Last Year's #1: Circles - Post Malone [1/3 weeks at #1]

Aw, I was hoping that this first song would debut MUCH higher. Instead, HOLIDAY by Lil Nas X debuted at #37 this week. This is a fantastic song and it deserves to be higher. I've already talked about this quite a bit: I love the production here, Lil Nas X sounds great and I love the lyrics. I hope this jumps in the next few weeks.

So Future and Lil Uzi Vert released an album together this week, Pluto x Baby Pluto. So there's only one song here, then three On the Verge. The single is called Drankin N Smokin and this is actually quite good. Both artists deliver a pretty good performance and even though it's pretty forgettable, the production is still good and I like it.

So I guess it's time for the holidays again, as Mariah Carey's All I Want for Christmas Is You re-entered the Top 40 this week. (By the way, the number of weeks is probably not right. I tried figuring it out, but it took a lot of time, then I screwed up. So you'll probably get a more... um... right number next week.) This is hands-down the most popular Christmas song of all time, as it actually hit #1 around this time last year. I'd say it holds that title for pretty good reason. Mariah Carey sounds good and the song's ridiculously catchy. Good song.

So Chris Stapleton debuts this week with his new song Starting Over. This grew on me a tiny bit. Mostly just because I don't hate his voice and the melody's really well-done. But, I still find this song kind of boring and forgettable. The guitar's kind of bland and there's not too much production. Mediocre song.

So this new Billie Eilish song actually debuted the Hot 100 last week at #96, because it was released on a Thursday, so it got a couple days of tracking. So now, it jumps all the way up to #2 with its first full week of tracking. Anyways, this isn't her worst, but it's still not good by any means. The only reason I say it isn't horrible is because the chorus slaps. But, the verses just bring down this song SO MUCH. She's literally just whispering. She's not even singing. I'm glad that Mood could block this from being #1 though.

Best Debut: HOLIDAY - Lil Nas X

Biggest DROP!!!: Forever After All - Luke Combs (-13): Hunh, I didn't expect this to not do well at all. Whatever, I don't care about it that much.

Biggest Jump: Levitating - Dua Lipa/DaBaby (+6): YES this is in the top 20! Hopefully this makes it to the top 10 really soon, because I really want it to be a huge hit.

My Top 5 Picks
#5: positions - Ariana Grande
#4: Levitating - Dua Lipa/DaBaby
#3: HOLIDAY - Lil Nas X
#2: Lemonade - Internet Money/Gunna/Don Toliver/NAV
#1: Mood - 24kGoldn/iann dior

My Bottom 5 Picks
#5: Therefore I Am - Billie Eilish
#4: Happy Anywhere - Blake Shelton/Gwen Stefani
#3: ily (i love you baby) - Surf Mesa/Emilee

Artists with the Most Songs on This Post: DaBaby, Future & Lil Uzi Vert (4)

On the Verge
Big, Big Plans - Chris Lane (#42) [2]
pov - Ariana Grande (#45) [2; 2nd time*]
Stripes Like Burberry - Future/Lil Uzi Vert (#46) [1]
Diamonds - Sam Smith (#48) [1; 2nd time]
That's It - Future/Lil Uzi Vert (#50) [1]
you broke me first - Tate McRae (#51) [8]
I Should Probably Go To Bed - Dan + Shay (#52) [14]
Real Baby Pluto - Future/Lil Uzi Vert (#54) [1]
Ain't Always The Cowboy - Jon Pardi (#55) [2]
Mr. Right Now - 21 Savage/Metro Boomin/Drake (#56) [5; 2nd time*]

FRANCHISE - Travis Scott/Young Thug/M.I.A. (#58) [4; 2nd time*]
my ex's best friend - Machine Gun Kelly/blackbear (#59) [6; 2nd time]
Took Her To The O - King Von (#60) [2]
B.S. - Jhené Aiko/H.E.R. (#62) [2; 2nd time]

Our next Future and Lil Uzi Vert song is called Stripes Like Burberry. This is the best song from this album that we got this week. I really like the chorus. The verses are only alright, but the chorus is really good. The production's decent and both artists here sound good. Not much else to say here.

So Diamonds left the Top 40 after only one week at #40. Whatever, I guess.

The next song from Pluto x Baby Pluto is called That's It. Meh. There's literally nothing that sticks out here or is all that interesting. That being said, both Future and Uzi Vert both sound good and the production exits, so this is decent.

The last song from that album is called Real Baby Pluto. This is good. I actually quite like the flow from both artists here. The production's good too. Not much else to say.

So because Joe Biden won the US election, Phoebe Bridgers and Maggie Rogers released a cover of Iris by The Goo Goo Dolls for one day for sale only. Unfortunately, that means that this song isn't on Spotify, so I searched YouTube for as much as I could hear. The original is definitely better. I don't think that Phoebe and Maggie do a bad job with this, I just think the original's much better. The harmonies here could be a lot tighter and a few more takes would've benefited this. Still a good cover though, they both sound quite good.

Best Debut: Stripes Like Burberry - Future/Lil Uzi Vert

Ay, It's a Blurb-iday

Other than Diamonds, we lost Come & Go, What That Speed Bout!?, Got What I Got and Wonder. I'm sad Come & Go didn't do too well, I'm not too surprised that a Nicki Minaj song didn't do well, Got What I Got was never good and I'm sad that Wonder wasn't really a hit.

For On the Verge, we lost Everywhere But On by Matt Stell, Tyler Herro by Jack Harlow and SO DONE by The Kid LAROI. I don't care about Everywhere But On, but I'm really sad that Tyler Herro and SO DONE are gone.

34+35 jumped this week, which I find a little surprising, since I didn't think it would be the type of song that would rebound from an album bomb, even despite being released as a single.

Hawái dropped ten spots this week, which I don't find all too surprising.

Lemonade... dropped? Hunh. How is that even possible?

Mood held at #1 this week, which I honestly didn't expect. Definitely happy though.

Hot 100 Exits from Past Top 40/On the Verge Songs

Week of November 28, 2020 - Shawn Mendes (2)

Shawn Mendes (2)
Hey guys, I’ve actually got quite a bit to talk about today. So first, the weird scheduling for this week. Since it’s Thanksgiving Weekend, Hits 1 aired the Countdown today, on a Thursday. I wasn’t too aware of this, so I planned to get my Hot 100 post dated for this weekend out tomorrow, when it would normally come out. So my Hits 1 posts will just come out before my Hot 100 post, which will definitely drop tomorrow. November Callout Scores will come shortly after that. Next, let’s talk about Year-End posts. Since this is the official end of the Billboard tracking year, Billboard and Hits 1 should get their year-end lists out really soon, at which point, I’ll do a full review of each list. After the last Countdown in December (December 26), I’ll put my Year in Review post out, which is basically just a bunch of statistics and fun stuff like that for this year. Once January rolls around, you’ll probably see my Bottom 10 Songs of 2020 post and my Top 45 Songs of 2020. If I plan anything else, I’ll let you guys know. Also, the 2019 Ultimate Rank should finish soon. I’m sorry that that took so long, but I should wrap it up soon enough. Oh also, the 2020 Ultimate Rank will start in January, at which point I’ll explain some of the changes that I made this year so that it doesn’t take so long. Wooh! I apologize for that super long intro. Here’s the exit for this week.

Countdown Extra: Blueberry Eyes - MAX/SUGA

Our only debut this week is the second single from Miley Cyrus’ upcoming album, Plastic Hearts. This one’s called Prisoner and it features Dua Lipa. It sounds like Miley’s album’s gonna be super based on 80s music and since Dua Lipa released a pretty 80s-sounding album, Future Nostalgia, earlier this year, she really fits here. I’m not too sure if I’m entirely on board with 80s Miley Cyrus, as I don’t think her voice works too well with that type of production. As for Dua Lipa, I’ve made it pretty clear on this blog that I like her with 80s music. My other problem with this song other than Miley Cyrus is the fact that the chorus is pretty much exactly the same as Physical by Olivia Newton-John. Maybe not the entire chorus, but definitely the “Prisoner, prisoner” part and I find it odd how Miley couldn’t think of an original melody. Still a good song though.

Biggest DROP!!!: HOLIDAY - Lil Nas X (-8): Aww, that sucks that this song dropped to the very bottom of the Countdown on its second week. However, the bottom spot isn’t off the Countdown, so I still hold hope.

Biggest Jump: Take You Dancing - Jason Derulo (+13): That’s good that this is getting success. It’s fading on me a bit, but I’m still happy that it’s in the top 15.

Our only Hit-Bound debut this week is an extremely Canadian collaboration and I’m actually quite surprised it hasn’t happened yet. This song, Monster will probably appear on both Shawn Mendes’ upcoming album, Wonder and Justin Bieber’s upcoming untitled album. This song is fantastic. I expected it to be pretty upbeat, but I’m actually glad that it’s not. I like the direction they took with this much more than I thought I would. It actually sounds quite pop-rock and it’s got some pretty groovy production in the chorus. Shawn and Justin both sound fantastic and their voices actually blend pretty well together. I’m really excited for this song’s chart run and both of these albums. Great song.

Prisoner, Prisoner, Blurbed Up Can’t Get You Off My Mind, Off My Mind

It was actually a pretty active week this week despite it being a short week. So there should be quite a few blurbs.

So our only exit this week was Be Happy. I liked this song although I never found it great, but I kind of wished that it did better here.

We also had a Hit-Bound exit this week, FRANCHISE. I’m quite sad that this flopped, as it was a good song and it would’ve been cool to see it on the Countdown. Also, it would’ve given both Travis Scott and Young Thug two songs on the Countdown this year. (Take What You Want and Go Crazy)

Lonely dropped a couple of spots this week. Meh. I honestly don’t care that much.

What You Know Bout Love actually jumped up to #22 this week, which is really surprising. It’s having a weird run.

Holy isn’t doing well, which sucks because it’s actually a hit.

Falling dropped out of the top 10. Hunh. Hopefully, this leaves soon, because I’m kind of sick of it.

Heather jumped? Really? This needs to leave soon.

What the heck? Why is Mood almost out of the top 10? It’s such a huge hit right now and it deserves to be spending at least its third week at #1 this week, not almost out of the top 10 entirely.

Both you broke me first and positions jumped into the top 10 this week. I’m super glad that these are here, especially the latter since I’ve been enjoying it A LOT lately.

Levitating swapped places with Small Talk!!! How could Hits 1 even let this happen? This is amazing!

Golden by Harry “The King of Hits 1” Stylesdropped? You mean… before it hit #1 for over five weeks in a row? This is practically unheard of.

So Save Myself is up at #3? Okay? I guess I’ll take it. There’s definitely better that could be here.

Countdown Extra: Bummerland - AJR

The lowest debut this week is the second single from Justin Bieber’s upcoming untitled studio album. It’s called Lonely and he decided to collaborate with benny blanco and the uncredited FINNEAS on this song. I seriously don’t think benny blanco should be credited here, as he adds essentially nothing. I think this song’s kind of boring, although Justin definitely sounds decent in the verses. My main issue with this song is in the chorus when he’s singing “Loo-oo-oo-oo-oonely” and it actually sounds like he’s yodelling. Other than that, the lyrics are good and everything, but this still isn’t that great of a song.

So blackbear scores yet another song on the Weekend Countdown this week, despite this song getting little airplay this week. It’s Hate The Way with G-Eazy. I don’t really think that G-Eazy is that talented and his rapping has absolutely no tune to it and he’s essentially just talking. blackbear’s hook here is pretty good though and I really like it. It’s funny, there’s so much blackbear on Hits 1, but I still actually quite like his stuff. Overall, I still think this is good, but I think G-Eazy brings down the song a lot.

Wow, I actually can’t believe that this next song debuted. Yes, pun definitely intended. I’m talking about WOW by Zara Larsson, debuting at #25. I don’t really love this song. I definitely think Zara Larsson is talented and I really like her voice a lot. I think she does really well in the verses here. Key word being “verses”, because the drop is really bad. It was made by Marshmello and it’s pitched weirdly and has some weird bass effects. So yeah, I hope this doesn’t do well and it should’ve dropped out of Hit-Bound when it did.

Our fourth debut in a row is the first song from The Weeknd that I get to review today. It’s called Save Your Tears. This is not one of the strongest singles from After Hours. It’s the third 80s-sounding song released from that album and it’s definitely the worst. I find this song kind of boring and forgettable. He doesn’t sound fantastic in the chorus, but this is definitely more upbeat than his recent collaborations with Calvin Harris and Ariana Grande, so it’s better.

The second debut this week that only spent a week in Hit-Bound comes up next, HOLIDAY by Lil Nas X. I’m pretty sure I like this more than Panini now. I actually really like Lil Nas X’s rapping voice and here it’s definitely good. The chorus is really catchy and the production’s cool. Good song.

Our highest debut this week comes from Billie Eilish and this new one’s called Therefore I Am. Um… this isn’t absolutely horrible? It’s for sure not good though. The chorus is actually pretty solid and is pretty much on par with all the good girls go to hell. As for the verses, that’s a completely different story. She’s doing her whisper- uh… singing? No. Whisper-talking. Which I guess is technically just whispering. Okay, I’ve just confused myself now. Boy, I do that a lot.

Best Debut: HOLIDAY - Lil Nas X

Biggest DROP!!!: Falling - Harry Styles (-9): Yaaaaaaaaay! We actually have a week where Harry Styles isn’t #1!!! This stayed at #1 for way too long and I’m glad it’s almost out of the top 10 entirely. Hopefully we get a couple of weeks before Golden hits #1.

Biggest Jump: Fallin’ (Adrenaline) - Why Don’t We (+10): Oh, that’s good! I didn’t expect this song to jump that much, but I’m super happy that it did and I hope it does really well here.

Our first new song this week is by Clinton Kane. It's called Fix It to Break It and I like it. This song’s a bit slower, but it’s not boring, which is really good. The production actually evolves kind of nicely and I like Clinton Kane’s voice. I can definitely see this moving into green next week. I hope this debuts, but it doesn’t sound like the type of song that would.

I’m really excited that this next song is on Hit-Bound, Maluma’s Hawái, except a remix with The Weeknd. As I said yesterday, I wasn’t disappointed with The Weeknd’s performance here, because this was exactly what I was expecting. So I think The Weeknd actually added a lot to this song and I like Maluma’s voice. The song itself is pretty interesting and I like the chorus a lot. Even though I legit can’t understand any of it except for the stuff in the chorus and the word “Instagramo”.

So Tones And I brings a fourth song to Hits 1 this week. Will this be her second Countdown debut? No, definitely not. It’s probably gonna drop out of Hit-Bound like Bad Child and Ur So F**kInG cOoL. This is probably the worst out of all of her songs, but I still like it. I like her voice and I find it pretty cool, but the chorus here just doesn’t have much substance to it and the verses aren’t that interesting. That being said, it’s still a good song.

If anybody remembers Undrunk from last year, the artist from that song, FLETCHER, scores another song on Hits 1 this week. It’s called Bitter and it’s with Kito, who I think did the production here. They said that this was the Trevor Daniel remix, but they just played the original song, so it may switch in the next couple of weeks, but I don’t know. This is a good song. I definitely don’t think FLETCHER sounds nearly as good as she did in Undrunk, but the production here is cool and she definitely doesn’t sound bad. I don’t really like when it goes: “I’m bitter- I’m bitter- I’m bitter- I’m bitter” but it’s still a good song. (Also, don't judge how much I like this song based on where I ranked it on Hunter's rankdown. Just putting that out there.)

Both Go Crazy and Haunt You left the Countdown and went to Hit-Bound this week. I’m sad that Go Crazy didn’t stick around for too long and I really hope that it re-enters the Countdown soon. As for Haunt You, I find it funny how it left the Countdown as soon as they stopped pushing it and that shouldn’t have happened to Let There Be Love.

Save Your Blurbs for Another Day

Our exits other than the two I already talked about this week are: Mad at Disney, I Hope, Kings & Queens and Wildflower. I’m kind of sad that Mad at Disney left, but it was admittedly kind of forgettable, so it makes sense why it’s gone. As for the other three, they were all old, so I’m not disappointed.

Both Take You Dancing and What You Know Bout Love fell to the bottom three this week and I think both of them deserve to be much higher than that.

Okay, why is Put Your Records On actually becoming a hit? Does anybody actually like this song because I really don’t understand the appeal.

Yay, Heather is starting to drop! This stayed for way too long and should’ve left many months ago.

Diamonds is actually close to the top 10 and I’m happy, but this song is starting to fade on me. I just don’t like it as much as I used to.

Levitating is actually really close to the top 5 and I seriously hope that this can make it to #1, but I bet it’ll just be blocked by Golden.

Speaking of Golden, does this really need to be at #3? This makes more sense than Falling, as this is actually a single, but seriously? This is just way too much.

Our new #1 this week is Wonder by Shawn Mendes. Alright, it’s better than Harry Styles. It’s definitely not the best song in the top 10 right now, Mood should be #1 for many reasons, but I’ll take this instead.
