Last Year’s #1: If I Can’t Have You - Shawn Mendes [7/9 weeks at #1]

Countdown Extra: Be Happy - Dixie D’Amelio

Our first debut, at #26, after just one week in Hit-Bound, is Midnight Sky by Miley Cyrus. The production in this song is really really good. Like I last week, it sounds like something that would come out of Future Nostalgia. I don’t think Miley Cyrus was the best choice for this song, but she does an alright job here. This is an okay song.

But the real highlight of the debuts is our final debut this week, finally coming in at #17, Bang! by AJR!!! SiriusXM The Pulse, the AT40 and even the freaking Hot 100 all beat Hits 1 on adding this song to their lists. This is well overdue, but it’s here now, so I don’t even care. This is legit one of my favourite songs of probably ever. This is hands-down my favourite AJR song, even better than Sober Up (which I consider one of the most underrated songs of the 2010s). The carnival vibe fits Jack Met’s voice so well, and the chorus is so catchy. Even the weird voice saying “here we go” fits with this song. Everything about it works so well, and I love it in every way. I hope this is a huge hit.

Best Debut: Bang! - AJR

Biggest DROP!!!: Control - Zoe Wees (-7): Pffffffffshhhhh, HAHAHAHAHAHA. Two biggest drops in a row. I can’t believe it.

Biggest Jump: Breaking Me - Topic/A7S (+14): Woah. Didn’t expect that, but I’m really happy about it.

K-pop boy band sensation BTS have a new song this week called Dynamite, and dang! This is actually quite good! (Not as good as Make It Right, but that was just mostly because of Lauv.) The production in this song is honestly really great. The guitar fits really well, even if you can only barely hear it. The song overall is pretty catchy, but my only slow problem with this is that their voices aren’t that great. The main dudes sound alright, but the guys that have a huge falsetto don’t sound that great. The key change was also actually pretty well-done. Good job, BTS.

Five, six, seven, eight, this song isn’t that great. I’m talking about Backyard Boy by Claire Rosinkranz. I don’t like this really at all. Claire’s voice is seriously nothing that special, and the production is super boring. The deep robotic voice is super weird, and really shouldn’t be here. The writing’s also really weird. Yeah, not a fan.

Next up is a new song by country artist Morgan Wallen, called 7 Summers. Yeah, the same dude in Heartless (or Chasin’ You, if you read my Hot 100 posts. Check ‘em out. They’re some good stuff). I was kind of surprised when I saw that Hits 1 had picked up on a song by a country artist so quickly, but then it debuted in the top 10 of the Hot 100, which literally never happens with country music. Anyways, onto the actual song. It’s not that interesting. Like, at all. Morgan Wallen’s voice isn’t that interesting, and the production is super boring. Yeah, not much to talk about at all. I hope this doesn’t debut, since it really honestly shouldn’t be here, even if it’s probably gonna be a big hit.

New Zara Larsson music comes up next, this one being WOW. I’m kind of disappointed that they skipped over Like It Is with Kygo and Tyga, since it’s leagues better than this. Zara actually has a pretty good voice, but the production is way too weird for me to like it. I don’t think a single artist could pull off production like that. The verses are actually pretty good, but then you get to the… and know that it pains me to say this… drop (and I use that term loosely here). It’s pitched really weirdly, and cut up super weirdly, and I don’t even know what to think right now.

Best Debut: Dynamite - BTS

Let’s Go Out with a Blurb (Blurb! Blurb! Blurb!)

We lost two songs this week: Daisies and Break My Heart. Daisies always sucked, so I’m really happy to see it gone. As for Break My Heart, I’m really sad it didn’t get the #1, but it was getting kind of old. Still disappointed though.

How is Let There Be Love at #30? Come on. This better jump in the next couple of weeks.

HAHA my future is a FLOOOOOOOP!

How is WHATS POPPIN not doing better? It’s a hit and really good.

I guess I spoke too soon last week, as Roses loses its top 20 spot this week. Perfect.

Both Wildflower and Lose Somebody entered the top 20. I didn’t think the latter would get any momentum whatsoever, so I’m very happy, and the former… I mean, it’s 5SOS, what did you expect?

Like That actually got a decent jump this week. Hopefully it becomes a hit here.

Old Me finally left the top 10! This was well overdue, and should’ve happened months ago.

Come & Go is in the top 10? Uh, okay! I’ll certainly take it!

Both Watermelon Sugar and Midnight fell out of the top 5 this week, which is good because they’re starting to get old.

I Hope and Savage Love replaced them, which is great, because they’re good!

And our new #1… Moral of the Story. I’m not even gonna complain, because you guys know how I feel about this, and all I can say is that hopefully, Savage Love dethrones it very soon.
