Hot 100 Top 40: Week of December 5, 2020 - BTS (1)

BTS (1)
Hey guys! Billboard recently released their Hot 100 songs of 2020 list, so my Year-End post of that should be out sometime this month. I honestly have no clue how long it's gonna take. My weekly posts are always first priority, though. We had an extremely active week this week. Mostly just because of more Christmas songs moving in. Also, you'll notice that for all of the Christmas songs I have the number of weeks at ?. That should change next week. I just have to figure it out and I haven't found the time yet. Other than the Christmas songs, there were also albums by Megan Thee Stallion, BTS and Morgan Wallen, so you'll see songs from all of those artists on this post. Here's the exits.

Last Year's #1: Circles - Post Malone [2/3 weeks at #1]

So the first returning Christmas song this week is It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year by Andy Williams. Just one thing you should know about me: I get sick of Christmas songs pretty quickly. But this is definitely good for the most part. It's not one of the songs that has a million covers and gets played over and over again. Andy Williams sounds good here and overall, this is just a fun and enjoyable song.

Next is Jingle Bell Rock by Bobby Helms. This version of this song isn't my favourite, but the song as a whole is good. I much prefer it when artists cover it and give it a tiny bit more of a rock vibe, but this is definitely still enjoyable. Yeah, not much else to say here.

So I mentioned earlier that Morgan Wallen released an album, so you'll see the effects of that here, as his newest single from it, Somebody's Problem. I don't like Morgan Wallen that much. This song isn't bad, like More Than My Hometown, but it's not bad. He doesn't sound too good here and the song's kind of forgettable, but it's still not bad.

BTS pop up next and this first song, Stay, is my favourite from the tracks from BE that debuted this week. It's nowhere near as good as songs like Dynamite or Make It Right (featuring Lauv), but it's definitely good. It's got a little bit of EDM vibe here, which I really like. I think the drop was pretty well-done and although their voices aren't great and I understand at all what they're saying, it's still good.

Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree by Brenda Lee is the final Christmas song that re-entered this week. This song gets super annoying super quickly. Last week I would have had it in blue, but this week it's in pink. Nothing about it's bad, it's just kind of annoying.

A couple of really bad songs from albums are next, starting with Blue & Grey by BTS. I'm not sure who thought these guys doing a ballad was a good idea, but it really wasn't. None of them have very good voices and the only reason I liked Dynamite so much was because of how catchy it was. The production here is non-existent and none of them sound good here. Yeah, this is really really bad.

Megan Thee Stallion whyyyyyyyy. This next song is called Body and it's sooooo baaaad. Let me just copy/paste a few lines from the chorus here: "Body-ody-ody-ody-ody-ody-ody-ody/Ody-ody-ody-ody-ody-ody-ody (Mwah)/Body-ody-ody-ody-ody-ody-ody-ody/Ody-ody-ody-ody-ody-ody-ody". She sounds fine in the rest of the song but the production's kind of boring anyways and that chorus is so annoying! Yeah, I really hope this isn't a hit.

I reviewed this song last week, Monster by Justin Bieber and Shawn Mendes. Shawn's album, Wonder is out today and I haven't listened to it, but I definitely expect good things from this track. Both artists sound fantastic here and they blend super well. The production here is kind of pop-rock and I love it. Fantastic song, I hope it's a big hit.

Yeah, so something dethroned Mood this week. It was Life Goes On by BTS and it debuted at #1 this week. None of the guys sound that good here and it's extremely forgettable. I hope it drops a lot in the coming weeks.

Best Debut: Monster - Shawn Mendes/Justin Bieber

Biggest Drop: Watermelon Sugar - Harry Styles (-15): This only dropped so much because of the huge number of entrants, but I don't care that it dropped anyways.

Biggest Jump: All I Want for Christmas Is You - Mariah Carey (+15): Ahhhh, this is gonna hit #1 again isn't it? I really hope it doesn't, because some other songs deserve to be there rather than this.

A bunch of songs left the Top 40 and dropped down to On the Verge this week. Pretty Heart, Happy Anywhere, Better Together, Love You Like I Used To, Starting Over, Forever After All and HOLIDAY. The only two that I'm sad about are Love You Like I Used To and HOLIDAY.

A couple songs also just re-entered On the Verge this week, 7 Summers and Don't Stop, both just due to album releases.

Our first debut is a song by Morgan Wallen, Still Goin Down. He really doesn't sound good here and the song as a whole is super forgettable and the production's really uninteresting.

Our only other debut this week is from Miley Cyrus and Dua Lipa. I talked about this last week and I'm kinda surprised that it didn't debut in the Top 40. Anyways, I don't think there's too much to say about this that I haven't already said. Miley doesn't sound fantastic with the production, but Dua does. That's pretty much the entire song.

Best Debut: Prisoner - Miley Cyrus/Dua Lipa

Literally nothing to talk about this week except for the exits.

Our Top 40 exits were (other than the ones I've already talked about): What You Know Bout Love by Pop Smoke and Drankin N Smokin by Future and Lil Uzi Vert. It sucks that WYKBL isn't doing as well as Pop Smoke's other songs, but it's not as good, so it makes sense. As for Drankin N Smokin, I never expected it to stick around.

As for On the Verge, we lost pov by Ariana Grande, all the Future and Lil Uzi Vert songs, you broke me first by Tate McRae, Mr. Right Now by 21 Savage, Metro Boomin and Drake, Iris by Phoebe Bridgers and Maggie Rogers, FRANCHISE by Travis Scott, Young Thug and M.I.A., my ex's best friend by Machine Gun Kelly and blackbear, Took Her To The O by King Von and B.S. by Jhené Aiko and H.E.R.. The only ones I'm not sad about are Took Her To The O, B.S. and all of the Pluto x Baby Pluto songs.
