2020 Ultimate Rank (#219-#161 Revealed)

What's good fam? We're starting this again, baby! But first, I'd just like to explain a couple changes that I'm making for this year. First of all, my reviews are probably gonna end up being a lot shorter, mainly because I don't want this to take the entire year like last year's Ultimate Rank did. But also, this year's gonna be a lot more focused on you guys. Basically be the end of this, we will have ranked the entire year, kind of like a huge rankdown. It'll start just by being basic Community Rankings. Using that, I'll break each song down into tiers based on how we ranked it. For example, each song that we made #1 will be put in the #1 tier. Then, we'll just have six small rankdowns of 20-something songs so that we'll have ranked the entire year, which I find really cool. If you're still not quite sure what I'm talking about, you'll see. Oh yeah also, Hit-Bound dropouts will be part of the rank, so we'll go through all of those right at the start (Because they're all lower than any Countdown song). Oh yeah, I guess I should also explain how I overcame the shortening of the Countdown. Basically, just once it switched to 30 songs, I did the points how it would've been if it was 45 (for example, 16 points for a #30). It's not perfect, but it's the best solution I could think of.

Edit: Community Rankings has been switched to a ratedown. The first link can be found here.

Alright, let's do this! I'm very excited to start this and I don't think it should take too long. So let's start!

#219: Naked - Ava Max
“Well, you can take off all my clothes
And never see me naked”
Album: Heaven & Hell - Ava Max
Written By: Amanda Ava Koci/Bonnie McKee/Diederik Van Elsas/Henry Walter/Jessie Eden Malakouti/Parrish Warrington
Produced By: Cirkut/Trackside
First Week in Hit-Bound: September 19
Last Week in Hit-Bound: September 19
Tenure: 1 week in Hit-Bound
Community Ranking: 1st
5: Bubby
4.5: Beluga
4.5: Waffle
3.5: Jackson

Yeah, so this was only in Hit-Bound for one week when Ava Max actually hosted Hit-Bound when she released Heaven & Hell. It wasn't actually a single, so I understand why it only lasted a week on Hit-Bound, but I think it deserved a little bit better (and clearly, so does everyone else). Ava sounds great here and the production's pretty cool. Personally, I think that both Kings & Queens and My Head & My Heart are better, but whatever.

This song will go on to play in the winners tier at the end of the Ultimate Rank and will compete for the title of our favourite song of the year! This is the worst-performing of three Ava Max songs this year. This is the worst-performing of two songs from her album Heaven & Hell.

#218: Paper Rings - Taylor Swift
“I like shiny things, but I'd marry you with paper rings
Uh huh, that's right”
Album: Lover - Taylor Swift
Written By: Jack Antonoff/Taylor Swift
Produced By: Jack Antonoff/Taylor Swift
First Week in Hit-Bound: January 25
Last Week in Hit-Bound: February 1… kind of
Tenure: 1 ½ weeks in Hit-Bound
Community Ranking: 2nd
6: Beluga
6: Waffle
3: Bubby
1: Jackson

I'm pretty sure this was a mistake on Hits 1's part. They picked this up a week before Taylor released The Man, so they probably thought that this would be the next single. They also replaced it with The Man halfway through its second week on Hit-Bound so... Anyways, I'm still happy it was played even if just for a little bit. It's one of the best songs on Lover, mainly because it's just so upbeat and fun.

This is the worst-performing of eight Taylor Swift songs in 2020. This is the worst-performing of five songs from her album Lover.

#217: Anyone - Demi Lovato
“Anyone, please send me anyone
Lord, is there anyone?”
Album: Dancing with the Devil...The Art of Starting Over - Demi Lovato
Written By: Badriia “Bibi” Bourelly/Dayyon Alexander/Demi Lovato/Eyelar Mirzazadeh/Jay Mooncie/Sam Roman
Produced By: Dayyon Alexander
First Week in Hit-Bound: February 8
Last Week in Hit-Bound: February 15
Tenure: 2 weeks in Hit-Bound
Community Ranking: 9th
4: Bubby
1.5: Waffle
0.5: Beluga
-1: Jackson

This was definitely not the best return for Demi Lovato. For one thing, it's quite slow, then on top of that, her voice is really scratchy and almost off-key and it really doesn't sound good. That being said, the writing was great and probably saved it from being absolutely terrible, but it still wasn't good.

This song gets last place in this Community Rank and will go on to try not to be our least favourite song of the year. This is the worst-performing of five Demi Lovato songs in 2020.

#216: exile - Taylor Swift/Bon Iver
“Now I'm in exile seein' you out
I think I've seen this film before”
Album: folklore - Taylor Swift
Written By: Justin Vernon/Taylor Swift/William Bowery
Produced By: Aaron Dessner
First Week in Hit-Bound: August 8
Last Week in Hit-Bound: August 22
Tenure: 3** weeks in Hit-Bound
Community Ranking: 4th
6: Bubby
5: Beluga
2: Waffle
0: Jackson

This was easily the best song from folklore. Both Taylor and the guy from Bon Iver sound pretty great here and they sound really good together too. The writing's fantastic and that piano line is also just great. There's nothing here that I hate, but I guess I can kind of understand why you wouldn't like it. This deserved more than just one week on Hit-Bound and two weeks on the Voting Poll, though.

This is the second-worst performing of eight Taylor Swift songs and the only Bon Iver song in 2020. This is the worst-performing of two songs from Taylor's album folklore.

#215: Check Your Phone - Cheap Cuts/Pete Wentz
“Drink until it feels right, drink until it feels right
Check your phone, check your phone, check your phone”
Album: Check Your Phone (Feat. Pete Wentz of Fall Out Boy) - Cheap Cuts
Written By: Jack Leonard/Jonny Harris/Pete Wentz
Produced By: Cheap Cuts
First Week in Hit-Bound: April 25
Last Week in Hit-Bound: May 9
Tenure: 3 weeks in Hit-Bound
Community Ranking: 5th
4: Bubby
3.5: Beluga
2.5: Waffle
2: Jackson

This song was quite weird, but it was actually a lot of fun too. The production was low-key great and while I don't think Pete Wentz's talking worked too well with the song, it was still enjoyable. I especially liked the line "Twenty four-seven loneliness, livestream, no regrets". I'm not too sad that this dropped out of Hit-Bound, though and it was definitely expected.

This is the only Cheap Cuts song and the worst-performing of three songs that Pete Wentz was in in 2020.

#214: Boyfriend - Selena Gomez
“I want a boyfriend
But I just keep hitting dead ends”
Album: Rare (Deluxe) - Selena Gomez
Written By: Julia Michaels/Justin Tranter/Jon Wienner/Sam Homaee/Selena Gomez
Produced By: The Roommates
First Week in Hit-Bound: April 18
Last Week in Hit-Bound: May 9
Tenure: 4 weeks in Hit-Bound
Community Ranking: 8th
3.5: Bubby
3.5: Waffle
1.5: Jackson
-1: Beluga

This song was really bad. I really don't get the appeal at all of this song. Selena Gomez sounds terrible here and the layered whispering later in the song sounds really bad. This was the worst Hit-Bound dropout of the year and I'm really happy that it never debuted.

This is the worst-performing of five Selena Gomez songs in 2020. This is the worst-performing of three singles from her album Rare.

#213: Mind Is A Prison - Alec Benjamin
“Guess my mind is a prison
And I'm never gonna get out”
Album: These Two Windows - Alec Benjamin
Written By: Alec Benjamin/Alex Hope
Produced By: Alex Hope
First Week in Hit-Bound: December 21 (2019)
Last Week in Hit-Bound: January 11
Tenure: 4 weeks in Hit-Bound
Community Ranking: 6th
5: Bubby
2.5: Beluga
2.5: Jackson
1.5: Waffle

This was one of the better Alec Benjamin songs from 2020. The main thing that saves it from being ridiculously boring and me putting it in cyan is that the chorus is decent. But yeah, it's still boring and Alec Benjamin doesn't sound that good.

This is the worst-performing of five Alec Benjamin songs in 2020. This is the worst-performing of three songs from his album These Two Windows.

#212: Finally // beautiful stranger - Halsey
“Beautiful stranger, here you are in my arms
But I think it's finally, finally, finally, finally, finally safe”
Album: Manic - Halsey
Written By: Greg Kurstin/Halsey
Produced By: Greg Kurstin
First Week in Hit-Bound: December 14 (2019)
Last Week in Hit-Bound: January 4
Tenure: 4 weeks in Hit-Bound
Community Ranking: 7th
5: Bubby
2.5: Beluga
2.5: Waffle
1: Jackson

This song was ridiculously boring. I'm pretty happy that it ended up being replaced by You should be sad. There was one good thing here and that was that Halsey actually sounds quite good here. But the production is boring too and doesn't really bring it up further than mediocre.

This is the worst-performing of six Halsey songs in 2020. This is the worst-performing of three songs from her/their album Manic.

#211: Living Proof - Camila Cabello
“There's God in every move, ooh
And you're the living proof (oh)”
Album: Romance - Camila Cabello
Written By: Ali Tamposi/Justin Tranter/Camila Cabello/Mattias Larsson/Robin Fredriksson
Produced By: Mattman & Robin
First Week in Hit-Bound: December 7 (2019)
Last Week in Hit-Bound: December 28 (2019)
Tenure: 4 weeks in Hit-Bound
Community Ranking: 3rd
4.5: Bubby
3.5: Beluga
3.5: Waffle
2.5: Jackson

This song was fun, but no, I'm not really disappointed that it ended up being replaced by My Oh My, even if it was the version without DaBaby. Camila sounds great here, although she hits some notes in the chorus that I would rather go without. My only issue with this is that I think there could have been more production. Just slightly more and it would've been great. Still not bad, though.

This is the worst-performing of five Camila Cabello songs in 2020 and the worst-performing of four songs from her album Romance.

#210: Man - JoJo
“I’m gonna need myself a man
Someone who want me like a fan”
Album: good to know - JoJo
Written By: Chelsea Lena/Lauren LaRue/Cameron Lazar/Evon Barnes, Jr./Joanna Levesque/Rodrick Doss Jr./Sofia Quinn

Tenure: 5* weeks in Hit-Bound
Community Ranking: 7th
5: Waffle
4: Bubby
3.5: Jackson
2: Ethan
1: Beluga

I never really liked this song. I don't think that JoJo sounds good here really at all and the production is really basic and boring. I also don't like how in the chorus she goes: "I'm gonna need myself a... MAn" it just feels weird to me. If you like it though, cool. I'm glad it dropped out of Hit-Bound, though.

This is the only JoJo song in 2020.

#209: Six Feet Apart - Alec Benjamin
“Oh I, miss you most at
Six feet apart when you're”
Album: Six Feet Apart - Alec Benjamin
Written By: Alec Benjamin/Dan Wilson
Produced By: Tiggs

Tenure: 5* weeks in Hit-Bound
Community Ranking: 10th
3.5: Beluga
3: Bubby

-1: Jackson
-1: Waffle

Yeah so this actually had a score of 0.5 before Bubby submitted. Anyways, I definitely don't hate this song. It's kind of simplistic, but I don't mind it. I think he sounds pretty good here, probably the best he's ever sounded. However, it's still pretty boring and extremely forgettable. Also, he wrote this, like, two weeks into COVID. If he felt this way that early, yikes.

This is the second-worst performing of five Alec Benjamin songs in 2020.

#208: P.S. I Hope You're Happy - The Chainsmokers/blink-182
“Okay, enough
P.S. I hope you're happy”
Album: World War Joy - The Chainsmokers
Written By: Emily Warren/Alex Pall/Andrew Taggart/Mark Hoppus/Travis Barker
Produced By: The Chainsmokers/Travis Barker
First Week in Hit-Bound: March 14

5: Jackson
4: Beluga
3.5: Bubby

1: Ethan

This song was a lot of fun. I wish it was a bit bigger and I would've loved for it to debut the Countdown. My only issue with it is that I wish that there was a little more of a drop in the chorus, but whatever. Both guys sound good here and the melody writing is actually really good. It's super interesting and keeps you hooked the entire time. I dare you to listen to this and lose interest in the melody halfway through. It's pretty hard.

This is the worst-performing of three songs by The Chainsmokers and the only blink-182 song in 2020. This is also the worst-performing of three songs from The Chainsmokers' album World War Joy.

#207: Up All Night - Khalid
“Keeps me up all night
Keeps me”
Album: Up All Night - Khalid

Community Ranking: 3rd
4.5: Jackson
4: Beluga

3.5: Ethan
2.5: Waffle

If this song was more memorable, it probably would've been a really big hit. Khalid just sounds like he's having a lot of fun here and the production is pretty interesting too. But yeah, it was forgettable and that was probably a big reason why it got replaced by Know Your Worth.

This is the worst-performing of four Khalid songs in 2020. This is also the worst-performing of two songs from his upcoming untitled third album.

#206: Make It Right - BTS/Lauv
“I know that I messed up but I promise, I
Oh-oh, I can make it right”
Album: Make It Right (feat. Lauv) - BTS

Oh yeah! BTS had another song in 2020 that I liked! I think pretty much the only reason that I liked this was Lauv, though. The BTS parts aren't fantastic, but the melody is really good and I like the production here. Lauv has a really unique voice and I think he works quite well with this song. I'm sad that this wasn't a bigger hit.

This is the worst-performing of two BTS songs and the worst-performing of two Lauv songs in 2020.

#205: Drinks - Cyn
“He got mad, so I got drinks
No, I'm not walking around in circles worried about what he thinks”

I really don't like this song. It's way too Billie Eilish-like for me to like. Cyn sounds alright in the verses, but she's doing the whisper-talking thing in the chorus that sounds really bad. The production's also really boring. I'm very glad that this song didn't debut, as it's pretty bad.

This is the only Cyn song in 2020.

#204: Angels & Demons - jxdn
“And all these angels and demons

This was one of my least favourite pop-rock songs of the year, but I generally like pop-rock, so this was still fun and I enjoyed it. jxdn's voice isn't great here, but I think it works decently well with the production. I don't know, I feel like I should like it more than I do, but something's holding me back and I can't really put my finger on it.

This is the only jxdn song in 2020.

#203: Slow Dance - AJ Mitchell/Ava Max

I had forgotten how great this song was before I re-listened to it. But wow, this song is so good. Both AJ Mitchell and Ava Max sound fantastic here and when they sing together in that last chorus, it's just really really great. The chorus itself is also pretty catchy and I think the production was good enough to add to the song without being too much (because it's still a ballad, after all). I really wish that this song was a bigger hit. It really deserved it and I'm not sure why it wasn't.

This is the only AJ Mitchell song and the second-best performing of three Ava Max songs in 2020.

#202: Let's Fall in Love for the Night - FINNEAS

Dang, I really liked this song. Ok, then. This song honestly just gives me strong summer vibes. I remember when Hits 1 picked it up and I was listening to it a lot. I think FINNEAS sounds quite good here and his production is great, especially in the verses. The song's also very interesting and just really fun to listen to. I'm sad that this never ended up debuting, it was a lot of fun.

This is the only FINNEAS song in 2020.

Ahhh every time I hear that intro it makes me so excited for the rest of the song. Internet Money did such a great job with the production. The guitar sounds really good and the beat is great too. Everybody was cast perfectly here and I cannot stress this enough. The remix really just strengthens my point, too, because it ditches Gunna and NAV's verses and gives a verse to Don Toliver, which just really didn't work with the song. I'm so glad that this ended up being a top 10 hit on the Hot 100 and it really deserved to at least be given a chance on Hits 1.

This is the only song from all artists in 2020.

#200: POPSTAR - DJ Khaled/Drake

Yes, I'm aware that this is a day late. Don't expect every reveal to be out on time. Anyways, I don't think that this was Drake's best work in 2020. That would probably go to his verse in Life Is Good by Future. Anyways, this was still fine. DJ Khaled's production here was really great, I just think Drake lacked a lot of charisma in this song and he sounded like he was really bored with it the entire time. I'm not too disappointed that it didn't debut.

This is the only DJ Khaled song and the worst-performing of three Drake songs in 2020.

This song was just ridiculously boring. There was literally nothing going on at all. The instrumentation could've had so many more layers and the guy's voice wasn't even that interesting. Also, in the unedited version, that intro is extremely long.

This is the only song by The 1975 in 2020.

#198: Backyard Boy - Claire Rosinkranz

This song was not that good, and no, it wasn't because of her voice or anything, it was entirely because of the production. It was just so weird. There's robotic vocals going on, the melodies are really odd too, so it's not like they compliment the production either. Overall, I just think that this song could've been a lot cleaner and it felt a little all over the place.

This is the only Claire Rosinkranz song in 2020.

There was nothing that I disliked about this song, she sounded good, the bassline was good and the melody was alright, but it was just really boring. There could have been much more going on in the production than literally just the bassline and her voice couldn't really save that even if she sounded alright. Again, I'm not too disappointed that this dropped out of Hit-Bound.

This is the only Blu DeTiger song in 2020.

This song was fun. Both guys sounded pretty good here and I think they worked well with the production. The writing was kind of fun at points too "Used to be a hot boy but I'm straight gorgeous now" is personally my favourite line. Yeah, that's all. Just an enjoyable song.

This is the only Curtis Waters song and the only Harm Franklin song in 2020.

I actually really enjoyed this song. I thought it was pretty fun. All the guys singing here sounded good, I could understand the lyrics, so that's a bonus and while it didn't have French Montana or some cool production like WHO DO U LOVE? did, I still think it was an enjoyable song. Yes, I'll admit it was kind of forgettable, though.

This is the only Monsta X song in 2020.

I love this song. I think I've explained why quite a bit now. The production's great, Kehlani sounds great and that key change is amazing. It got my Lights Over Paris award and I think it really deserved to debut the Countdown and I'm quite sad that it didn't.

This is the worst-performing of two Zedd songs and the only Kehlani song in 2020.

This was a fantastic promotional single. It deserved so much more than what it got. This song is just unbelievably fun and upbeat. This is easily the best single from Future Nostalgia. Dua Lipa sounds great, the 80s vibe is super prominent, which is awesome and that production is so good. This definitely deserved to debut and I'm honestly really sad that it didn't.

This is the worst-performing of five Dua Lipa songs in 2020 and the worst-performing of four songs from her album Future Nostalgia.

#192: Lay Your Head On Me - Major Lazer/Marcus Mumford
“And every single choice that you made

This song is the pure definition of forgettable. I mean, it's Major Lazer, you think it should be upbeat and memorable, right? Nope. This and their other representation from this year, Walking, were both kind of boring. Marcus Mumford's vocals here were alright and I think they complimented the track, but it was just so forgettable and pretty boring too.

This is the worst-performing of two Major Lazer songs, the only Marcus Mumford song and the worst-performing of four Diplo songs in 2020.

Well, if anything good came out of the pandemic, it was this. This song is literally what the title implies. It's pretty much just saying how much 2020 sucked and they executed it very well. There are some hilarious lines here and while I feel like there could've been more production, everybody sounded good here and it was really funny. It got ridiculously close to debuting the Countdown too, and I really wish that it did.

This is the only Avenue Beat song in 2020.

This song was really substanceless, but funnily enough, it was better than Haunt You. Anyways, the guys here just sounded kind of annoying. I guess the production wasn't terrible I guess, but the song was annoying and not memorable at all, so it just made for a pretty bad song.

This is the worst-performing of two X Lovers songs in 2020. It will also now join Anyone, If You're Too Shy and Six Feet Apart to try and not be named our least favourite song of 2020.

This song was honestly just really cool. It definitely deserved to debut and it kind of sucks that it didn't. But anyways, the production was really cool here and everybody here sounds good. Their flows are good although they're nothing special. This was honestly just really enjoyable. Good song.

This is the only song from Young T & Bugsey and Headie One in 2020.

When this was actually airing on Hit-Bound, I thought that it was only alright, but after it left, I really grew into it. I think everybody here sounds really good (aside from maybe the first rapper) and it really works with the production. The hook is actually really strong in my opinion and I think it just worked perfectly with the song. My favourite part though, is the bridge (the "passport" part). This was a great song that deserved to be a hit.

This is the only BROCKHAMPTON song in 2020.

This was one of the weaker Travis Scott singles in my opinion. SICKO MODE will always remain a masterpiece and so will Take What You Want. It was still a decent song though. A good performance from Travis Scott, a decent performance from Thugger and good production. My only problem with it is that M.I.A. doesn't fit with the song at all. It would've been better without her. Oh, also, it's not that memorable either.

This is the worst-performing of two Travis Scott songs, the worst-performing of two Young Thug songs and the only M.I.A. song in 2020.

I really enjoyed this song, actually. I think this was one of Sam's best vocal performances in a while. They did really good here. The simple piano line worked and the melody was fantastic. The scary voice didn't work, though, and I don't get why it was there.

This is the worst-performing of four Sam Smith songs in 2020 and the worst-performing of four songs from their album Love Goes.

I actually really enjoyed this song. I think Niall Horan sounds really good here and the songwriting is quite good. The simple production compliments the song really well and I think Niall also did a really good job on that too. Personally, I feel like this deserved to debut much more than Small Talk or No Judgement did, but whatever. Oh yeah, also, this was quite forgettable and that's the only downside to this song.

This is the worst-performing of six Niall Horan songs in 2020 and the worst-performing of five songs from his album Heartbreak Weather.

Wow, I really grew into this song after it dropped out of Hit-Bound. At first, it seemed a little underwhelming, but I've grown to really like the production and I think Khalid's voice works really well with it. The chorus is honestly pretty catchy and that last chorus is really really good. I kind of wish that this was a bigger hit and that I appreciated it more while it was here.

This is the second-worst performing of four Khalid songs and the only Disclosure song in 2020.

This was my favourite new Tones And I song of 2020. The production here was just honestly so cool and I think her voice fits it really well. This song got ridiculously close to debuting and it probably would've if the Countdown didn't end up getting shortened, so that kind of sucks. Oh yeah, quick side note, but I love how Tones And I's real name is Toni.

This is the worst-performing of three Tones And I songs in 2020.

#182: Toosie Slide - Drake

This song was... fine. Again, I don't think that this was Drake's best work this year, but it was still decent. Drake sounded good and the melody was quite interesting. The only problem is that the production really didn't live up to the rest of the song. I feel like so much more could've been done with it, but it just feels pretty underwhelming.

This is the second-best performing of three Drake songs in 2020.

#181: Bad Child - Tones And I

...And, here's the other Tones And I Hit-Bound Dropout of the year. This song was pretty interesting and executed quite well too. The piano line sounds very similar to Dance Monkey's, but other than that, her voice complimented the track well, the melody is extremely interesting and well-written and it definitely deserved to debut. Sucks that it didn't.

This is the second-best performing of three Tones And I songs in 2020, and will, surprisingly, go on to compete with NakedLemonade and Physical for the title of our favourite song of the year.

#180: Together - Sia

I never thought that this song was that good. It was fun and the chorus was catchy, but Sia didn't sound very good and there could be a lot more to the production. It also just gets kind of boring at times and it's pretty forgettable. All that being said, I still don't hate this and I still find the chorus good.

This is the only Sia song in 2020.

#179: Tap In - Saweetie

I've never really liked Saweetie. Her song My Type wasn't good and it took me a while to grow into Best Friend and that was mostly because of Doja Cat. So yeah, it's safe to say that I don't like this song. Saweetie just sounds really bad here and she honestly sounds annoying in the chorus and I hate it. I would say that the remix with Post MaloneJack Harlow and DaBaby is better, except the chorus happens, like, five or six times in that version, so I don't know.

This is the only Saweetie song in 2020.

This was released alongside Come & Go as a single from Legends Never Die and while Come & Go is much better (scoring #2 on my favourite songs of the year list), this is definitely still a good song. Juice sounds great here as he almost always does and the lyrics kind of hit hard. The melody's good too, the production's good and overall, it's just a good song. I wish that this debuted the Countdown, but it's okay.

This is the worst-performing of two Juice WRLD songs in 2020 and the worst-performing of two songs from his album Legends Never Die.

Not gonna lie, I definitely forgot that this song exists. The production is cool and both Meghan and Nicki sound good here, but it's just really forgettable and nothing about it really grips me. I honestly found it hard to remember what a lot of it sounded like before re-listening to it. Niall's song of the same name is better.

This is the only Meghan Trainor song and the only Nicki Minaj song in 2020.

I used to like this song a lot. But then, Hits 1 refused to let it go even though they also refused to give it a chance. It kept leaving and re-entering Hit-Bound and it was super annoying. The song itself is good, Niall sounds good, the lyrics are good and the song's fast enough to keep it from getting boring, but Hits 1 really killed this one.

This is the second-worst performing of six Niall Horan songs in 2020 and the second-worst performing of five songs from his album Heartbreak Weather.

So we're officially done with the Hit-Bound dropouts and we're starting to move on to the Countdown songs. This is the first of them, spending literally only one week at #45 the first week of 2020. This was a good song though and I'm glad that it just narrowly managed to be included here. Camila sounds really good here and the song is upbeat and really fun. The thing that really brings it home, though, is the production. Those saxophones fit so well with the song and I really really love it. Good song.

This is the second-worst performing of five Camila Cabello songs in 2020. This is also the second-worst performing of four songs from her album Romance.

I generally like AJR. I've loved pretty much everything that they've put out since I first heard them with Weak. But the thing is, the thing that I love so much about AJR is that they have this fun, upbeat charm to them, and boy oh boy is it non-existent here. This is a ballad, but it really doesn't work. Jack Met honestly isn't the best singer, but with all of their blown-up production, it tends to shield that and he sounds pretty good, but here, with everything stripped down, you can really hear it, especially when he tries to go out of his range. On top of that, the song is just really boring too. There's nothing happening in the song whatsoever. So yeah, this song's pretty bad.

This is the worst-performing of three AJR songs in 2020. This will also go on to try not to be our least favourite song of 2020.

When I think of 2019 songs, this is one of the first songs that comes to mind. It was honestly an anthem throughout a good chunk of the year and I'm glad it just barely managed to sneak in here. All of the JoBros sound great here and the production is fantastic. This is their best song hands-down and it's so much fun and I love it. So long, great song that I'll probably never get to review again.

This is the worst-performing of five Jonas Brothers songs in 2020. It's also the worst-performing of two songs from their album Happiness Begins.

I really enjoyed this song, but I can see why people didn't. It's a country/EDM fusion and honestly, I don't think I hate that genre. Between this and Diplo's Heartless, I think I'd like to see more country/EDM songs. Anyways, Marshmello does pretty well here and I really like the drop. Kane Brown's also one of the more tolerable country singers, so his voice isn't that annoying. Yeah, I liked this song.

This is the worst-performing of five Marshmello songs and the worst-performing of two Kane Brown songs in 2020.

I really like NF's pop songs. Let You Down and Lie are both fantastic and this definitely isn't an exception. NF's flow in the verses is really good, he sounds great in the chorus and although I could do without the chopped-up vocals in the "drop", the production is pretty good. I'm really glad that this became a pretty big hit even if Hits 1 didn't really treat it as such.

This is the only NF song in 2020 and it will go on to compete for the title of "Our Favourite Song of 2020"!

As we continue with our first few Countdown songs, we reach the only top 45 one-weeker. I really enjoyed this song and I think it deserved so much more than just one week on the Countdown, as was the case with our one-weeker in 2019, Power is PowerLouis sounds great here and I really love the melody in this song. The single edit is the only good one though, because the album version has a really weird mix that I don't like. Yeah, I wish that this song lasted for a bit longer.

This is a really really bad song. This would get my orange had it actually been a hit in 2020 and not just crossed over for a few weeks. Halsey is just screaming throughout the entire chorus and she/they really don't sound good. I guess the verses are fine, but I just can't get over the glaring issues that this song has.

Yup, I definitely forgot about this song. It's definitely one of the more forgettable FOB songs, but that's definitely not saying it's not good. Both Patrick Stump and Wyclef Jean sound good here and the song is honestly just a lot of fun. The chorus is great and I really like the production on this one too. Overall, this is a good song that I forgot about and that I'm definitely gonna forget about again.

“The world's not perfect, but it's not that bad
If we got each other, and that's all we have”

I don't normally like Alec Benjamin's music, but this was quite good actually. The writing is quite great and Alec actually sounds decent. It's only slightly boring though and it definitely shouldn't have been as big as it was on Hits 1. I find it funny that it spent an entire month on the Countdown in 2020 though, as I was surprised that it even spent a single week on the Countdown.

This is the third-best performing of five Alec Benjamin songs in 2020.

#164: Panini - Lil Nas X
“Ayy, Panini, don't you be a meanie
Thought you wanted me to go up”
Album: 7 EP - Lil Nas X

This was Lil Nas X's second song to be on Hits 1 and to be completely honest, I kind of forgot about it. Don't get me wrong, I definitely still like it, I think it's his third-best song to date after Old Town Road and HOLIDAY, but it's kind of forgettable. Despite that though, Lil Nas X sounds great here and the song's pretty catchy. I'm glad this spent some time on Hits 1 even if it wasn't much and it did absolutely nothing on the Countdown.

This is the worst-performing of two Lil Nas X songs in 2020.

#163: queen of broken hearts - blackbear
“I'm the queen of broken hearts
Break you in a thousand parts”

And there goes our last one-weeker of 2020. I still really enjoy this song and I revisit it every now and then because it was a pretty fun song. blackbear sounds good here as he almost always does and there's minimal pitch-shifting on his voice. No, wait... there's a ton of pitch-shifting on his voice, but I don't really care that much. The hook is pretty catchy even if it's not as catchy as hot girl bummer's hook and I'm glad that this could spend a week on the Countdown.

This is the worst-performing of seven blackbear songs in 2020. It's also the worst-performing of three songs from his album everything means nothing. This song will go on to compete for the title of our favourite song of 2020.

#162: Lonely - Diplo/Jonas Brothers
“I think you should be alone with me
Because we don't have to be lonely”
Album: Diplo Presents Thomas Wesley Chapter 1: Snake Oil - Diplo

This song was also super forgettable and I had almost completely forgotten what the verses sounded like before I re-listened to it. This song isn't bad. I really enjoy the verses and I think all of the Jonas Brothers sound good in them, but my only problem with this is still that guitar. I never liked that guitar in the drop and my opinion on that hasn't changed in the slightest. This is still better than the other Lonely from this year though.

This is the second-worst performing of four Diplo songs and the second-worst performing of five Jonas Brothers songs in 2020. This is also the worst-performing of two songs from Diplo's album Snake Oil.

#161: willow - Taylor Swift

So this song literally just left the Countdown yesterday from when I'm writing this. I still like this song. Taylor Swift sounds good and the production is pretty cool. I also like how it strays from the typical structure of a song. The most notable thing here though is the fact that this song is so high on this rank even though its only week in 2020 was its debut week.

This is the third-worst performing of eight Taylor Swift songs in 2020.

  6. Ok screw it I’m gonna do this lol

Naked: This wasn’t a single so it makes sense, but at the same time Hits1 has proven to not give a crap about that sometimes so this deserved better.
Paper Rings: Same as above. I’m still almost positive this was a mistake on Hits1’s end.
Anyone: You gotta update the album title, as for some godawful reason, she decided to include this on her upcoming new album and not I Love Me. If you need evidence why I think she’s seriously declined from greatness over the past few years, there it is.
Exile: I honestly don’t dislike this as much as I used to, it does eventually become pretty decent as it goes on, but it starts out so bad that I can’t call it more than mediocre. And it’s still super overrated.
Check Your Phone: Very strange song, not complaining it dropped out bc it probably would’ve gotten pretty annoying if it didn’t, but I don’t mind this tbh
Boyfriend: I’m sorry Beluga but I still kinda like this one. However, I literally NEVER seek it out, cause it’s kinda forgettable and it’s not THAT good. Ariana’s >>>
    F/BS: It exists..?
Living Proof: There’s so much wrong with this…why do I still sort of like it?
Man: I mean, it wasn’t a hit, I’m frankly pretty impressed they picked this up at all, but it deserved better
6 Feet Apart: Unfortunately this song is still relevant. But even when it finally isn’t, nothing will ever change how awful it really is.
PSIHYH: This is the only HB dropout in 2020 that I could not remember even a few seconds of it for the life of me until it came time to re-listen to all of them. I can still only sort of remember the drop and that’s it. It is a decent song though.
Up All Night: This is decent but it’s not interesting at all.
Make It Right: I can’t stand this. The instrumental is so annoying and everyone on here (including Lauv) sounds really bad. So happy this didn’t make it to the countdown.
Drinks: The chorus is really strange and also reminds me a bit too much of Billie Eilish’s edgy side. Everything else however is solid so this is decent.
Angels and Demons: This guy is trying to be edgy and I don’t buy it whatsoever,
Slow Dance: Deserved better. This seriously grew on me since it dropped out (probably because that was when I really started to fall in love with Ava Max and her music)
LFILFTN: Ok never mind what I said about PSIHYH, I can’t remember what this sounds like at all. All I remember is that it’s bad.
Lemonade: Considering the pretty weak list of artists, this is quite a good song. Although I slightly prefer the remix with Roddy Ricch and an actual verse from Don, because out of all 4 verses, Roddy’s is easily the best.
    Popstar: Banger
If You’re Too Shy: Not a banger
Backyard Boy: This is cute but it’s also kinda forgettable
Figure It Out: This had potential to be good but it’s just not that interesting
    Stunnin: Very odd song
You Can’t Hold My Heart: Completely forgot this was a thing
    Good Thing: Deserved better
Physical: This really deserved to become a hit in North America. This song is absolutely amazing. One of the best of the whole year…and yet it’s not even the best on the album.
    LYHOM: Bland
F2020: Well, we’re in 2021 and so far it’s not much better so this aged real well.
    Play Your Game: Ew
Don’t Rush: This is a really cool song and I’m happy it crossed over even if it didn’t become a bigger hit.
    Sugar: 🤖
Franchise: Definitely not my favourite Travis/Thugger collab but this is good
To Die For: Songs like this are why I never liked Sam Smith’s music. I do prefer this over some of their hits from 2014 and 2015, but not by that much. Also yes, that weird voice does still scare me even a year later.

PALLOM: Boring and I can't stand his voice
Know Your Worth: Again, this actually kinda grew on me since it dropped outta HB
    USFC: Decent song
Toosie Slide: This is such a stupid song I can't help but enjoy it every time
Bad Child: It's not great because I definitely don't love her voice at all, but out of all 4 songs of hers I've heard, probably my favourite. It's pretty good.
Together: I guess this song is solid but it's also completely forgettable. Also apparently the movie that this song is from is absolute crap.
    Tap In: Bumps
Wishing Well: I still wish I liked this one more than I do. It's a decent song but I can't really call it anything more. And I'm honestly really surprised they picked this up at all.
NTMY MT: Fun song. And I'm still really amused that they kept this around on HB until May
Liar: And here we get to all of the late 2019 songs that were still on the countdown for the first 2 months of the year. These are gonna be fun to revisit, I can already tell, as most of them I completely forgot were actually on the countdown in 2020. As for this, epic sax on an otherwise decent song so overall it's good
Dear Winter: Okay nevermind, revisiting this one was painful. This fails at being an AJR song on every level (aside from having absolutely ridiculous lyrics, which this absolutely does). Probably one of the worst songs in the entire ultimate rank, I honestly think I didn't put this high enough on my worst list of 2019.
Sucker: Ah yes, the 13-week #1. Good song. Frankly I'm a bit surprised this didn't stick around into 2020 longer than it actually did.
One Thing Right: God I completely forgot how awful the production on this one is lmao. This deserved the biggest drop of the year...I guess?
Time: Decent song, but again, I completely forgot it was on the countdown in 2020.

    1. I was gonna mention that Music was problematic, then decided against it, as it really doesn't matter that much when looking at the song... then again, I removed Floating Through Space from my Crownnote for that reason so...

    2. Crap did I really leave that in there? I pasted that there so I didn't have to scroll all the way up every time lol

  9. DLIBYH: Ahh yes, the last 1-weeker of the top 45. That’s literally the most notable thing about it. The chorus is good but the verses are bland so overall it’s fine. I actually think the album version is a bit better, it sounds cleaner to me.
Nightmare: Literally only the top 45 would still be playing this at the beginning of 2020, and the fact that they did is one of the many reasons I’m convinced New Years Day last year wasn’t until mid-March because it sure doesn’t feel like this was still on the countdown for the first month of 2020. Also the song itself is still obnoxious as hell.
Dear Future Self: Again, another song that I totally forgot was still on the countdown in 2020. In my defence it was only for the 1st week. Revisiting it…it’s okay. Wyclef actually fits in pretty decently.
Purple Hat: This was yet another one that I totally forgot about and just like you Beluga, I was probably better off that way. This is probably the strangest song on Hits1 of 2020 and there were a couple really odd ones. The Business ain’t got nothing on this when it comes to artificially deep vocals, and it’s pretty annoying.
7 Summers: Unfortunately I’m not so lucky in forgetting this one exists thanks to the controversy surrounding him. I’m really glad I decided I really didn’t like his music from the very beginning.

  10. IWHEO: How did this stick around into 2020…something about that just doesn’t add up
Panini: The DaBaby remix is better but this is still a slapper
QOBH: I don’t really get the love with this. It’s okay
Lonely: So much better than Justin’s. Honestly why tf do I still like this
Willow: Easily one of the better songs from an album that I literally haven’t listened to at all since the night it dropped bc I’ve had no reason to return to it since it was so boring
