Week of January 23, 2021 - All Time Low/Demi Lovato/blackbear (4)

All Time Low/Demi Lovato/blackbear (4)
Hey guys, not too much happened this week. I got my Top 45 Songs of 2020 post out this week and I have some pretty big news too: I’ve opened my second rankdown ever, the 2020 Countdown Extras Rankdown! It’s a really random list of songs and it’s gonna be super fun, so I highly suggest that you do this. So far, we have three participants and I’m aiming for six, so if you want to do it, make sure you get it in now, because you don’t have too much time to do it, but I’m still fairly flexible if you need a small extension to submit your list. Check out the tab above if you want to join!

Countdown Extra: Girls Like Us - Zoe Wees

Gonna be honest, I never expected this song to debut. But here it is, our only debut of the week at #30, Goodbye by Shaylen. I’m pretty happy that this debuted though, it’s a fun little song. There’s nothing too special about it, it’s just a few verses with a chorus that’s actually a cover of an old song (I Try by Macy Gray) but it’s honestly just good. Shaylen sounds pretty good here, she does a good job with the cover, in fact, better than the original and the production’s pretty good too. I’d love to see this become a hit, even though it’s probably not going to. But you never know, I mean, Bang!’s at #8 on the Hot 100, so anything can happen.

Biggest DROP!!!: Monster - Shawn Mendes/Justin Bieber (-14): Aw man, I thought that with Hits 1 really loving Shawn Mendes, they would let this go pretty high, but unfortunately, it’s falling with its decline in pop radio. Sucks, it’s a good song.

Biggest Jump: Save Your Tears - The Weeknd, HOLIDAY - Lil Nas X & willow - Taylor Swift (+5): Hey! That’s awesome! I've really grown into Save Your Tears lately and I'm not sure why I didn't love it before. They let HOLIDAY into the top 15, which is fantastic, I honestly expected them to just make it flop and willow’s in the top 10! Cool, I’d love to see it make the top 5.

#1 Recommendation for Hits 1: Break My Heart - JC Stewart

My Favourite Song Last Year: Circles - Post Malone

My Least Favourite Song Last Year: Say So - Doja Cat

Most Missed Countdown Song: Take What You Want - Post Malone/Ozzy Osbourne/Travis Scott

Hit-Bound
Overwhelmed - Royal & the Serpent [2; 2nd time]

What You Know Bout Love - Pop Smoke [1; 2nd time]
My Head & My Heart - Ava Max [2]
SO DONE - The Kid LAROI [7]
Space Girl - Frances Forever [2]
Fix It to Break It - Clinton Kane [10]
Fly Away - Tones And I [10]
Heat Waves - Glass Animals [2]
Body - Megan Thee Stallion [6]
Stay Next To Me - Quinn XCII/Chelsea Cutler [6]
Girls Like Us - Zoe Wees [1]
One Whole Day - Dixie D’Amelio/Wiz Khalifa [7]
WITHOUT YOU - The Kid LAROI [2]
Deep End - Fousheé [7]

So there was only one Hit-Bound debut this week, but our only Countdown exit, What You Know Bout Love re-entered Hit-Bound this week. I’m sad that it’s not on the Countdown any more, but at least it’s not gone for good.

So Zoe Wees now becomes the first One to Watch to score a song on Hits 1 after their One to Watch song. She brings Girls Like Us this week and it’s definitely better than Control. Her voice still isn’t fantastic, but the song’s a little more interesting, which is great. The production actually evolves somewhat and the chorus is decent. It’s definitely a forgettable song though, so we’ll see if this manages to debut.

My Blurb Crumbles When You Are Not Here

So we lost two Hit-Bound songs this week: Bitter and Broke Boy. Both of these songs were great and had absolutely no reason to drop out of Hit-Bound. Bitter got pretty close to debuting and I really wish that it did, because it was great, but Broke Boy was fantastic and Hits 1 didn’t even really give it a chance. Too bad to see both of these go.

Of course Go Crazy drops after it re-enters (facepalm).

Well, Treat People With Kindness jumped less than I thought it would this week. As much as I like this song, I still don’t really want to see it go to #1.

Speaking of #1s, Wonder is finally starting to leave, which is kind of overdue as it lost pretty much all of its traction a month or two ago.

Prisoner’s in the top 10 now, I guess. I honestly don’t really care at all about this song’s run and I feel like it’s just taking up space in the top 10 for better songs like Holy or HOLIDAY.

Diamonds is at #6? Sure, I guess, even though I don’t like this nearly as much as I did when it was first released.

Well, guys, there goes Levitating’s shot at #1. It drops to #4 this week. This is absolutely ridiculous. Hopefully, with Dua’s new single from Future Nostalgia Side B, Hits 1 will finally let it go to #1.

That being said, positions took Levitating’s spot this week, which I’m more than okay with. If anything should dethrone Monsters, it should be this, although I’ve been really enjoying Monsters lately, so I’d be fine with it staying at #1 for a few more weeks.

    1. Deep End needs to leave because I don’t like the way Fousheé sings and it needs to not debut the countdown

    1. Okay, so Holding On's probably gonna leave this or next week, which means... SHAYLEN IS PROBABLY FEBRUARY'S ONE TO WATCH!

    2. I guess that's reasonable given the fact that Shaylen was featured on Tony Fly and Symon's show recently.

  7. Stupid question, but I can't find the link to the Top songs based on Hits 1 for 2020. Could someone paste the link in a reply? Thanks and sorry if I sound like an idiot, I've really stopped listening to hits 1 but I want to know where the top 45 is.
