Last Year's #1: Heartless - The Weeknd [1/1 week at #1]

So the first Christmas re-entry this week pops up at #40, and it's Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer by Gene Autry. I'm gonna keep these reviews short. It's alright, the Burl Ives version is better, this version's just kind of boring and Gene Autry's voice isn't that great.

(Sigh), it truly is Christmastime when I hear Michael Bublé singing Christmas songs, and I'm really glad that he actually scored a song in the Top 40 this year. It's his version of It's Beginning to Look a Lot like Christmas and this is much better than the original (which pops up later). Michael's voice was just tailor-made for Christmas music and he just works so well with the song. Awesome song, I hope it does pretty well this year and starts consistently reaching the Top 40 every year.

White Christmas by Bing Crosby and co. is next and this song's really boring. It's also kind of really bad quality on Spotify. Yeah, not one of my favourites, that's for sure.

Gene Autry's Here Comes Santa Claus is next and I find this song really annoying, as this is pretty much the only version of the song that radio stations actually play. That being said, it's not bad per se, it's just kind of annoying.

Happy Holiday / The Holiday Season by Andy Williams is next and this is alright. The song itself is pretty good, I just don't think Andy Williams works too well with it.

Fun fact about me: Underneath the Tree by Kelly Clarkson is one of my least favourite Christmas songs of all time. It's just so annoying. It feels like Kelly was trying to make All I Want for Christmas Is You 2.0, but the chorus is actually just really obnoxious. I hate this song.

A Holly Jolly Christmas by Burl Ives is next, and again, this is only decent. Burl sounds fine and all, the production's just kind of non-existent and the song as a whole is a little boring.

Sleigh Ride by The Ronettes is next. There's so many better versions of this song. That's really all I have to say. A pretty enjoyable song, there's just better versions.

Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow! by Dean Martin is next and this one's really enjoyable. Dean Martin does pretty well on this, and it's just a classic. Good song.

Yeah, so Last Christmas by Wham! is one of the best Christmas songs ever written except for possibly Santa Tell Me by Ariana Grande. I think George Michael does a fantastic job with this song and it's just ridiculously catchy and the writing's great. I love this song.

Nat King Cole brings us The Christmas Song next, and although there's one questionable lyric (if you know, you know) this song's still pretty enjoyable. Nat King Cole sounds pretty good and as a whole I just think it's well-produced although slightly boring.

Feliz Navidad by José Feliciano is next and this song is fine. I think José's voice is kind of annoying, but the song isn't bad by any means.

Biggest Drop: Monster - Shawn Mendes/Justin Bieber (-30): Well, the good news is that this song's still here, and it'll probably still be here next week due to Wonder being released, so that's good.

Biggest Jump: It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year - Andy Williams (+25): Awesome. One of the best Christmas songs this could've gone to.

My Top 5 Picks
#5: Last Christmas - Wham!

Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) by Darlene Love is the first On the Verge Christmas song. Whatever. If anything, this song's just extremely forgettable and Darlene doesn't sound great.

It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas (the original; by Perry Como) is next and Bublé does a much better job with this. This version's just kind of boring.

(There's No Place Like) Home for the Holidays by... again, Perry Como is next. Literally nothing interesting to say about this that I haven't said already.

So Bad Bunny released an album this week, and the first song from it is next, and it's called LA NOCHE DE ANOCHE with ROSALÍA. This shares a similar vibe with Hawái, another latino song that's here. So, yeah, I like it. Bad Bunny could sound better, but ROSALÍA sounds quite good in this song. The chorus is quite good and I like the production here. Yeah, great song and I hope it comes back after all the Christmas songs clear out.

TE MUDASTE also by Bad Bunny is last. This is much worse than LA NOCHE DE ANOCHE. Bad Bunny doesn't sound that great and the song's a little boring and forgettable.

Oh yeah, I guess Hawái left the Top 40 and re-entered On the Verge this week. :(

Best Debut: LA NOCHE DE ANOCHE - Bad Bunny/ROSALÍA

Last Blurb-mas I Gave You My Heart

So yeah, here's why I don't like Christmas songs on the Hot 100: Bang! jumped two spots this week. That might seem like a good thing, but it now rests at #27. Here's the issue: Without the Christmas songs, it would be at #17. That's a top 20 AJR song, folks! But no, instead it rests with its peak of #24. This also happened with ROXANNE by Arizona Zervas last year. That song has an official peak on the Hot 100 of #4. However, it should've peaked at #2, but of course, Christmas songs blocked it from doing so. I mean, come on.

Another thing, we lose songs we don't have to. Here's the Top 40 exits this week: One Of Them Girls, WHATS POPPIN, ONE BEER, Watermelon SugarHawái, Said Sum, ily, Lonely, Before You Go, Somebody's Problem, Stay and Blue & Grey. We really didn't have to lose One Of Them Girls, WHATS POPPIN, ONE BEER or Hawái. The others, I'm fine with.

As for On the Verge, we lost Pretty Heart, Still Goin Down, Forever After All, I Should Probably Go To Bed, 7 Summers and Don't Stop. Honestly don't care about any of those songs leaving.

Haha Life Goes On BEEG FLOP.

34+35 actually jumped this week. This is really becoming a hit? Alright, then.

DÁKITI jumped into the top 5, which is good, even if it only jumped because of Bad Bunny's album.

All I Want for Christmas Is You is sitting at a dangerous #2, although I am glad that Mood managed to hold it off for another week.

Hot 100 Exits from Past Top 40/On the Verge Songs
Blue & Grey - BTS (#13) [#13] {1 week}
Stay - BTS (#22) [#22] {1 week}
ONE BEER - HARDY/Lauren Alaina/Devin Dawson (#38) [#33] {25 weeks}
One Of Them Girls - Lee Brice (#40) [#17] {26 weeks}
Pretty Heart - Parker McCollum (#43) [#36] {20 weeks}
Come & Go - Juice WRLD/Marshmello (#60) [#2] {20 weeks}
FRANCHISE - Travis Scott/Young Thug/M.I.A. (#78) [1 week at #1] {9 weeks}
Girls in the Hood - Megan Thee Stallion (#80) [#28] {18 weeks}
Drankin N Smokin - Future/Lil Uzi Vert (#90) [#31] {2 weeks}
Wishing Well - Juice WRLD (#90) [#5] {20 weeks}
Some Girls - Jameson Rodgers (#93) [#29] {16 weeks}
POPSTAR - DJ Khaled/Drake (#96) [#3] {19 weeks}

Just for the ones that I haven't talked about yet, I'm sad that both of the Juice WRLD songs are gone, I'm honestly kind of sad that FRANCHISE wasn't a bigger hit, I didn't care about Some Girls, POPSTAR was whatever and I don't care about the ones that were just there because of albums (Girls in the Hood, Drankin N Smokin).

Kwaheri, everybody! See you all Friday (hopefully)!

  1. I have a proposal, just tell me if this would interest you. For the Hunger Games Countdown, everybody submits what would be their #1 recommendation for Hits 1 at the moment. I then randomly chose somebody's song, and it gets a run in the Hunger Games Countdown. We only choose a new song if it either gets picked up by Hits 1 or if its run ends. Thoughts?

    2. Yes, this would prove itself that he's nearly the same age as Alec Benjamin since both are born in the 90s. At least his vocals are much better than him though.

  6. Somehow, Claire Rosinkranz's Backyard Boy got a remix by adding in Jeremy Zucker's vocals. Does anyone have any thoughts on that?
