So Laugh Now Cry Later re-entered the Countdown this week at #24. I’m fine with this, although it should’ve re-entered like a month ago but whatever.
Our only debut this week comes in at #15 and it’s willow by Taylor Swift. This is probably one of the highest debuts since the Countdown was shortened, but I’m not entirely sure yet. As for the song itself, it’s pretty good. I find it super similar to cardigan, as it probably shouldn’t have been released as the lead single, as it’s a little boring but Taylor’s vocals are good and everything as a whole is decent. Overall, this definitely isn’t one of the best songs from evermore, but it’s not the worst either.
Biggest DROP!!!: Lonely - Justin Bieber/benny blanco (-7): Honestly, I don’t care that this dropped. Actually, I find it more amusing than anything else.
Biggest Jump: Save Your Tears - The Weeknd (+14): Okay, whatever. I wouldn’t mind if this was a hit.

So Ed Sheeran released a song on Monday I believe, called Afterglow and it makes its debut on Hit-Bound this week. This for sure isn’t my favourite Ed Sheeran song, that would probably go to that promotional single from last year, Antisocial with Travis Scott, but this definitely isn’t bad. It’s not exactly the type of music I love, but Ed’s lead vocal sounds good and I don’t find this too boring. My only real problem with this is that there are some odd harmonies that sound almost robotic and are really odd. But still a good song.

Life Was a Blurb-ow and It Bent Right to Your Wind
So we lost two Countdown songs this week, Be Like That and Fallin’. Be Like That became a much bigger hit than I expected it too and that’s probably why I didn’t love it as much near the end of its run, but I feel like Fallin’ should’ve been a much bigger hit. It was great and there was nothing wrong with it. I’m glad it made it into the top 10 though.
We also lost Blueberry Eyes off of Hit-Bound. This actually got pretty close to debuting and I would’ve been fine if that happened, but I also don’t really care that it’s gone.
I’m super glad that Heather is finally in the bottom 5, but it still should’ve left two months ago.
Sure, I’d like to see Bummerland become a hit. Why not?
Monster jumped into the top 20 this week, which is great but why did it bring Put Your Records On with it? Seriously? Why is this becoming a hit?
Cool to see my ex’s best friend so high at #6 this week. I’d be pretty happy if it jumped into the top 5.
So Golden dropped three spots to #4 this week. That’s a great way to end the year. I’m really happy but also quite surprised that it only lasted two weeks at #1. Also, apparently, he was just one week away from spending exactly half of the year at #1 here. Seriously? That’s just absolutely insane.
Our new #1 though, is Monsters, which I’m actually quite happy about and I could see it sticking around there for a while. It’s both All Time Low and blackbear’s first #1s here and I’m super glad that All Time Low got a #1, as I think they’re super underrated, but I think blackbear should’ve hit #1 with hot girl bummer first, but whatever. As for Demi Lovato, I forgot that Hits 1 actually likes her quite a bit and she becomes only the second female artist to hit #1 on the Countdown this year, which is a little bit ridiculous. (The other one was Ashe... y'know, paired up with a 1D Boi)

Kwaheri, everybody! See you all later.
I had to spoil the big surprise for this one as it was about time 2020 was coming to a close. But it looks like Lewis Capaldi - Before You Go is the longest tenured song from this year.
ReplyDeleteAnd fun fact: This replaced his other song Hold Me While You Wait when it debuted on Hit-Bound for the first time last year and nearly stayed in one position during its entire run.
