Welcome one and all to my way-too late Weekend Countdown post! I wouldn’t say this week was that bad, the entrants were pretty good, and although there were a few bad jumps and drops, I don’t think I was too disappointed with this. Let’s get into it!

Countdown Extra: queen of broken hearts - blackbear
This month’s Hits 1 to Watch debuts first at #29, and it’s Ananya Birla with her new song Let There Be Love. This is actually out now, so I can actually listen to it without having to wait for Hits 1 to play it! I’m just gonna say it right away: This is much better than Control, the last Hits 1 to Watch. Ananya’s voice is really good, and although her accent makes it a little difficult to understand what she’s saying a lot of the time, the production more than makes up for it. It’s got some synth leads in the verses, which I think work really well, but then you get to the drop. It’s actually really really good. Honestly one of the best drops in a non-EDM song that I’ve heard in a while. If you haven’t heard it yet, you definitely should. Overall, this is a really great song, and I hope it does really well. I wish Ananya Birla all the best in her music career.
This next song debuted a lot faster than I thought it would. After only two weeks in Hit-Bound, Kane Brown, Swae Lee and Khalid’s Be Like That enters the Weekend Countdown. An unlikely combo, which I’ve pointed out before, but they work surprisingly well with each other. The song’s pretty chill, but I think that’s one of the reasons that this song isn’t great. Just good. Swae Lee and Khalid sound really good, but I think Kane Brown’s part is a little uninteresting. That being said, it doesn’t bring the song down a whole lot, but enough to have it not be one of my favourites.
We have a surprise debut next, at #20, since Hits 1 forgot to add it to the Voting Poll. It’s Maroon 5’s follow-up to Memories, Nobody’s Love. Yeah, this is much better than Memories. First of all, it’s not Canon In D. It’s also much more interesting than Memories. The production actually builds up a bit, and Adam Levine sounds really good. The song’s also pretty catchy, although I don’t really see this being that big of a hit. All that being said, this song is still slightly boring at the beginning. It takes a little long to build up. But yeah, good song.
I’m sure nobody was surprised that this next song debuted so quickly: cardigan by Taylor Swift enters this week at #18. Since I’m a little late to the party, it’s already #1 on the Hot 100, and no, I don’t really think it deserved it all that much. The song’s super boring, and really doesn’t have much substance. The chorus is alright, but that’s really about it. But of course, it’s Taylor Swift, and she always sounds fantastic, so I can’t dislike this. But it’s for sure not good. Honestly, folklore was such a “meh” album. You’ll see which two or three I liked when my Hot 100 post comes out.
Best Debut: Let There Be Love - Ananya Birla
Biggest DROP!!!: Funny - Zedd/Jasmine Thompson (-5): I really like this song, but this is just funny. Hits 1 gave this song quite a bit of push, and it debuted after one week on the Voting Poll, then it got the biggest drop on its second week. Kind of hope it jumps next week though.
Biggest Jump: Savage Love (Laxed - Siren Beat) - Jawsh 685/Jason Derulo, Control - Zoe Wees & Kings & Queens - Ava Max (+8): Wow, a three-way tie all at 8 spots. Not sure what the odds of that are, but whatever. I’m really glad that Savage Love is becoming a hit. As for Control, I’m not as happy, but I do find it funny that it jumped as soon as Hits 1 stopped pushing it. Kings & Queens though. Hunh? I’m extremely happy that this song’s in the top 10, but how? It’s not even a hit. Whatever, I’ll definitely take it.

A beat in a Billie Eilish song? Woah! That being said, my future still isn’t that good. Billie still sings super quietly, and nothing about it is interesting in the least for like the first minute and a half before the beat kicks in. But after that, it’s actually not horrible. Her voice still isn’t great, but the production’s honestly pretty good at that point. But yeah, this takes way too long to build up. But definitely better than everything i wanted.
New Dan + Shay is next, in the form of I Should Probably Go To Bed. I’d say this is probably the second single from a new album, after 10,000 Hours. This is good. Except, that’s how I feel about every Dan + Shay song before I get really tired of it really quickly. But for the meantime, this is good. It’s a little slow, but I think both of their voices make up for it in this. The hard violin hits in the bridge kind of shocked me at first listen, but now listening to it, it’s just funny. Yeah, this is good.

When You Are Young They Assume You Blurb Nothing
100 Ways is at the bottom spot in its third week. HA.
Why did Come & Go drop? I get that this actually isn’t doing that well at pop radio, but it’s a really good song, it deserved to jump.
(To the tune of Roses) Roses. Really needs to start jumping soon, yeah you know it. It’s a huge hit, though Hits 1 doesn’t show it. Yeah you really know that you like, you like Roses. Roses please jump higher… I will accept applause now, please and thank you.
How has death bed not left yet? It’s literally doing nothing on the Countdown, and I’ve almost completely forgotten that it’s here.
So No Judgement’s back in the top 15 why?
Savage didn’t deserve to drop out of the top 10.
I Hope is in the top 10? Wut? I’m certainly happy, but kind of confused, even though it’s a hit. Wait. Now I’ve confused myself about my confusion. Why does this always happen?
No. Rain On Me can’t drop out of the top 5! Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy?
Sunday Best is at #6? Um… good?
Okay, rant time. Moral of the Story is at #3. If Niall Horan hadn’t remixed this, it would never have re-entered, but just because Hits 1 can’t let a Niall song slip by, they somehow let him take this to the top 5. There was NO point to bringing it there, especially considering the remix is much worse. With my luck, this will probably hit #1 in the coming weeks. This has NO right to be here, and NO right to be in the top 3.
Oh, yeah! I forgot to mention the exits for this week! Intentions, The Bones and Falling are the only ones that actually left. I’m happy with the amount of success that Intentions got, even if it was getting kind of old and annoying. I would’ve been happy if The Bones lasted a bit longer, but whatever, I’m not that upset, and I could’ve sworn that Falling had already left. About time.
We lost three Hit-Bound songs this week. Drinks, Don’t Rush and Heartless. Drinks was bad, so I’m not at all sad or surprised that it’s gone. Don’t Rush was really good, and I’m sad that it didn’t debut, and I’m really surprised that Heartless wasn’t a bigger hit. But it did debut the Countdown for a couple weeks, so it’ll probably make it on my year-end list. Also, I forgot to mention that Wishing Well left last week. I honestly don’t care that much, since Come & Go is much better.

ReplyDeleteThank for your MOTS rant. I swear to god he’s gonna be the only reason we finally have a female artist at #1 for the first time since YNTCD almost a year ago, and she’s not even one who can sing very well ffs.
ReplyDeleteGreat post.
Yeah, Niall Horan is gonna be the only reason Ashe is gonna have a new #1 because Niall was from One Direction and what not.

ReplyDeleteProbably.
DeleteISPGTB Is A Single
ReplyDeleteYeah, ISPGTB unfortunately is a single, it's so boring as hell. It's probably gonna debut the countdown and what not.
DeleteJxdn - angels and demons is debuting
ReplyDeleteFireball said it is the hit bound sound of the week
They should update the poll for Angels and Demons and take down Supalonely.
DeleteAngels And Demons is a good song.
DeleteWhy'd u diss Moral of the Story like that though
ReplyDeleteBecause it should've left a long time ago, but only because Niall Horan remixed it, it's now in the top 5. It's kind of ridiculous fangirling from Hits 1.
DeleteI prefer MoTS without him. Hits 1 stans One Direction.
DeleteAbsolutely.
DeleteMe too.
DeleteI heard What's Poppin and Lose Somebody.
ReplyDeleteI'm hearing the remix on a hit extra channel

DeleteSo that means they can debut.

ReplyDelete#1 Recommendation For Hits1: Ariana Grande/Chaka Khan - Nobody.
ReplyDeleteHits 1 is playing One Last Time by Queen Ari. I forgot how amazing her old stuff was.
ReplyDeleteI didn’t
DeleteAgreed. Ariana Grande is literally the definition of a queen imo, she is SO talented.
DeleteOLT is so amazing.
DeleteI just listened to Post Malone's Hollywood's Bleeding for the first time. I'm not sure why I didn't earlier, because every single track is a freaking bop. It's one of my favourite albums of all time. (The others are Night Visions and Evolve by Imagine Dragons, Lover by Taylor Swift and Pray for the Wicked by Panic! At The Disco)
