Hits 1's Top 30 of 2020 - Harry Styles

Hey guys and welcome to Hits 1's Top 30 of 2020 list! The list this year is super whack. I'm not entirely sure if it was because they shortened it to 30 songs or if it was just Hits 1 being weird, but there were so many songs that deserved to be on this list, but didn't make it. In fact, Kings & Queens was the only song that debuted in the Top 30 to be on this list, which is ridiculous. Yeah, that means that songs like Come & Go, Savage Love, Bang!, Heather, Harry's Falling and Mood. I mean, come ON! All of those songs deserved to be on there (even if I don't like Heather). But whatever, it's still fun to review this every year.

Here's my format for this year.

#30: 10,000 Hours - Dan + Shay/Justin Bieber [#9] {15 weeks}

Wow, it's been a while since I've listened to this song. I honestly kind of forgot that it existed. That being said, it's definitely still a good song. I think Dan + Shay work pretty well with Justin Bieber and the writing's great too. Although, I definitely wouldn't say that this is one of the biggest songs of the year. Whatever, I guess I'm still glad that it's here.

#29: Intentions - Justin Bieber/Quavo [#11] {20 weeks}

Hunh. Back-to-back Justin Bieber. These are the only two Justin Bieber songs on the list too, but I'm definitely really glad that this song snuck in. It's my favourite Justin Bieber song of 2020, mostly just because of the production. There's so much to it and it's honestly just really interesting to listen to. Plus, Justin sounds good here and the song's pretty catchy too. Quavo's verse is a little unnecessary, but that being said, he doesn't bring the song down at all either.

#28: How Do You Sleep? - Sam Smith [#12] {15 weeks}

This is the most confusing song on the list out of all of them. How did this song do better on the Countdown than Come & Go, Falling and Monsters, which all hit #1 in 2020? I'm pretty sure in my Ultimate Rank, there's something like 50 songs that outperformed it. But whatever, this is still definitely a good song. Sam Smith sounds pretty good here and this is probably one of my favourite songs from them from the past couple of years. They work pretty well with the beat and the drop is decent. That last chorus especially is pretty good. Overall, this is just a really good song and I'm glad it's here, even if it makes no sense.

#27: Supalonely - BENEE/Gus Dapperton [#8] {23 weeks}

This was one of my least favourite hits of the year. I kind of get the appeal of this, the production's pretty groovy, but I just find this song super annoying. BENEE doesn't sound great, here voice has some pretty heavy autotune and don't even get me started on Gus Dapperton. He just sounds absolutely terrible on this song. Plus, I don't really like the "LALALALA" part in the chorus. Other than that, it's fine and I understand why people would like this, but I don't think it should've been as big of a hit as it was.

#26: hot girl bummer - blackbear [#4] {19 weeks}

This was one of the best songs of the year (as seen on my best songs of the year post). This was the start of Hits 1's stanning of blackbear and I'm honestly not sad about that. He's a pretty good artist and I like pretty much everything Hits 1's picked up of his so far. This is probably the best though, even if Monsters is pretty close to this. This song's honestly just lots and lots of fun. blackbear works super well with the song and although the pitch-shifting thing is weird, it somehow works really well with this song. I wish that this was released while Hits 1 was really in love with blackbear and I wish that it hit #1 for a few weeks. Still a great song though. But it should've been higher than his other song on the list.

#25: Level of Concern - Twenty One Pilots [#7] {13 weeks}

Gonna be honest here, this is one of the most forgettable songs of the year. I definitely forgot that this existed before they played it on this list. All that being said, this is still a really great song. Tyler Joseph sounds pretty good here and the production's honestly pretty solid. It's definitely not TOP's best, Heathens, The Hype and Stressed Out are all better, but this is good. This was definitely enjoyable while it was here even if I won't remember it in a couple years, or maybe even a couple months.

#24: What A Man Gotta Do - Jonas Brothers [#2] {17 weeks}

I totally forgot that this song peaked at #2. It really doesn't feel like it was that big this year, but whatever, like How Do You Sleep?, I'm still glad that it's here. All of the Jonas Brothers sound great here and this song is just a ton of fun. The chorus is very catchy and the production's really fun too. I'm really glad that this song did well on the Countdown and I'm happy that it's here.

#23: ROXANNE - Arizona Zervas [#9] {21 weeks}

Hits 1's still playing this somewhat regularly today and I'm definitely glad that Hits 1 let this onto the Countdown, let alone let it get to the top 10. I've already explained why I love this song in my Top 45 Songs of 2020 post and all of the reasons remain the same. Arizona Zervas sounds pretty great and the autotune doesn't take away from the song at all. On top of that, the song's super catchy and a lot of fun. The production also fits really well here. Overall, everything about this song just came together pretty well and it ultimately made just a really great and fun song.

#22: Kings & Queens - Ava Max [#2] {20 weeks}

Yeah, so this was the only song to debut when the Countdown was Top 30 to make this list. While I'm sad that it wasn't Bang! or Come & Go, this definitely isn't the worst song it could've been (Silently glares at Heather). This song was lots of fun while it was still new and although it's definitely faded on me mostly due to overplay as it started to get popular elsewhere in the world, I still find this song enjoyable. Ava sounds great, the writing's awesome and the layering in the chorus sounds pretty good too. I'm glad that this was a big hit.

#21: If the World Was Ending - JP Saxe/Julia Michaels [#10] {17 weeks}

Yeah, so this song did alright on the Countdown, but left kind of early just a couple of weeks into the shortening of the Countdown, then randomly re-entered one week in September then left the very next week. Not sure why, it was kind of weird. But anyways, I still enjoyed this song, even if my first impression of it doesn't necessarily hold up. I still think that JP Saxe and Julia Michaels sound pretty good and have some really great chemistry here and the writing in this song is good (even though it became popular at an awkward time). However, the reason I don't love it anymore is because it admittedly gets kind of boring when you've heard it a lot. This definitely isn't a song I'm going to remember for a long time, but it was definitely still good and overly hated, in my opinion.

#20: Maniac - Conan Gray [#2] {16 weeks}

Boy, am I glad that this was our first impression of Conan Gray and not Heather. This song was actually incredibly enjoyable and was overlooked by many mainstream radio stations for no apparent reason. It had kind of a funny run on Hits 1, as it was switching between being at #2 and #10 for weeks on end. Not sure why, but it was definitely amusing. Anyways, Conan Gray sounds pretty great here and although there's not too much to the melody, it's still enjoyable. This was a lot of fun while it was here. Good song.

#19: Midnight - Alesso/Liam Payne [1 week at #1] {20 weeks}

Welcome to another episode of "Hits 1 lets a One Direction member get a #1 song for no other reason than the fact that they were a One Direction member". Yeah, unfortunately there's five more episodes of this (Four, if you're not counting Watermelon Sugar, because that was actually a pretty big hit). This song was good, but it definitely shouldn't have done as well as it did on here. I think Alesso's production was good and Liam Payne also sounded good, but it was way too generic to actually be too interesting.

#18: me & ur ghost - blackbear [#2] {22 weeks}

This should not have re-entered. They gave it pretty much exactly the right amount of success after it left the first time. But then, for some reason, a couple of months after it had lost all of its traction, it re-entered the Countdown all the way up at #5. Then proceeded to hit #2 and was only blocked by... Watermelon Sugar, I think? Nope. Moral of the Story. Never mind, this should've hit #1. Haha but in all seriousness, this was still an enjoyable song even if it wasn't as good as hot girl bummer, queen of broken hearts, my ex's best friend or Monsters. blackbear always sounds good and that's definitely no exception here. The only issue is that it's not all too interesting and kind of fades into the background a lot. Other than that, good song though.

#17: Graveyard - Halsey [#6] {21 weeks}

I'm honestly pretty sad that You should be sad wasn't the Halsey song to make this list. I would've also been fine with Be Kind. Anyways, this song definitely isn't bad by any means, it's just honestly not that interesting or memorable. Halsey sounds good here and the production's... fine, I guess. There's honestly not much to talk about this one. (Oh yeah, also fun fact: After On-Demand Hit-Bound, this was always the song to play after it finished, which got really annoying).

#16: Old Me - 5 Seconds of Summer [1 week at #1] {22 weeks}

Oh yeah haha CALM exists. This is probably the most forgettable single from that album although none of them were too memorable. Wildflower is pretty forgettable and Easier isn't too memorable either. The only one that's kind of memorable is Teeth. Anyways, this is also the worst single from CALM. It was overplayed to death on Hits 1 and definitely shouldn't have hit #1 on Hits 1. It got really annoying really quickly and I still find it pretty annoying.

#15: Good as Hell - Lizzo [#7] {18 weeks}

So this song is spending its second year on the Year-End list and is the first of two songs to do this this year. I'm honestly quite surprised that this made it, but I'm also really happy that it's here, as it's really good. This is easily the best Lizzo song I've heard. She sounds great here and it's not in the least bit annoying, especially compared to songs like Truth Hurts and Cuz I Love You. I'm glad that this is here.

#14: My Oh My - Camila Cabello [#5] {19 weeks}

Ayyy, this was a fun song. Camila sounds really good here and the hook is honestly just pretty inventive and fun. Especially the background vocals that go "My oh myyyyyy". I'm really sad that this didn't come out after Hits 1 warmed to rap music though, because then we would've gotten DaBaby's verse on here and that makes it infinitely better. But whatever, it's still a good song without him even though he adds a lot to the song.

#13: Break My Heart - Dua Lipa [#2] {17 weeks}

Yeah, this song was pretty fun when it was here too. I already talked about this song on my best list, so there's not much that I have to say here that I haven't said already. Cool, groovy bassline and Dua sounds great. Even though I got a little tired of it, I still like it and I have a feeling I'm going to really love it again in a few more months.

#12: Moral of the Story - Ashe/Niall Horan [6 weeks at #1] {24 weeks}

Oh thank goodness, this is much lower than I expected it to be. I feel like I've explained why I really hate this song so much too many times, but this is probably one of the last times that I'll have to, so I'll do it. The original version of this song was alright although a bit boring, but then Niall Horan decided to remix it and he made it worse while also making it do terrifically on the Weekend Countdown and hitting #1 for six weeks in a row. It was just kind of ridiculous and really didn't need to happen.

#11: No Judgement - Niall Horan [1 week at #1] {21 weeks}

Even though this is so much better than Moral of the Story, it's still not a very interesting song. It's not bad, there's just little to no substance to it. The production's kind of boring and although Niall sounds pretty good here, he doesn't sound good enough to move it up to further than a pink. Oh yeah and again, this shouldn't have hit #1, even though it was only for a week. There's absolutely no way I'm going to remember that this song exists in a year or two.

#10: Teeth - 5 Seconds of Summer [#2] {21 weeks}

Haha I mentioned earlier that this was the most memorable song from CALM, yet I forgot that it was higher on this list. That being said, this is a great song and it definitely deserved to be here after missing out on the list last year, despite hitting #1 for a couple weeks. I liked the more rock-sounding vibe on this song and I think it fit really well with 5SOS. Both of the guys here sound pretty good and I really like the instrumentation here. I'm glad that this is here.

#9: Only Human - Jonas Brothers [#2] {20 weeks}

I completely forgot that this song stayed for as long as it did on the Countdown this year. In fact, it was actually one of the last songs to drop out of the Countdown before they shortened it. I'm pretty sure this and everything i wanted might have been the last two. This song's alright. It's fun to revisit sometimes, but it's not really something that I find myself constantly coming back to. It was much better than Cool, which already made it a pretty good song, but it's still not as good as Sucker. This song definitely isn't bad though, the guys sound good here and the production's cool. This song's also really catchy. I'm happy that this was a hit, even if I'm gonna forget about it in a couple more years.

#8: Blinding Lights - The Weeknd [6 weeks at #1] {20 weeks}

Yeah, okay, I'm satisfied with where this ended up on the list. It's not quite as high as I would've liked, there's definitely songs above it that shouldn't be above it, but for my favourite song of the year, #8 is a really good ranking. This actually surprisingly managed to hit #1 for six weeks on the Weekend Countdown, which just proves how big of a hit this was, because Hits 1 are by no means The Weeknd stans. I've explained countless times why I love this song and here we go again I guess. Abel sounds fantastic here, the song is catchy beyond belief and the 80s-synth vibe is executed to perfection. Great song, I'm so happy with its amount of success.

#7: Watermelon Sugar - Harry Styles [7 weeks at #1] {26 weeks}

Wow, I expected this song to be much higher on this list, especially considering how much Hits 1 loves Harry Styles. This was easily the best Harry Styles single of this year and it definitely deserved to actually be a pretty big hit here and everywhere else. It had a pretty weird run here, as it debuted back in November of 2019, then stayed in Hit-Bound for a really long time before re-entering and finally staying. The production here is great and Harry sounds pretty good too. I like this song and I'm glad that it exists.

#6: Say So - Doja Cat [#3] {23 weeks}

Yeah, so this one grew on me a little bit. I definitely don't hate it nearly as much as I did when it was big. I can definitely see the appeal now, it's extremely groovy and Doja Cat actually doesn't sound that bad, but it's still extremely annoying. I just get kind of annoyed whenever it comes on the radio, because for one, it was overplayed and I never really liked it anyways. The Nicki Minaj remix is still terrible though.

#5: Don't Start Now - Dua Lipa [#2] {21 weeks}

This ended up ranking pretty well on this list and I'd say that that makes up for it not hitting #1 (or maybe I'm just saying that because she's finally gotten a #1 with Levitating). This was a great song, but it definitely wasn't the best single from Future Nostalgia. It's still super fun though and I don't think overplay really killed it that much, even though it was played a ton when it was super popular. Dua sounds good here, the production is fun and the song's super catchy too. Great song, I'm happy that it ended up this high.

#4: Before You Go - Lewis Capaldi [1 week at #1] {37 weeks}

Wow, I honestly thought that this would be #1 of the year considering how long it stayed on the Countdown for. I'm honestly pretty disappointed that it wasn't, especially considering which song took the #1 spot. Anyways, I definitely like this song less than I did at the very start, but that's not saying that I don't still like it a lot. I think LewCap sounds good here and the production's more interesting than in Someone You Loved and it keeps it interesting and fresh. Good song, I'm glad that it was a hit.

#3: Nice To Meet Ya - Niall Horan [4 weeks at #1] {21 weeks}

I explained in my Top 45 Songs of 2020 post why I love this song so much. The instrumentation here is great, Niall sounds pretty great too and there's just so much energy in this song that it's practically impossible to not like it. I'm very satisfied with the amount of success that it got here and I wish it got more success outside of Hits 1.

#2: Circles - Post Malone [2 weeks at #1] {21 weeks}

Man, if I could put this higher up on my best list of 2019, I definitely would. It deserved to be much higher than I put it. I really love this song; everything about it just works super well. Post Malone sounds fantastic, as he normally does, and the instrumentation here also works really well with his voice. The main part that's really good though is the chorus. It's so catchy that I feel like it'll still get stuck in my head from time to time in a few years from now. I love this song and I'm so glad that it managed to snag a couple of weeks at #1 here.

#1: Adore You - Harry Styles [10 weeks at #1] {21 weeks}

Hunh. Four out of the top 5 songs spent exactly 21 weeks on the Countdown in 2020. Interesting. Anyways, yeah, I'm really disappointed that this song's the #1 of the year and I hoped that with its quick exit from the Countdown it wouldn't have racked up enough points to be the #1, but alas. I really can't stand this song. Harry honestly doesn't sound very good here, the production's extremely uninteresting and the song as a whole is just very very boring. I really wish that this wasn't such a big hit here.

Well, I have a few things to talk about here. First of all, we finally got our 10K Pageview Special out, which is amazing! In case you didn’t know, the 2020 Ultimate Rank will be put on hold until we catch up on the Pageview Specials. Secondly, our countdown post from last week is now officially the #2 most viewed post ever on this blog, which is amazing! It’s our first post to pass 300 views since December! Last Year’s #1: Sucker - Jonas Brothers [4/13 weeks at #1]

Countdown Extra: Six Feet Apart - Alec Benjamin

The Black Eyed Peas get their first song on the countdown since 2011, with J Balvin this week. RITMO debuted at #39, and this is one of my favourite songs on the countdown right now. I find the Rhythm of the Night sample fits really well with the song, and even though spanish Black Eyed Peas is a bit of an odd concept, I think it works pretty well. This song is really catchy, and I could see it doing well here, except for the odd fact that it’s still not on the voting poll. Not sure what that’s about, but I’m hopeful that it can do well nonetheless.

This next song grew on me quite a bit since it debuted on Hit-Bound last week. Twenty One Pilots’ new song Level of Concern is actually pretty solid. It’s definitely not as good as the Trench singles, but it’s still extremely catchy, and fairly good. I’d be okay with seeing this do well, and since it is getting some success out of Hits 1, I can see it doing pretty well. *0 weeks in Hit-Bound, 1 week on Voting Poll

Best Debut: RITMO - Black Eyed Peas/J Balvin

Biggest DROP!!!: Circles - Post Malone (-16): I’m pretty happy with how this song did. It still remains an amazing song, but it’s time was probably up anyways, so I’m fine with it dropping.

Biggest Jump: Watermelon Sugar - Harry Styles (+23): Excuse me? This song isn’t getting any more traction anywhere! Why the heck is it almost in the top 10 here? It makes no sense!

I have no clue why Oh My God is still here since we got Six Feet Apart.

Replacing To Die For this week, we have I’m Ready by Sam Smith and Demi Lovato. This song is honestly pretty great. The production in the verses is really cool, and if Sam Smith were ever to go another way, I feel like this would be a good idea. Their voice sounds really good with this style. But then, the chorus goes full Sam, and despite it being a bit of a sloppy transition, I still like it. Both Demi and Sam sound really good together, and I can for sure see this debuting soon.

This next song is so much more different than Stack It Up that it’s hard to believe it’s still Liam Payne. But Midnight with Alesso is nothing short of a masterpiece. The chorus is literally breathtaking. Liam just sounds so good, and this is easily the best song he’s done so far. Alesso’s drop is pretty well-done, and overall, I think his production is just really good. This will probably do really well here, since Hits 1 stans One Direction members, and I’m absolutely fine with that. The bridge is also really well done and is a great build-up to the last chorus.

So if you guys don’t know, I actually don’t like Selena Gomez. It turns out Lose You To Love Me was just a fluke, because I really don’t like Boyfriend at all. The production is really weird and doesn’t compliment her voice whatsoever. It feels incomplete, and when she says “boyfriend” it makes me feel really uncomfortable for some reason. Especially in the end, when she’s whispering on top of it. Yeah, I’d really prefer if this didn’t become a hit.

This Is the Rhythm of the Blurbs

The Box has literally been stuck in my head for the past two weeks, and I really want Hits 1 to pick it up so I can listen to it more.

Anyways, we lost two songs this week, How Do You Sleep? and 10,000 Hours. Both songs were fairly old, and well past their run here, so I’m pretty glad they’re both gone, because they were just taking up space.

We also lost three Hit-Bound songs this week, Know Your Worth, To Die For and P.S. I Hope You’re Happy. Know Your Worth was really good, and I’m sad it didn’t get the recognition it deserved. I’m Ready’s better than To Die For, so I’m not too sad about that one, and PSIHYH was never really a single, so I don’t really care that it’s gone.

Our losses this week are: Dance Monkey, Heartless, Only Human, Modern Loneliness, Teeth, Nice To Meet Ya and hot girl bummer. For Dance Monkey, I’m really sad that it didn’t do well here, and I wish it had a better run. For Modern Loneliness and hot girl bummer, I like them both a lot, but I can see them coming back in the near future. I never really caught on to Heartless, so I’m not too upset to see it going. And for Only Human, Nice To Meet Ya and Teeth, they were all old, so I’m really glad to see them dropping finally.

Our gains this week are: The Other Side, Moral of the Story, Intentions, Maniac and You should be sad. I really like all of these songs, but the ones I’m most happy about are The Other Side, Intentions and Maniac.

Someone You Loved has officially been on the countdown for a year now. Although this song is long overdue its run, I’m glad it was this and not any other song. Also fun fact: this song debuted lower than Out Of Love and So Close. Yeah.

Easier has been on the countdown for way too long now, and has to leave soon or else I’m really gonna hate it.

Why is Sunday Best jumping so slowly? It’s actually becoming a really big hit, and I’d love to see this do well here.

the other girl needs to start jumping up a bit higher soon.

Yeah, I’ve kind of lost interest in If the World Was Ending. It feels kind of boring at times, and I’ve learned to realize that JP’s voice isn’t that great.

No Judgement comes into the top 10 this week, and despite this not really being a hit, I honestly don’t care at this point.

Listen, I know Blinding Lights isn’t my #1 anymore. It’s not because I don’t love it anymore, it’s really not. It’s just that it’s been on the countdown for a while, and I decided to give another song a shot.

That song being The Other Side. I’ve actually been really enjoying this song lately, and it sucks that it’s not higher.

Okay, why in the holy name of heck is Adore You still #1? Blinding Lights clearly has more traction than it, and it for sure deserves to be #1. Adore You doesn’t even deserve one week, much less ten.

Okay, first of all, why did Break My Heart not debut? It’s getting so much momentum, and got a lot of airplay, and it’s a really good song! Why the not debuting?

No new actual Hit-Bound songs this week, just voting poll songs, starting off with a new Twenty One Pilots song, called Level of Concern, and if I’m being totally honest right now, I don’t really like this all that much. I mean, it’s alright, I guess, but nothing really stuck with me. I don’t love his voice here, I don’t love the production here, and I don’t love the chorus here. Overall, it’s just not great, and I can for sure see this going to red. Yeah, this just feels kind of empty compared to the singles from Trench.

Dang, this next one I really really actually like. It’s CITY OF ANGELS by 24kGoldn. I’m gonna be honest here, I love his voice here. It’s legit addicting. That little edge in it literally is the best thing ever. The guitar in this is really great, and it’s one of the most catchy things I’ve heard in a while. If this debuts, it’s hands-down going on my year-end list.

Hey, a good Alec Benjamin song! This is a better version of If We Have Each Other, and if this could replace Oh My God, that would be much appreciated. I’m not quite sure why people are calling it the worst Alec Benjamin song ever. I mean, it’s not bad. The post-chorus feels a little unnecessary, but other than that, this is an extremely solid song, and I can see myself liking it a lot. Although, I don’t think this is made for radio, so it might not do well here.

Oh, also Know Your Worth got taken off of the voting poll, which seems weird since it’s actually charting. But whatever.

Also also, To Die For and P.S. I Hope You’re Happy were taken off of Hit-Bound, probably to debut next week. I’m pretty happy about the former, and decently happy about the latter.

We lost Memories… again. It seemed super pointless for Hits 1 to put it back on the countdown, especially since it was only there for one week. Also, the song is trash, so good riddance.

Our losses this week are: Good As Hell and death bed. Good As Hell was decent, but was getting close to the end of its run anyways, and death bed shouldn’t have jumped last week, so this is much appreciated.

Our gains this week are: Moral of the Story, the other girl, Maniac and Before You Go. I like all of these songs, so it’s nice to see them in their respective spots.

A real conversation at Hits 1 headquarters

Why is Intentions not jumping? NONE OF THIS MAKES ANY SENSE!!! (Which is why I made a new weekly post called “If the Countdown Made Sense”. Be sure to check it out if you haven’t already.)

Glad to see Teeth out of the top 5. It lasted much longer than it should have.

Why did Blinding Lights drop? I mean, it’s only one spot, but still… why?

Okay, I’m about to go on a rant about Adore You right now, so if you don’t want to be emotionally scarred, turn away now. You good? Okay, here we go…

WHY is Adore You STILL #1? It’s completely and UTTERLY IRRELEVANT and doesn’t deserve to be ANYWHERE near #1!!! It’s a complete MESS of a song, and it should NOT be getting all the way up here JUST because of airplay. What’s worse, is that I can see it getting even MORE weeks at #1, because it’s actually starting to get momentum on the Hot 100! Are you KIDDING me? So now, at this point, I can see it BREAKING Sucker’s record for the most weeks at #1, simply because they let it go to the top too quickly and failed to notice other songs that are MUCH better, such as Blinding Lights or even What A Man Gotta Do. I hate Adore You, and if it stays at #1 for ONE MORE WEEK, I’m going on Blogger’s Strike. Rant over.

Oh boy, do we have a countdown for you. This countdown essentially just took all logic… and did the exact opposite. For some reason, we got a re-entry up at #44 which I am not happy about, our entrants overall are pretty bad, and Watermelon Sugar continuing the weirdest run ever on the countdown. Our Hit-Bound entrants/Voting Poll entrants are pretty good, so that’s great, but other than that, this is probably the weirdest and most unpredictable countdown I’ve ever seen. Countdown Extra: To Die For - Sam Smith

So our first entrant, at #44, (which is the lowest entrant I’ve ever seen) Memories by Maroon 5 comes back for no apparent reason. I’m pretty sure I’ve made it pretty clear why I don’t like this anymore, and I think it’s pretty obvious as a whole as to why anybody doesn’t like this. And the fact that it’s back, even though it’ll probably only be on the countdown for like two more weeks, just makes me mad, because it’s taking up space. This can leave again please, and I really hope the re-entry doesn’t become a huge trend, because this is showing that even songs that are off the voting poll can come back. Which isn’t a great sign for the future.

Our first debut, at #37, is no doubt, the worst song on the countdown. It’s Supalonely by BENEE and Gus Dapperton, and I really hate this song. Like, I wouldn’t be surprised if this became my #1 worst song of the year. The only decent thing about this is the production I guess. Other than that, BENEE’s voice is heavily autotuned, to the point where she doesn’t sound good at all. Unfortunately, Gus uses even less autotune, because his voice is horrible. I really hope this doesn’t become a hit at all, even though I foresee it becoming another Say So. *1 week on Hit-Bound, 2 weeks on Voting Poll

Our only decent entrant this week comes from 5 Seconds of Summer, and it’s called Old Me. It’s okay, I guess. It doesn’t have much substance to it, and it can get pretty boring. It’s for sure not as good as some of 5SOS’ other music, but it’s still decent, I guess. Overall, it kind of feels like filler, but it’s much better than our other two entrants. *5 weeks in Hit-Bound, 6 weeks on Voting Poll

We got four kind-of Hit-Bound debuts, and five Hit-Bound entrants. Kicking it off with another Dua Lipa song from her album which was released early, called Future Nostalgia, replacing Physical, it’s Break My Heart. And DANG this song is groovy. It’s probably my favourite single so far, and it’s really good in almost every way. The production is absolutely amazing, and she sounds really good in this. Love to see this debut soon.

Next up… Watermelon Sugar. Again. Because for some reason, Hits 1 just refuses to give up on this song. This is its third time on Hit-Bound, and it can please leave now. This is the weirdest thing to ever happen on Hits 1, and I wish it would stop. Although I do still like the song, it’s already lost all its traction, and it’s time it should be given up. You guys know my opinion on it, but it's getting annoying, so it's going in pink, thus becoming the second song to be in pink and in Hit-Bound, after maybe, i'm afraid by lovelytheband.

Our first song only available for vote is Ride It by Regard. Apparently, this was sampled from a song of the same name, by Jay Sean, I think? (I hope that’s right) And this isn’t great. The production is okay I guess, but the vocals are pitched weirdly, and they always cut into each other. Like, the words are way too rushed to understand what he’s saying. Other than that, it’s fine, I guess. But it’s a little odd.

This is probably the first time Hits 1 has picked up on a Drake song right away, but I’m kind of happy, because Toosie Slide is pretty good. I wish they’d pick up on The Box, but this is fine. I’m not quite sure what “toosie” means, but whatever. Drake actually doesn’t sound bad here, and the chorus is actually pretty catchy. So yeah, I’d be fine if this debuted next week, which I think it will.

Next up, a song heard first on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, through a Skype (?) call. (watch it if you haven’t) This song is called Lay Your Head On Me by Major Lazer and Marcus Mumford, who is the lead singer of Mumford & Sons. This song’s pretty good. It’s not quite what I expected production-wise, but it’s still solid and I like it quite a bit. Good song, hope it debuts.

Supa-blurb-y

We lost three songs, Rare, Watermelon Sugar and Demons. Rare was really boring, and way too minimalistic. I already talked about Watermelon Sugar, and Demons was also just extremely boring.

Our gains this week are as followed: the other girl, I Love Me, Maniac and No Judgement. I really like the other girl and Maniac, so I’m very happy they’re jumping. I like I Love Me, so that’s good, and No Judgement’s okay, but I didn’t expect it to hit #11.

Our losses this week are as followed: Dance Monkey, Only Human and South of the Border. I like Dance Monkey a lot, but it’ll probably jump back up next week. Only Human was getting old, so I’m happy it’s jumping, and South of the Border left too soon in my opinion.

Okay, for some reason, the two debuts from last week that are actually getting traction, Sunday Best and The Other Side, both dropped a spot. Why? Hits 1 logic.

Modern Loneliness is getting close to the top 20, and I’d love for that to happen.

ROXANNE is dropping, and I’m sad.

I'm not liking My Oh My that much anymore.

Even though Blinding Lights is in the top 5, it’s still not #1. So I’m not quite satisfied.

Our #1 though, is still Adore You, which just absolutely needs to leave right now.

Countdown Extra: Know Your Worth - Khalid/Disclosure

Kicking it off with our first debut, we have death bed by Powfu and beabadoobee. I’m really conflicted on this one. I don’t mind Powfu’s rapping and everything, the song’s catchy enough, but beabadoobee’s TWO LINES that run throughout the ENTIRE SONG are really really annoying. So yeah, I’m not sure about this one.

Next up we have a better debut by the name of Moral of the Story by Ashe. This girl gives off almost a Billie Eilish vibe, except that she’s a bit louder which is very nice actually. The song’s pretty catchy too, and I love the chorus here. Easily one of the best debuts this week.

At #36, spending only one week on the voting poll, we have the other girl by Kelsea Ballerini and Halsey. This song is actually a lot better than I thought it would be. Both Kelsea and Halsey’s voices actually go really well together, although at times it does feel like Halsey is way more produced than Kelsea. This song is very very catchy though. Will this do well? Yeah, it’ll probably hit #1, and I’ll be fine with that.

Two spots up from that, we have Sunday Best by Surfaces. Honestly, I did a full 181 on this song. I used to hate it, but this song is way too catchy and fun to hate. Although I don’t love his voice, it’s kind of grown on me like Tones And I’s did, and has become a lot more tolerable. The chorus is really good, and the lyrics are extremely feel-good. I love this song.

From Trolls: World Tour, (which is apparently coming out on digital instead of theatres because you know why), we get The Other Side by SZA and Justin Timberlake. Will this be as big as CAN’T STOP THE FEELING!? No, I don’t think so, but that’s okay. I like that they didn’t go for the incredibly pop-ish thing again, and went for a more groovy R&B vibe. Which I appreciate a lot. Both artists do really well here, and I like how SZA is credited first. I’d be fine if this did well.

And having a super-weird run, that I think might start happening more often because Falling is on Hit-Bound again, we have Watermelon Sugar by Harry Styles returning for its third non-consecutive week. I’m not sure this’ll do well though. I have a feeling it’s gonna have a similar run to Take What You Want, as it’s already lost all traction. But that being said, I’m glad it’s racking up some points for the 2020 Ultimate Rank, and I’m glad to see it back here. For the review, you guys know I like it. It’s got some really great production, and Harry does a much better job vocally here than Adore You, which needs to leave #1 right now.

I guess it’s not done yet. Which is a shame, because I don’t really like this song. I don’t like his voice, but other than that I guess it’s okay. But yeah, this isn’t for me, although it’ll probably re-enter next week.

Moral of the Blurb-y

We lost six songs this week, which is actually a lot compared to the usual three or four. We lost as follows: Make You Mine, Don’t Let It Break Your Heart, Memories, Falling, Cuz I Love You and Take What You Want. For both DLIBYH and TWYW, they both didn’t last very long (the former only lasting one week) and I really liked both of them. Although DLIBYH is still on the voting poll, I can’t see it lasting very long there. Make You Mine was about five years old, so goodbye (although it was pretty good and has a decent shot at making my top 45 songs of 2020) Memories was really starting to get on my nerves, to the point where if it did last another week, it for sure would’ve been in orange. Cuz I Love You was just not great, so good riddance, and Falling I’ve already talked about, as it’s up for re-entry (which might be a common theme this year)

Our losses this week consisted of Easier, and that’s it. Despite it being very old and me being happy it’s going, there are definitely some other old songs that also deserve to be losses, such as Only Human and Teeth.

Our only gain this week is Blinding Lights. YAY!!! We’re in the top 6, and checking out that top 5 right there. If this could PLEASE hit #1 soon, that would be much appreciated!

Dance Monkey needs to pick whether it wants to be a hit or not. It can’t just be jamming in the 30-21 range. Although I mean… that is decent points, so y’know what, I’m fine with it.

Demons dropped out of the top 20 this week and I’m happy about that. Hits 1 needs to stop picking up these mediocre Alec Benjamin songs.

me & ur ghost is in the top 20 now I guess. It’s pretty good, but I don’t really see it being a huge hit.

I’ve kind of lost interest in Stupid Love, and if you ask me, I don’t think this is gonna be a hit at all.
