Week of December 19, 2020 - Harry Styles (2)

Harry Styles (2)
Hey folks! Welcome to the second-last Countdown of 2020! I think that Hits 1’s Year-End list is gonna air today, but I’m not sure when it would air. If not today, next week probably. This week was… okay. There were some good things that happened, but for the most part, it wasn’t great. Mostly due to our #1. No exits this week, so let’s just jump straight into the Countdown!

Last Year’s #1: Nice To Meet Ya - Niall Horan [3/8 weeks at #1]

Countdown Extra: willow - Taylor Swift

Biggest DROP!!!: Put Your Records On - Ritt Momney (-7): Yaaaay! Even though I don’t hate this song, I don’t really want it to be a hit and it sucks that it’s gaining in pop radio.

Biggest Jump: Lonely - Justin Bieber/benny blanco & Holy - Justin Bieber/Chance the Rapper (+6): Wooh! Good week for Justin Bieber! I’m super glad that Holy’s become a top 10 hit here and I’d be alright if Lonely was a hit. I don’t really care about that song though.

Hit-Bound
One Whole Day - Dixie D’Amelio/Wiz Khalifa [2]

34+35 - Ariana Grande [6]
Body - Megan Thee Stallion [1]

SO DONE - The Kid LAROI [2]
Bitter - FLETCHER/Kito [5]
Deep End - Fousheé [2]
Stay Next To Me - Quinn XCII/Chelsea Cutler [1]
Goodbye - Shaylen [7]
Fly Away - Tones And I [5]
Go Crazy - Chris Brown/Young Thug [5; 2nd time*]
Blueberry Eyes - MAX/SUGA [7]

So despite no Countdown debuts, we actually got two Hit-Bound debuts, the first one being… Body by Megan Thee Stallion. I’ve already talked about this in my Hot 100 posts and yeah, it’s quite bad. Megan sounds fine and she actually has good flow in the verses, I just absolutely hate that chorus. It’s literally “Body-ody-ody” over and over again and it’s very annoying. Also, the production’s kind of questionable. I hope this doesn’t debut.

So Quinn XCII gets his first song on Hits 1 as a lead artist today, after he featured on Love Me Less with MAX in 2019. This song’s called Stay Next To Me and it’s with Chelsea Cutler. This is a really fantastic song. It’s honestly just a lot of fun. Chelsea doesn’t sound great, but Quinn XCII sounds quite good. The chorus is also just very fun. I really hope this is a big hit.

Best Debut: Stay Next To Me - Quinn XCII/Chelsea Cutler

As Long As You’re Right Here, Blurb Next to Me

So we technically lost a Hit-Bound song this week, willow by Taylor Swift, but it played as the Countdown Extra this week, so it’s really not gone.

Wow, Overwhelmed jumped. I definitely didn’t expect that to happen.

How is Heather not gone yet? Come on! There’s absolutely no way that anybody’s listening to this anymore.

Why is Mood down at #17? Really? This should be #1! But instead, it’s freaking Harry Styles again.

So Bang! jumped a couple of spots this week and I’m pretty happy about that. I’d like for it to re-enter the top 15.

positions fell off of the top 5. Really?

Monsters is at #3 again and I can actually see this hitting #1 sometime soon, as it’s actually gaining elsewhere.

  1. I really hope that the song Tick Tock by clean bandit, Mabel, and 24Kgoldn enters the countdown before the end of the year.

    1. Unfortunately this will probably not happen unless it gets pushed to US pop radio which I don't see happening

    2. Has anyone heard 24KGoldn's recent song Coco with DaBaby yet? I highly doubt that one will be sent there, but it definitely is worth listening to as I already have.

    3. Yeah, I agree. Good song.

    1. Maybe. When it gets close to the end of the year, exits and debuts become rare. It's possible it'll drop low on the Countdown then leave early January.

    2. Wait. Mood wasn’t played on the countdown. But at least Holding on was played. Congrats to Iann Dior.😁

  8. NEW MUSIC ALERT: Lets love by Sia

    1. Sia's actually the featured singer in that song as the main artist is David Guetta.

Fact fact: It seems that David Guetta has collaborated with Sia over the years just how Shawn Mendes did with Camilla Cabello.
