back to it, it’s actually better than I thought it was when they played it every hour last week on Hits 1. That may just be because it sounds better in earbuds, but whatever. So yeah, this is a great song, single or not.

This next song is definitely not as good. It’s a song by JoJo called Man. I really don’t like JoJo’s voice. Let’s just get that straight. I for sure don’t like it in the chorus, and for most of the rest of the song. I don’t think there’s enough production. Whoever did that almost went for a minimalist type of production, and I really don’t think it worked. Overall, I think this song just feels kind of sloppy, even if the chorus is decently catchy.

So my recommendation from last week actually debuted Hit-Bound this week! When does that happen? Anyways, it’s Breaking Me by Topic and A7S. The production in this song is extremely Roses-esque, and A7S’ voice kind of sounds like Lewis Capaldi’s, except with a little less grit. I love the chorus in this, and I think the production fits really well with it, and I love the decision to make this an EDM song. I actually quite like A7S’ voice, and overall this is a spectacular song that didn’t come out of TikTok, like I thought it did, so that’s good.

Y’know, I don’t think I like spanish Black Eyed Peas. I mean, it’s alright, it’s not the worst thing in the world, RITMO, which we lost this week, was actually pretty solid, but I don’t think MAMACITA with Ozuna and J. Rey Soul worked as well. It’s still very catchy, so that’s good, but I don’t really love the “drop” (if you can call it that). I appreciate that they put a female singer in every song in some way, shape or form, and I think J. Rey Soul works really really well with this song. I don’t love Ozuna or Chorona’s parts though. will.i.am is still spectacular every time. Overall, it’s alright, but it definitely has some weak parts. Plus, it’s a little long.

I’m a Savage, Classy, Blurby, Ratchet

We lost five songs today, (well, technically four, if you don’t count COA), CITY OF ANGELS, RITMO, Ride It, If the World Was Ending and I Love Me. I already talked about COA, RITMO was getting kind of old, Ride It was never good, and I’m glad it’s leaving space for Roses to jump higher, ItWWE definitely faded on me, so I’m glad it’s gone, and I Love Me dropped off of #10, making it the highest ever dropout on the countdown. I don’t think it deserved that, but it wasn’t Blinding Lights, so I’m okay with it.

Heartless actually jumped up a couple spots this week, so hopefully it’ll actually do well here.

me & ur ghost finally dropped out of the top 20. This was well overdue.

Stuck with U is so forgettable. I’m reminded it exists every time I hear it.

Roses is jumping!!! Yay! It’s actually been growing on me a lot lately, even though I liked it in the first place.

I was jamming to ROCKSTAR this week, enough to put it at my favourite song on Hit-Bound. I hope it debuts soon.

Say So is finally starting to drop. I’m glad this never hit #1.

X jumped a ton this week. I'm pretty happy with that.

Blinding Lights is dropping really fast, and I’m scared.

Midnight somehow made it into the top 10. I don’t know how, but I’m happy nonetheless.

Be Kind took a huge jump into the top 10 this week, so it could very possibly actually become a hit.

Okay, sorry. Before You Go is #1? I left for a day, and this is what I come back to? How did this happen? I’m not complaining, but I’m still really confused. This song now becomes the first to hit #1 while also not being on the voting poll. Can’t really say I’m disappointed.

These Two Windows came and went, and there’s no new Alec Benjamin songs. Yay.

And finally, we lost two Hit-Bound songs this week, adding to our already more than last year count of Hit-Bound dropouts. Toosie Slide and If You’re Too Shy left, and I’m happy to see both of them go, even if the former was a hit.
