This week was mostly bad. We lost a fantastic song, gained a really bad song, and the jumps/drops… let’s just say it was pretty much the opposite of what I wanted. So yeah, it wasn’t very good. But if you like this Countdown, that’s totally fine.

Countdown Extra: Ur So F**kInG cOoL - Tones And I

Our first and only debut this week is my new least favourite song on the Countdown, Daisies by Katy Perry. I haven’t really loved any song from her next album, but this one I really hate. The verses are actually pretty boring, although she sounds alright. The production’s also boring, except I kind of like the guitar at the start of the chorus. But for the rest of it, it’s just some synths and percussion, both with heavy reverb. Then when you get to the chorus, on the last “daisies!” she just absolutely screams. It reminds me of Nightmare, except worse, because I like Halsey’s voice more than Katy Perry’s. Luckily, she only yells twice per chorus, but it still sounds really bad. So yeah, this isn’t good.

Biggest DROP!!!: Level of Concern - Twenty One Pilots (-10): This song was only good, not great, and it’s starting to drop on every chart, so I’m not sad.

Biggest Jump: death bed (coffee for your head) - Powfu/beabadoobee (+12): MGYUGMIKUHDMNOLIAUSHNFOIUHMFAOIUHMEIUNHFPAOIUENHFKMMMMHJFMYGFKJHMSFUYGMKUJFHMFJGMUYFGMEYFGM. WHYYYYYYYYYYYYY? The ONE thing that I liked about Hits 1 not making sense was this not jumping. *sighs*

So our only Hit-Bound debut this week is actually a voting poll debut, Past Life by Trevor Daniel and Selena Gomez. I actually like this. I still don’t love Trevor Daniel’s voice, but it’s definitely better here than in Falling, especially because half of the song is sung by Selena Gomez. The beat’s really good, and I actually really really like the production. One of my only problems with this though is that Selena Gomez’s chorus is really obviously chopped up, and you can tell it took her multiple takes, but that’s not a huge problem. The song’s super catchy, and I can definitely see this being a pretty big hit. Pretty solid song.

‘Til They Cover Me in Blurbies, Blurbies, BLURBIES!!!

We lost one song this week… Blinding Lights by The Weeknd. This is still pretty high on all of the charts, so I’m really sad that it’s already gone here, because this means it might not be #1 of the year. I mean, if I’m being honest, it was always gonna go to Watermelon Sugar. But yeah, I’m really sad that this is gone, since this is one of my favourite songs from the past ten years.

Control pulled a Sunday Best again. I don’t know if this is just a Hits 1s to Watch thing or not, but it’s alright, because Hit-Bound was 16 songs, so it seems as though they know. On the topic of Hits 1s to Watch, it’s a monthly thing rather than a weekly thing.

ROCKSTAR dropped. This makes absolutely no sense, because for one thing, it’s #1 on the Hot 100, and it was doing incredibly well on airplay this week. Hits 1 makes no sense.

Roses is hopefully starting to jump… did I just jinx it? Oh no, I probably jinxed it.

Intentions is starting to dip. I’m sad it didn’t peak higher, but it’s getting pretty old.

Cruel Summer and Kings & Queens both jumped big this week. I really hope they both become big hits here.

You may notice that both Oh My God and Old Me dropped to red. Both songs are extremely overplayed, and I lose my mind every time I hear them.

The Bones jumped way back up to #8 this week, and I’m really happy, since this song is both a hit and pretty good.

Break My Heart is #2. Come on, Hits 1. Just give Dua the #1 already.
