Hot 100 Overview: Week of March 27, 2021 - Cardi B (1)

Cardi B (1)
It was a pretty active week this week, but honestly, every week on the Hot 100 is pretty active, so... Voting for round 2 of March Madness is officially open, so I'd highly recommend doing that. New music this week from NF, Imagine Dragons, Machine Gun Kelly and more!

The Top 10
#1: Up - Cardi B (+5) [1st week at #1] {6 weeks} *new peak*
#2: Leave The Door Open - Silk Sonic (+2) [#2] {2 weeks} *new peak*
#3: drivers license - Olivia Rodrigo (+2) [8 weeks at #1] {10 weeks}
#4: What's Next - Drake (-3) [1 week at #1] {2 weeks}
#5: Save Your Tears - The Weeknd (+2) [#4] {14 weeks}
#6: Blinding Lights - The Weeknd (+2) [4 weeks at #1] {67 weeks}
#7: Levitating - Dua Lipa/DaBaby (+6) [#5] {24 weeks}
#8: Mood - 24kGoldn/iann dior (+2) [8 weeks at #1] {32 weeks}
#9: 34+35 - Ariana Grande (-) [#2] {20 weeks}
#10: Wants and Needs - Drake/Lil Baby (-8) [#2] {2 weeks}

So this week, this was when the Grammys impacted. So there are some boosts from performers at the Grammys. Obviously, Up took the #1 spot, which I'm quite happy about. Leave The Door Open jumped up to #2, which I don't care about and it probably won't stay there anyways, so whatever. Levitating also got a boost, but I also only expect this to last about a week. I'm glad to see drivers license back up at #3 this week and I hope that it can manage to go back to the #1 spot, even if only for a week.

Debuts

#36: Street Runner - Rod Wave

This guy had a song last year called Rags2Riches, which I didn't mind. As for this song, it's pretty good. It takes a really long time to start, just like Rags2Riches, but once it does, it's quite good. The sample here sounds really good and I think Rod Wave sounds great and works well with the beat. I hope this sticks around for a bit.

#70: On The Ground - ROSÉ

This person's apparently in the k-pop group BLACKPINK and now she's going solo. This is a really good song. It doesn't sound that much like a k-pop song, which I really appreciate because k-pop is not my style. ROSÉ sounds really great here and the production works so well with the song here. The melody's really interesting and the chorus is actually quite catchy. I really like this song.

#79: LOST - NF/Hopsin

NF's releasing a mixtape called CLOUDS (THE MIXTAPE) and this is the second single from it. I think that this one's better than the title track, which was released a few weeks ago. The beat here sounds really good and I think that NF's flow works really well with it. Hopsin also works quite well with the song. Yeah, this is good and it'll probably leave next week.

#83: Follow You - Imagine Dragons

In my opinion, this was one of the weaker Imagine Dragons singles. Clearly people agreed with me, as it didn't debut too high this week. It's still pretty good though and I'm glad that it managed to debut anyways. I hope it doesn't leave too soon.

#88: DAYWALKER! - Machine Gun Kelly/CORPSE

I've been liking MGK's stuff recently, but this really isn't for me. The production really doesn't sound good and CORPSE's voice sounds a lot like 6ix9ine's yelling voice, which is to say not good. I really hope that this doesn't stay here and I'm really shocked that it debuted.

#90: Settling Down - Miranda Lambert

Great... my favourite country artist. This definitely isn't her worst, but nothing about it is that interesting. Yeah, that's all I have to say about this.

Best Debut: Follow You - Imagine Dragons

Worst Debut: DAYWALKER! - Machine Gun Kelly/CORPSE

Re-Entries

#84: Baila Conmigo - Selena Gomez/Rauw Alejandro (RE-ENTRY) [#74] {2 weeks}

This song re-entered because Selena Gomez released her EP. I think this song is pretty good. Both Selena and Rauw Alejandro sound pretty good here and it's got a good, steady beat that compliments the song well. Good song, I hope it doesn't leave right away, although it probably will.

#87: Like I Want You - Giveon (RE-ENTRY) [#87] {4 weeks} *new peak*

I'm pretty sure Giveon released the album that this is on and I never liked this song, so whatever.

#100: Undivided - Tim McGraw/Tyler Hubbard (RE-ENTRY) [#76] {2 weeks}

Just another generic mediocre country song. Good lyrics, and I like that a country artist is tackling these topics, but that's about everything that sticks out for me.

Losses
#31: Lemon Pepper Freestyle - Drake/Rick Ross (-28) [#3] {2 weeks}
#45: Whoopty - CJ (-16) [#10] {19 weeks}
#58: Real As It Gets - Lil Baby/EST Gee (-24) [#34] {2 weeks}
#59: Hold On - Justin Bieber (-33) [#26] {2 weeks}
#81: Beers And Sunshine - Darius Rucker (-12) [#42] {14 weeks}
#94: Hellcats & Trackhawks - Only The Family/Lil Durk (-20) [#74] {2 weeks}

Did the best of the three Drake songs from last week really have to drop that much? I mean, come on. As for Whoopty, it was getting kind of old. Hold On will probably rebound next week because of the release of Justice and the rest are forgettable.

Gains
#25: Astronaut In The Ocean - Masked Wolf (+12) [#25] {5 weeks} *new peak*
#26: No More Parties (Remix) - Coi Leray/Lil Durk (+13) [#26] {6 weeks} *new peak*
#30: Heartbreak Anniversary - Giveon (+22) [#30] {5 weeks} *new peak*
#75: Pick Up Your Feelings - Jazmine Sullivan (+10) [#75] {8 weeks} *new peak*

I'm really glad to see Astronaut In The Ocean and Pick Up Your Feelings gaining and I don't care about the other two.

Dropouts
Holy - Justin Bieber/Chance the Rapper (#49) [#3] {25 weeks}
Golden - Harry Styles (#65) [#57] {20 weeks}
Lifestyle - Jason Derulo/Adam Levine (#81) [#71] {5 weeks}
Moonwalking in Calabasas - DDG (#93) [#81] {11 weeks}
Tyler Herro - Jack Harlow (#94) [#34] {20 weeks}
Somebody's Problem - Morgan Wallen (#95) [#25] {13 weeks}
Cover Me Up - Morgan Wallen (#96) [#52] {10 weeks}
Life's A Mess II - Juice WRLD/Clever/Post Malone (#97) [#97] {1 week}
AP - Pop Smoke (#99) [#64] {2 weeks}

Holy and Tyler Herro were getting kind of old, so I'm not really disappointed that either of them are gone. Golden was never good and I don't get why it was even somewhat of a hit in the first place. I never expected Lifestyle to be a hit, so whatever. Moonwalking in Calabasas was quite good and deserved better. Life's A Mess II was great, but I never expected it to last more than a week. As for AP, it wasn't Pop Smoke's best, so whatever. WYKBL is still doing well.

Kwaheri, everybody! See you all in the next one.

Last Year's #1: Adore You - Harry Styles [7/10 weeks at #1]

Countdown Extra: Patience - KSI/YUNGBLUD/Polo G

Well, I definitely wasn't expecting that. Despite getting really not many spins this week, Too Late by Cash Cash, Wiz Khalifa and Lukas Graham debuts at #30 this week. I'm quite happy that this debuted so soon, as I really enjoy this song. Both Wiz Khalifa and Lukas Graham (which is actually apparently a band) sound quite good here. Cash Cash's production is really great too and they really pull this song together. I hope that this becomes a hit here.

ILLENIUM scores his first song on the Weekend Countdown and iann dior scores his third with this new song, First Time. This is an EDM/Pop-rock song and I think it was executed quite well. iann dior sounds really good here (much better than he did in Holding On) and ILLENIUM's production works really well with his voice. The song is pretty catchy too. I hope that this sticks around for a bit.

Justin Bieber released his new album, Justice about a week ago and with it, he released two singles. One of those singles, Peaches featuring Daniel Caesar and Giveon debuts this week. I really would've preferred the other single, As I Am featuring Khalid. This song is quite bad. The chorus is just straight-up annoying and nobody sounds good here. The song isn't even interesting enough to even start to save the song from those faults, too. I really hope that this isn't a hit, but hopefully, since Hits 1 tends to not really like Justin Bieber, they won't let this song do too well.

Best Debut: Too Late - Cash Cash/Wiz Khalifa/Lukas Graham

Biggest DROP!!!: Monsters - All Time Low/Demi Lovato/blackbear (-20): This is the biggest drop that we've had since before the Countdown was shortened, I'm pretty sure. I'm definitely not surprised that this song dropped, but I'm surprised that it dropped all the way down to #24 from #4, though.

Biggest Jump: Leave The Door Open - Silk Sonic & Way Less Sad - AJR (+12): Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if this week ended up getting the award for "Biggest Combined Movers" in the Year in Review 2021 post. I'm really happy that Way Less Sad is all the way up at #13 and I hope this means that it becomes a big hit here. As for Leave The Door Open, I expected it, but I don't really care. ,'-',

Patience - KSI/YUNGBLUD/Polo G [1]
Sacrifice - Bebe Rexha [3]
Remember That Night? - Sara Kays [7]
Goosebumps (Remix) - Travis Scott/HVME [7]

slower by Tate McRae re-entered Hit-Bound this week. I really don't care that it's back.

Ariana Grande's now released her third single from her album Positions and it's pov, my personal favourite from the album. I'm so happy that she decided to release this, as it's fantastic. Ariana's voice absolutely shines throughout this entire song, especially in the chorus. The writing's also just really fantastic. The production compliments this song really well too. I really love this song and I really hope that it becomes her next #1 song on the Hot 100.

24kGoldn released his first studio album this week, called El Dorado (which is "The Golden" in spanish, by the way) and with the release of the album, 3, 2, 1 dropped out of the Countdown and re-entered Hit-Bound. I would've liked to see his new song Love Or Lust debut this week, but whatever. Also, I don't really care that this didn't really end up sticking around.

I don't know what's weirder: pretty much every TikTok star making music or the fact that Hits 1 keeps picking up on their songs. Anyways, Addison Rae tried her hand at music with her new song Obsessed. It's... fine. I'm not sure how she got benny blanco to produce this, but whatever. She's definitely not the best singer and the production isn't anything too unique, but it's still not bad. One trend that I've noticed though is that these TikTok-ers aren't the best songwriters. The writing in this song really reminds me of Me Too by Meghan Trainor (which I don't like, by the way). I guess it was supposed to be a self-confidence song, but it wasn't executed very well.

Alright, quick breath of fresh air before we jump back into social media people making music. This song's called Sucks Being Sober and it's by a new artist called Annika Wells. This song's fun. I think Annika Wells sounds quite good here and the production compliments her voice and the melody really well. There's not much too interesting to talk about here, but it's definitely still an enjoyable song.

So this YouTuber called KSI has decided to start music, so he has a new song with YUNGBLUD and Polo G called Patience. I'm not entirely sure whether I should take KSI seriously or not, as I'm not familiar with him, but from the sound of this song, I'd say he's at least trying to be taken seriously as an artist and I buy it. He's definitely not the best singer, but he's definitely better than Addison Rae. I don't think YUNGBLUD sounds very good in the chorus and he probably wasn't the best choice here and Polo G doesn't sound great either, but the production's really good and the melody's quite interesting. This might be a grower, but probably not.

Best Debut: pov - Ariana Grande

I Get My Blurbs Down In Georgia (Oh Yeah)

So the Countdown exits that I haven't talked about yet are Lasting Lover and Lie Lie Lie. It really sucks to see Lasting Lover left, especially right after I grew back into it. As for Lie Lie Lie, it definitely faded on me from when it first entered Hit-Bound and I never really expected it to be a hit anyways, so I don't care about that one too much.

As for Hit-Bound exits, we lost Provide, Follow You, Bad Girl and Beginning Middle End. It really sucks that Hits 1 isn't giving many rap songs a chance to do well on the Countdown and I think Provide deserved to do well. I'm like 99% sure that Follow You isn't gone and it'll re-enter next week, as it's still getting spins and it literally only spent a week here and Hits 1 really likes Imagine Dragons. As for Bad Girl and Beginning Middle End, I never really cared about either of them, so I don't really care that they're gone.

Looks like Put Your Records On doesn't have much time left here, which is good especially considering it's gaining pretty much everywhere else.

Golden dropped to #21 this week. It was at #2 last week. WOOOOH! We can finally get rid of this and now Treat People With Kindness can hit #1, which I'm actually fine with, as it's a good song.

Beautiful Mistakes made a big gain from its debut last week, which is good.

Heat Waves is now a top 15 hit and while I wasn't expecting it, I'll definitely take it.

Wow, I'm not Pretty is now the third One to Watch to actually make it into the top 15. Could it become the second One to Watch to make it to the top 10? Maybe.

Sorry, why did My Head & My Heart drop to #12? This makes no sense.

Till Forever Falls Apart is now all the way at #9, which means this will probably hit #1 because Hits 1 discovered Ashe. And yes, I'm still convinced that if Niall Horan hadn't have hopped on Moral of the Story, this never would've happened.

Overdrive is now a top 10 hit, which I'm really happy about. I'd love to see this make it into the top 5, maybe even hit #1. Who knows?

We're Good also had a huge gain to #7 this week. Sure, I'll take it, I guess.

Therefore I Am is now up to #5, which absolutely sucks. It should be gone by now.

drivers license fell off of #1, making willow our new #1. I guess I'll take it, although drivers license should still be #1.

Hot 100 Overview: Week of March 20, 2021 - Drake (1)

Drake (1)
Hey everybody! It was an extremely active week this week, so I won't stretch out this intro too much. Just one thing: I've decided to close submissions for Blogger March Madness 2021 on Sunday, so make sure you get your submissions in by then! New music on this post from Drake, Justin Bieber, Juice WRLD and more!

The Top 10
#1: What's Next - Drake (DEBUT) [1st week at #1] {1 week}
#2: Wants and Needs - Drake/Lil Baby (DEBUT) [#2] {1 week}
#3: Lemon Pepper Freestyle - Drake/Rick Ross (DEBUT) [#3] {1 week}
#4: Leave The Door Open - Silk Sonic (DEBUT) [#4] {1 week}
#5: drivers license - Olivia Rodrigo (-4) [8 weeks at #1] {9 weeks}
#6: Up - Cardi B (-4) [#2] {5 weeks}
#7: Save Your Tears - The Weeknd (-1) [#4] {13 weeks}
#8: Blinding Lights - The Weeknd (-5) [4 weeks at #1] {66 weeks}
#9: 34+35 - Ariana Grande (-5) [#2] {19 weeks}
#10: Mood - 24kGoldn/iann dior (-3) [8 weeks at #1] {31 weeks}

This top 10 is much more active than it's been the past few weeks, so that's good. Obviously the big story of the week is the three Drake songs debuting at the top. I'll get onto my opinion on those later, but this is also the first time in history that the entire top 4 has been debuts, which is crazy. drivers license fell to #5, but it could go back to #1 unless Leave The Door Open or Up go to #1 because of the Grammys. Also, it's absolutely ridiculous that Blinding Lights is still here.

Debuts

#1: What's Next - Drake

So with the release of Scary Hours 2, every song from it debuts at the top of the chart, which is absolutely insane. Anyways, this is the single from it, What's Next and it's our new #1. This song's pretty good. Drake actually sounds like he cares about the song, which is nice. The hook is also decently catchy. My only real problem with this is that the production can get kind of annoying because it's repetitive. But that's about it, this is still good.

#2: Wants and Needs - Drake/Lil Baby

The second song from Scary Hours 2 is next and it debuts at #2 this week. I only really have two problems with this. The first is that at the start of the song, Drake is really off time with the music and the second thing is that Lil Baby doesn't sound great in the hook. It's definitely not his worst performance, though, so it's fine. Plus, he sounds good in his verse, kind of like how he sounded in The Bigger Picture, which is my favourite song from him. This is good and I can actually see this sticking around for a while.

#3: Lemon Pepper Freestyle - Drake/Rick Ross

This is my favourite song from Scary Hours 2. Both artists sound really good here and the sample actually works really well with the song. That's it, just a solid song.

#4: Leave The Door Open - Silk Sonic

I'm pretty sure everybody knows that this song exists at this point. I never really expected it to debut so high though and yeah, if Scary Hours 2 came out a week later, this would've been the #1 song. Anyways, I think this song's alright, Bruno sounds really good here, but it's only slightly boring and it doesn't feel like it should be on the radio. Still solid though and I definitely don't hate it.

#26: Hold On - Justin Bieber

This was a promotional single from Justin Bieber's new album, Justice, which came out yesterday. This definitely isn't the best of the singles so far, but it's not the worst either. He sounds good here and the melody's good. My only issue with it is that I think there should've been a little more production in the chorus, as it's really just the bassline and I think it would have benefited from some more production. This may not stay here for much longer.

#34: Real As It Gets - Lil Baby/EST Gee

This is definitely the worst Lil Baby song that debuted this week. He doesn't really sound good here at all and while I think the production's pretty good, his voice just brings it down a lot. EST Gee has a pretty good verse here, though.

#54: Beautiful Mistakes - Maroon 5/Megan Thee Stallion

This really didn't debut as high as I expected it too. It kind of sucks too, because I do like this song. I already talked about this song literally today, so all I'll say is that I hope it sticks around for a bit and does better than Nobody's Love did.

#74: Hellcats & Trackhawks - Only The Family/Lil Durk

This is a pretty bad song. There's way too much stuff happening in the production that it almost feels crowded. Lil Durk also doesn't sound that good here and nothing about this works. Next.

#97: Life's A Mess II - Juice WRLD/Clever/Post Malone

So apparently this was the original mix of the Juice WRLD song that featured Halsey that popped up in his 2020 album Legends Never Die. I liked this song a lot when it was just the original and this version goes for a bit more of an acoustic sound and I think it works extremely well with Juice WRLD's voice and it really shows off how good his voice was. Both Clever and Post Malone have decent verses here, but Halsey's verse being gone is still a loss. She/they really worked well with the song and it kind of sucks to not have her/them on this version, but I still really enjoy this version.

#100: Lil Bit - Nelly/Florida Georgia Line

This song should be at least decent, but it really wasn't executed well. The song that these guys did together from a while back, Cruise, was great, but this really isn't. The verses are decent, but then they go to the chorus and it just feels like it should evolve more than it does. It really doesn't though and then I come to the fact that the FGL guys don't sound that great and it really brings the song down.

Best Debut: Life's A Mess II - Juice WRLD/Clever/Post Malone

Worst Debut: Hellcats & Trackhawks - Only The Family/Lil Durk

Losses
#24: For The Night - Pop Smoke/Lil Baby/DaBaby (-10) [#6] {36 weeks}
#25: Beat Box 2 / 3 - SpottemGottem/Pooh Shiesty / DaBaby (-10) [#15] {8 weeks}
#29: Whoopty - CJ (-11) [#10] {18 weeks}
#33: GOOD TIME - Niko Moon (-13) [#20] {23 weeks}
#42: willow - Taylor Swift (-10) [1 week at #1] {13 weeks}
#44: WITHOUT YOU - The Kid LAROI (-10) [#34] {14 weeks}
#46: Throat Baby (Go Baby) - BRS Kash (-18) [#24] {21 weeks}
#48: Down To One - Luke Bryan (-12) [#36] {11 weeks}
#49: Holy - Justin Bieber/Chance the Rapper (-20) [#3] {25 weeks}
#69: Beers And Sunshine - Darius Rucker (-16) [#42] {13 weeks}
#81: Lifestyle - Jason Derulo/Adam Levine (-10) [#71] {5 weeks}
#87: Neighbors - Pooh Shiesty/BIG30 (-11) [#51] {5 weeks}
#91: Finesse Out The Gang Way - Lil Durk/Lil Baby (-12) [#39] {6 weeks}
#94: Tyler Herro - Jack Harlow (-16) [#34] {20 weeks}
#99: AP - Pop Smoke (-35) [#64] {2 weeks}

Wow, this is a big list. Alright, let's do this: For The Night is good but old, Beat Box never should've jumped, Whoopty deserved to be a bigger hit, GOOD TIME faded on me, so I don't care, willow was always good, but I'm satisfied with the amount of success it got, WITHOUT YOU is great and I'm sad that it's fading, Throat Baby isn't memorable whatsoever, same with Down To One, Holy is great but old, Beers And Sunshine was never good, Lifestyle was good but was never destined to become a hit, Neighbors is forgettale, FOTGW is good, so it sucks that it's leaving, Tyler Herro's kind of old and would've been gone next week anyways because of recurrents and AP isn't the best Pop Smoke song, so I'm not disappointed that it had no longevity here.

Gains
#30: What's Your Country Song - Thomas Rhett (+14) [#30] {12 weeks} *new peak*
#37: Astronaut In The Ocean - Masked Wolf (+12) [#37] {4 weeks} *new peak*
#82: Breaking Up Was Easy In The 90's - Sam Hunt (+10) [#82] {2 weeks} *new peak*
#85: Pick Up Your Feelings - Jazmine Sullivan (+10) [#85] {7 weeks} *new peak*

I'm quite glad that Astronaut In The Ocean and Pick Up Your Feelings are doing well and I really don't care about the other two.

Dropouts
I Hope - Gabby Barrett/Charlie Puth (#24) [#3] {62 weeks}
Bang! - AJR (#35) [#8] {35 weeks}
Lemonade - Internet Money/Gunna/Don Toliver/NAV (#38) [#6] {29 weeks}
Lonely - Justin Bieber/benny blanco (#41) [#12] {20 weeks}
Laugh Now Cry Later - Drake/Lil Durk (#47) [#2] {29 weeks}
Only Wanna Be With You (Pokémon 25 Version) - Post Malone (#74) [#74] {1 week}
hole in the bottle - Kelsea Ballerini (#89) [#39] {20 weeks}
Drunk (And I Don't Wanna Go Home) - Elle King/Miranda Lambert (#90) [#90] {1 week}
Like I Want You - Giveon (#98) [#95] {3 weeks}
BICHOTA - KAROL G (#100) [#72] {13 weeks}

I Hope, Bang!, Lemonade and Laugh Now Cry Later were all good, but they had good runs here, so I'm satisfied. Lonely probably shouldn't have been a hit. It sucks that the two best debuts from last week only lasted a week and it also sucks that hole in the bottle had to flop right as I was getting into it. Like I Want You wasn't good, so I'm not disappointed and BICHOTA was never gonna last after its re-entry last week.

Kwaheri, everybody! See you all in the next one.

Week of March 20, 2021 - Olivia Rodrigo (4)

Hello, everybody! Just one announcement this week and that's the fact that I decided to close submissions for Blogger March Madness tomorrow, so if you haven't submitted yet, you should do it before then. Also, if you need a small extension of time, I can do that for you. This week's Countdown wasn't particularly interesting or particularly good for that matter. But, a countdown is still a countdown, so let's start with this week's lone exit.

*They actually played the original version, but I'm pretty sure it's a mistake, as the Demi Lovato remix was playing all week and later when Spyder Harrison recapped the last five, he mentioned Demi Lovato

Last Year's #1: Adore You - Harry Styles [6/10 weeks at #1]

Countdown Extra: Follow You - Imagine Dragons

Our only debut this week is, to nobody's surprise, Beautiful Mistakes by Maroon 5 featuring Megan Thee Stallion. After Memories and Nobody's Love, I wasn't too excited for this, but seeing that Megan Thee Stallion was featuring, it raised my hopes a little. This song is definitely better than both of the songs that previously mentioned. The song as a whole is more interesting, there's better production and Megan really spices it up. Good song, I hope it does better than Memories... yeah, I'm still not sure how that was as big of a hit as it was.

Biggest DROP!!!: Lasting Lover - Sigala/James Arthur (-7): Aw, it really sucks that this song's dropping, especially right as I was growing back into it.

Biggest Jump: Overdrive - Conan Gray (+9): On the other hand, I'm really happy that this song's in the top 15 and I'd love to see this be a top 5 hit here and I think it has a good chance at that.

#1 Recommendation for Hits 1: This Is Heaven - Nick Jonas

My Favourite Song Last Year: Blinding Lights - The Weeknd

My Least Favourite Song Last Year: everything i wanted - Billie Eilish

Most Missed Countdown Song: I Bet My Life - Imagine Dragons

Hit-Bound
2Drunk - Nick Jonas [2]
Provide - G-Eazy/Chris Brown/Mark Morrison [5]
CHICKEN TENDIES - Clinton Kane [1]
First Time - ILLENIUM/iann dior [1]
Goosebumps (Remix) - Travis Scott/HVME [6]
Too Late - Cash Cash/Wiz Khalifa/Lukas Graham [2]
Remember That Night? - Sara Kays [6]
Good Days - SZA [2; 2nd time]
Follow You - Imagine Dragons [1]
Bad Girl - Daya [4]
Beginning Middle End - Leah Nobel [4]
The Business - Tiësto [4]
Sacrifice - Bebe Rexha [2]
acting like that - YUNGBLUD/Machine Gun Kelly [2]
Calling My Phone - Lil Tjay/6LACK [2]

I've already reviewed this next song on my Hot 100 posts. It's CHICKEN TENDIES by Clinton Kane and honestly, I'm surprised that it wasn't picked up sooner by Hits 1, especially considering Hits 1 discovered Clinton Kane. Anyways, I really like this song, I think it's much better than Fix It to Break It. He sounds better here and the chorus just has more substance to it. This is a great song and I hope it debuts the Countdown.

ILLENIUM scored his first song on Hits 1 a couple of years ago, with Takeaway with The Chainsmokers, which ended up dropping out of Hit-Bound. I think the only reason that he has another song here is because this time, he decided to collaborate with One to Watch alumni iann dior. This actually isn't even iann dior's first EDM song, as he released Higher with Clean Bandit earlier this year and now here he is with First Time. This is a really good song. It's more EDM/Pop-Rock, like what we heard in Come & Go by Juice WRLD and Marshmello from last year. I don't think that this was executed quite as well as that song was, but iann dior sounds good and I think the drop was well-done. Good song.

After two and a half years, Imagine Dragons, my favourite artists by the way, have released new music from an upcoming fifth album. And honestly? This isn't their best comeback ever. The other song that they released is called Cutthroat and if you haven't listened to it, I'll break it down for you. Remember Machine from 2019? So the amount of yelling in that, except turned up to 10 and with a pretty good instrumental. So yeah, it's not great. Anyways, this new one, Follow You was pretty underwhelming at first, especially considering that they tend to come back with more epic songs like Believer or Natural, but with more listens, I've been liking it more and more. The chorus is actually really good and Dan Reynolds sounds good here even if he has some weird vocal effects on his voice in the verses. So yeah, I like this and I'd love to see it become a hit.

Best Debut: Follow You - Imagine Dragons

I Already Did One of These for Beautiful Mistakes and I'm Just Realizing Now That That Wasn't a Very Blurb-iful Mistake

Our sole (did I use that right?) exit for this week was Lifestyle. I never really expected this to do great anywhere, so I'm not too disappointed that it more or less flopped here.

So LILHUDDY has been confirmed to be our next One to Watch and honestly, I think he has the second-best One to Watch song after Let There Be Love by Ananya Birla. Maybe Sara Kays would've been an alright choice for this, but I'm far from disappointed.

Way Less Sad has finally decided to jump, so that's good and I hope that it keeps jumping.

Okay, Fly Away can leave aaaaaaaany time now.

I'm not Pretty actually managed to stay on the Countdown after getting the One to Watch treatment, something that only two other artists have managed to do: Zoe Wees and Ashe.

So somehow Treat People With Kindness dropped this week, but somehow, I have this feeling that this isn't the end of it.

But replacing TPWK is My Head & My Heart and I'm very happy that it managed to make it this high. Fun fact: Every Ava Max song that's debuted the Countdown has made it into the top 10.

you broke me first is a top 5 hit now, I guess. I don't know, this song is starting to get kind of old.

willow is also up to #3 and I can definitely see this hitting #1 sometime soon, which I'd be fine with.

Oh yeah, Hit-Bound Dropouts! This week, we lost Best Friend and slower. I don't really care about either, as I never really liked Best Friend and slower only lasted a week and wasn't fantastic.
