Countdown Extra: Mad at Disney - salem ilese

Our first debut got a phenomenal amount of airplay this week, and I didn’t actually get a chance to review it last week, since Hits 1 forgot to update the Voting Poll. Anyways, it’s the next single from Sam Smith’s album Love Goes, called Diamonds. This is a fantastic song. Sam sounds really good, and the production’s actually fantastic. The drop is really good here and I find the bassline in the chorus really good. It’s also a pretty catchy song. I hope this is a really big hit, since this is probably the best single released so far from Love Goes.

The next debut I also didn’t get to review last week, and it’s called Holy by frequent collaborators, Justin Bieber and Chance the Rapper. The first time I heard this, I thought “oh, yeah, that’s alright” but since then, I’ve really grown into it. The choir sounds really good, and this is probably Justin Bieber’s best vocal performance in a really long time, even better than Stuck with U with Ariana Grande. Chance the Rapper’s verse is still the best part in the entire song though. He actually has a decent singing voice, and his verse is honestly just a lot of fun. I also love when he says: “Chance, the Rapper”.

At #25 is a song I’ve reviewed quite a couple times lately, OK Not To Be OK by Marshmello and Demi Lovato. This is a good song. Demi sounds great, and the lyrical content is fantastic. My only problem with this is Marshmello’s production. Not that it’s bad, it just could’ve been so much better. It feels like he could’ve tried a little more, and this song just feels a little slow. Either way though, this is still a good song.

The highest entrant of the week is actually a song that left quite a bit ago, If the World Was Ending by JP Saxe and Julia Michaels. The thing is though, this actually made so much more sense than me & ur ghost’s re-entry. For one, it re-entered in the bottom half of the Countdown, and not at #5, and this song’s actually gaining traction. If you’ve been following my Hot 100 posts, it recently entered the Top 40. Also, I’ve actually grown into this since it left, and I like it again. Sue me.

Best Debut: Diamonds - Sam Smith

Biggest DROP!!!: Watermelon Sugar - Harry Styles (-6): Good. This song’s good, but it was definitely getting old, and I’m glad we’re getting rid of it.

Biggest Jump: Monsters - All Time Low/blackbear (+11): Also good. I really like this song and I’d be super happy if it became a hit here, even if it’s only here because of blackbear.

Our Countdown Extra this week comes up first, being Mad at Disney by salem ilese and despite the title of the song, this isn’t really a meme song. The chorus is actually catchy and pretty well constructed. It’s literally just about the world not preparing you for what love is gonna be like and I find that really funny. The end part of the chorus is the best. salem actually has a pretty good voice and I can see this becoming a hit. Good song.

The next song is by Canadian YouTuber (yup, that’s right) Tate McRae. This song’s called you broke me first and this is also a good song. Tate sounds really good here and the chorus is actually really good. The song’s a little mellow, but the production builds pretty nicely and when you get to the last chorus, it really picks up. I’m pretty glad this is here and also on the Hot 100. Good song.

Control is back. I didn’t really think that this would return and I’m kind of upset that they didn't let Let There Be Love stick around, but whatever, I don’t hate the song.

So this next song was a Hit-Bound dropout back in April. Why is it back? Because Black And White wasn’t debuting and Hits 1 just needs their Niall Horan. Anyways, Small Talk is the name of the song and if you remember my opinion on this, I liked it at the start, then it faded on me. I still don’t think this is that great. The production in the chorus is a little grating and I really don’t like that guitar. That being said, it’s catchy and Niall sounds pretty good, but it has absolutely no right to be here. I mean, seriously, who’s idea was it to let this back?

So something I never thought would happen just happened. Hits 1 picked up on a Travis Scott song the day it came out. I guess they technically did this with Power is Power, but on FRANCHISE, Travis is actually the lead artist. It sucks a little though, because this song isn’t that great. Young Thug and M.I.A. are also on this and it’s alright. Young Thug doesn’t sound grating, which is really good and Travis Scott sounds really good. M.I.A. sounds alright though and does bring this down a bit. Also, I don’t love the production and I find it pretty repetitive. I wish that changed a bit, but this could very possibly grow on me.

So this next song, Hits 1 picked up on it because of pure speculation. I mean, seriously. Some people are pretty sure they saw Harry Styles filming the music video for this song, Golden, so as a result, Hits 1 added it before it was even released. Seriously, guys? This definitely isn’t the worst song that Hits 1’s picked up from Fine Line, that prize would definitely go to Adore You, but this isn’t good. Legit the only reason that this is better than Adore You is because this is a bit more interesting. I really don’t like the “da-da-da-doh” part. I guess Harry sounds fine and everything and this could grow on me, but this and Small Talk shouldn’t be here.

It’s Ok Not to Blurb Ok

We lost four songs from the Weekend Countdown this week; Nobody’s Love, WHATS POPPIN, Funny and me & ur ghost. I’m glad that Nobody’s Love and me & ur ghost are both gone, since the former was really uninteresting and the latter never should’ve returned. I don’t care all that much that Funny is gone, since it wasn’t really a huge hit, but I’m really sad that WHATS POPPIN’s gone.

We also lost three Hit-Bound songs, Black And White, Naked and Let There Be Love. It’s seriously about time that Black And White left, it probably should’ve left a while ago. It kinda sucks that they didn’t even give Naked a chance and it was really clear that it was only there last week because Ava was hosting. As for Let There Be Love, it should’ve gotten so much more success.

So Ashe is actually the Hits 1 to Watch for this month with Save Myself, which makes a lot of sense, because it dropped a few spots this week.

Somehow, ily is climbing. It really shouldn’t even be here.

Be Like That took a decent-sized tumble and I can definitely see it leaving soon.

ROCKSTAR also dropped quite a bit, which kind of sucks since it was quite good.

cardigan got a nice rebound though back up to #14.

Like That also got a huge rebound from its drop last week.

Both I Hope and Savage Love moved out of the top 5, which kind of sucks, because I thought they were gonna be hits here.

Before You Go actually moved back into the top 5. I would be upset, but this song’s dominated If the Countdown Made Sense for the past couple of weeks, so it makes sense that it would come back and it’s only been here for so long because they picked up on it early.

Come & Go is at #2!!! Hopefully it can steal the #1 next week from…

Moral of the Story. You’ve got to be kidding me. This song got practically no airplay this past week and should’ve made way for another song. I mean, come on, it has no right to still be #1.

I swear, if Dynamite doesn’t debut next week I will go on a huge rant.

Last Year's #1: Truth Hurts - Lizzo [4/7 weeks at #1]

In case you didn't notice, I switched the colour-coding on this too, and the lowest debut comes in with a yellow. It's More Than My Hometown by Morgan Wallen. Morgan Wallen's had probably too many songs on the Top 40 this week. He's not that great. This song is for sure more interesting than 7 Summers, which I'm glad has lost all traction, but he really doesn't sound good. Even though I said this is more interesting than 7 Summers, by no means does that mean this is interesting. It's still really boring and super forgettable. I hope this isn't a hit.

Marshmello and Demi Lovato come in next at #36 with their newest song, OK Not To Be OK. This is a pretty good song. It's a mental health awareness song, and I think they lyrically tackled this really well. Production-wise, it's alright. It's slightly uninteresting, but for the most part, it's a good song. Demi Lovato sounds good here, and nothing about it is bad, I just think Marshmello could've done a better job here.

So YoungBoy Never Broke Again released his album, Top, and three songs from it charted today. The highest one is My Window featuring Lil Wayne. It's okay. YoungBoy kind of sounds like Lil Baby, which is to say, not great, but it's alright, he doesn't sound terrible. Most of the song's pretty forgettable, and none of it really sticks out for me. Lil Wayne doesn't sound that good though. I mean... does he ever?

Best Debut: OK Not To Be OK - Marshmello/Demi Lovato

Biggest Drop: Savage (Remix) - Megan Thee Stallion/Beyoncé (-8): Wow, I didn't think that this would leave so soon. It's fine. It got a little old.

Biggest Jump: Lemonade - Internet Money/Gunna/Don Toliver/NAV (+16): Aaayyyy. I've really grown into this song, and I'm super happy it's getting some success.

My Top 5 Picks
#5: The Woo - Pop Smoke/50 Cent/Roddy Ricch
#4: Come & Go - Juice WRLD/Marshmello
#3: Mood - 24kGoldn/iann dior
#2: Dynamite - BTS
#1: Lemonade - Internet Money/Gunna/Don Toliver/NAV

My Bottom 5 Picks
#5: Lovin' On You - Luke Combs
#4: Die From A Broken Heart - Maddie & Tae

On the Verge
Bang! - AJR (#41) [3]

I Should Probably Go To Bed - Dan + Shay (#45) [5]
ily (i love you baby) - Surf Mesa/Emilee (#49) [2]
Kacey Talk - YoungBoy Never Broke Again (#50) [1]

Said Sum - Moneybagg Yo (#60) [4]
Ice Cream - BLACKPINK/Selena Gomez (#61) [2; 2nd time*]
Some Girls - Jameson Rodgers (#62) [1]

YoungBoy comes back with another song from Top, Drug Addiction. This song's pretty good. He sounds a lot less like Lil Baby here, and the beat's much more interesting. The chorus is alright. Yeah, not much else to say.

This next YoungBoy song has been on the Hot 100 for a while now, Kacey Talk. Again, this is just kind of boring, and there's not much to comment on here. His voice isn't that interesting either. Overall, it's alright, but there's really nothing to talk about.

Finally Ava Max's single from her new album, Heaven & Hell, Kings & Queens debuts On the Verge this week, at #57. Ava sounds fantastic here, the layering in the chorus is super well done, and the lyrics are amazing. It's also super catchy. I sincerely hope that this dethrones Moral of the Story on the Weekend Countdown next week.

Said Sum re-entered this week. I don't like this, so I'm not too happy.

I apologize for the lack of On the Verge reviewing this week. The next song is Some Girls by Jameson Rodgers. This is pretty much just your average country song. It's not great, it's not terrible, his voice is mildly annoying, and most of it is pretty annoying.

Best Debut: Kings & Queens - Ava Max

I Can't Love You More Than My Blurb-town

We lost a few Top 40 songs this week, Say So, death bed and Hit Different. Both Say So and death bed should've left for good a long time ago, and I'm really upset that Say So re-entered last week. But, they're both gone now. As for Hit Different, I seriously don't care that it only lasted one week.

We also lost some On the Verge songs: Nobody's Love, The Voice, Do It and Relación. Don't care that any of these songs left.

Die From A Broken Heart dropped quite a bit this week, which is great.

Tap In dropped out of the top 20! Hopefully, it doesn't re-enter the top 20.

One Of Them Girls actually debuted the top 20 this week! Super happy that this is jumping!

Blinding Lights just broke the record for most weeks in the top 5, and I'm SO HAPPY that it did, since it totally deserved it!

Hot 100 Exits from Past Top 40 Songs
death bed (coffee for your head) - Powfu/beabadoobee (#39) [#23] {26 weeks}
Intentions - Justin Bieber/Quavo (#48) [#5] {31 weeks}
Party Girl - StaySolidRocky (#61) [#21] {20 weeks}
my future - Billie Eilish (#90) [#6] {6 weeks}
Stuck with U - Ariana Grande/Justin Bieber (#100) [1 week at #1] {18 weeks}

Honestly, I'm fine that all of these songs left. I'm particularly happy about death bed, my future and Party Girl though. As for the two Justin Bieber songs, they were both old, so whatever.

Kwaheri, everybody! See you all soon.

Week of September 19, 2020 - Ashe/Niall Horan (5)

Ashe/Niall Horan (5)
Hello, everybody! So I have a lot of stuff to talk about today. First of all, the very last event on the Weekend Countdown Olympics is now available to do! So make sure you go do that, because the results for that are gonna go up this Thursday, then I’ll announce the winner of the entire thing this Friday. Other than that, I plan to wrap up the 2019 Ultimate Rank very soon, since I only have four more reveals to go, so here’s the link for the next reveal’s community rankings. Next up, I changed the colour-coding so it’s now on a six-point scale, rather than a three-point scale. So if you’ve read the 2019 Ultimate Rank, it’s the same colour-coding. If you haven’t, that looks a little something like this:

Purple: Best Song on the Countdown/Hit-Bound
Green: Great
Blue: Good
Pink: Decent
Yellow: Mediocre
Cyan: Bad
Red: Crap
Orange: Worst Song on the Countdown/Hit-Bound

So yeah. That’s just the new norm from now on. I realize that the oldest song on the Countdown isn’t represented, but the information is still available to you in the 5 Oldest Songs section underneath the Countdown Ranking. Also, this is my 200th post! From everything to the most random Hunger Games Countdown, to my 1-Year Anniversary post, everything's been a joy to make. Here's to another 200! #1: Moral of the Story - Ashe/Niall Horan (-) [5th week at #1] {19 weeks}

Last Year’s #1: You Need To Calm Down - Taylor Swift [1/1 week at #1]

Countdown Extra: WOW - Zara Larsson

Our first debut of the week is actually last week’s Countdown Extra, Monsters by All Time Low and blackbear. This is All Time Low’s second song on the Countdown this year after Some Kind of Disaster, and although this isn’t as good, it’s definitely great. I’m kind of a sucker for pop-rock, I mean, my favourite artists are Imagine Dragons and Panic! At The Disco, and I really like All Time Low’s stuff too. The instrumentation is fantastic here, and the vocals are honestly pretty good even though there’s a weird effect on them. blackbear also delivers a pretty solid verse, and he’s probably also the only reason this is here, so I thank him. Good song, I really hope this is a hit here, and it probably will be because of blackbear.

I guess Hits 1’s a huge Ashe stan now, as her follow-up single to Moral of the Story debuts after only one actual week on Hit-Bound, and pulls a Sunday Best, and this is so much better than MotS. She’s not mumbling like Billie Eilish, so it’s already leagues better. But the production’s also actually there, and the chorus is layered pretty nicely. This is only decent though, because it’s still a little boring, but it’s for sure more interesting than MotS. Definitely closer to good than mediocre. I can probably forgive Ashe for making Moral of the Story if more songs like this start coming from her. I hope this is a decent hit here, although I can’t possibly see it being that big.

Best Debut: Monsters - All Time Low/blackbear

Biggest DROP!!!: cardigan - Taylor Swift (-8): Sucks, although it does make sense since it’s starting to lose radio momentum. I wish exile was a bigger hit though, since that song was awesome, and easily the best song to come from folklore. Yeah, I'm not sure how I got there either.

Biggest Jump: Heather - Conan Gray & Falling - Harry Styles (+8): It really sucks to see Heather getting a rebound, since I thought it was a goner, but I guess I can deal with it as long as it doesn’t jump into the top 10. As for Falling, I’m really happy that it’s in the top 10, and I’d honestly be quite happy if it hit #1 here.

Let There Be Love - Ananya Birla [3*; 2nd time]

Before we start, there was some new music by Justin Bieber and Sam Smith, and I would review them, except Hits 1 forgot to update the Voting Poll, so they’re not technically on Hits 1 yet. But I’ll review them next week.

7 Summers left the Countdown after only one week, and I really hope that it leaves Hit-Bound soon and doesn’t re-enter.

Ava Max released her new album, Heaven & Hell this week, and to celebrate, she guest-hosted Hit-Bound. I listened to the album, and it was pretty good. Ava Max isn’t the type of artist that I love, but this was definitely a solid album. From it, she brings her new single, Naked. I’d say that this is one of the best songs on the album, even though there are clearly better songs, such as Who’s Laughing Now or Bring You To Hell. Ava sounds great here, (I mean, let’s be honest. Is there even a single song where she doesn’t sound good?) and the chorus is pretty good. I like the heavy-synth track here, and it kind of reminds me of Maniac, that type of production. So yeah, I hope this debuts soon.

I Could’ve Saved Myself… from Blurbs

There was only one song that permanently left the Countdown this week, that being Midnight. This song’s pretty old now, but I’m glad it hit #1, since I do like it.

Glad to see Over Now at #30. Hopefully, it doesn’t stick around for much longer, since it’s ridiculously forgettable.

I Should Probably Go To Bed and Midnight Sky both jumped into the top 20 this week. I’m pretty happy about both of them.

Before You Go really needs to leave. It’s been here for way too long, and at this point, I wouldn’t be surprised if it was #1 of the year, considering how quickly Watermelon Sugar’s dropping.

Come & Go and Bang! switched spots this week, and although I’m happy that Bang! is in the top 5, I’m really sad to see Come & Go leave, and I really hope that it can come back and kick Moral of the Story out.

Speaking of Moral of the Story, it’s not doing so hot on airplay, it’s sitting at, like, tenth or something, so this is probably the last week it’s gonna be #1 before Kings & Queens or Bang! kicks it off of #1.

The Global 200 Chart on Billboard is a Mess...

Yes, I know it's been a post-heavy week. You're welcome.

So, Billboard just last week released a brand new chart, and it's called the Global 200 chart. So basically, it's just the Hot 100, except 200 songs, and it includes the entire world, rather than just the US. So I thought today we'd take a look at this chart.

First up, the top 10.

#1: WAP - Cardi B/Megan Thee Stallion
#2: Dynamite - BTS
#3: Mood - 24kGoldn/iann dior
#4: Hawái - Maluma
#5: Laugh Now Cry Later - Drake/Lil Durk
#6: Savage Love (Laxed - Siren Beat) - Jawsh 685/Jason Derulo
#7: Blinding Lights - The Weeknd
#8: Ice Cream - BLACKPINK/Selena Gomez
#9: ROCKSTAR - DaBaby/Roddy Ricch
#10: Watermelon Sugar - Harry Styles

You can definitely see that the US has a ton of sway here, since WAP is also #1 on the Hot 100. You can also see the impact South Korea had, as Ice Cream is up in the top 10, whereas it's lower than the top 40 on the Hot 100. You can also notice the latino community bringing Hawái to #4, which I think is cool, since I like that song. The last thing I want to note here is that Mood is pretty high.

Next notable thing is that Pop Smoke is a lot higher than he is on the Hot 100. For The Night sits at #12, Mood Swings at #15 and Dior is still on the chart. Not sure which countries love Pop Smoke, but I'm not complaining all that much.

There's also two other spanish songs in the top 20, the remix of Sech's Relación and Ozuna's Caramelo.

Dance Monkey is #18. You heard right. DANCE MONKEY is still in the top 20. Oh, Australia.

Following up Dance Monkey is Head & Heart and Heather at #19 and #20, respectively. I totally get why Head & Heart is so high, because it's a pretty big hit in the UK, but I haven't a clue why the heck Heather is in the top 20.

Breaking Me's also #21, but that makes sense since both artists are from different countries.

you broke me first by Tate McRae is at #30, and I can't think of why, since Tate McRae is Canadian, and I'm pretty sure Canada doesn't have that much sway. Guess I was wrong.

...And the second old song is Someone You Loved at #32... great. Somehow, this ranks even higher than Before You Go, even though Before You Go is a current hit and Someone You Loved is about a year older. I'll never understand music.

GREECE by DJ Khaled and Drake is still in the top 40 on this list, so I guess Canada does have some sway.

Take You Dancing by Jason Derulo is sitting at #44, and I totally agree with this chart's placement of it. There's no reason why this song shouldn't be a hit, since it's pretty good.

Circles is at #51 on this chart, so I guess it is just the US that's still extremely invested in this song.

bad guy sits at #55, but honestly I'm totally fine with that, because I can't be upset with this still being here when what sits three spots down is much worse.

Baby Shark... you're freaking kidding me. I'm honestly just really glad that I wasn't doing Hot 100 reviews when this was charting. Don't ask me why this was charting at all.

Sunflower's at #59, and I honestly don't mind that whatsoever. I will never ever grow tired of this song.

However, Perfect by Ed Sheeran is sitting at #61. I really like this song, but this makes no sense to me whatsoever. Why is the world still listening to this more than Blueberry Faygo, which is a spot down? Like, seriously?

We just get a hit of old songs next, as Señorita, Toosie Slide, Memories and freakin' Old Town Road are on the chart back-to-back. Now I'm just really confused.

...And the FIRST country song on this chart pops up, as I Hope sits at #78. Wow, America is huge into country, and the rest of the world really isn't.

Shallow and Believer by Imagine Dragons sit at #81 and #82. This is where songs start to get really old, and I start to get really confused.

In Your Eyes by The Weeknd is at #83 because Canada. Not disappointed.

(Intro to Shape of You plays faintly in the background)

Be Kind is right after In Your Eyes, and I'm glad this didn't fall off as quickly as it did on the Hot 100.

(Shape of You starts to get louder)

Next is Still Don't Know My Name by Labrinth, and I haven't actually listened-

(Shape of You is now playing at top volume)

Dang. Okay, so somehow, Shape of You by Ed Sheeran from 2017 is sitting at #86... *sighs*... sorry, why, again? (In case anyone was wondering if I was gonna switch to the Global 200 chart or stick with the Hot 100, well, I'd say this speaks for itself, and, chances are, you've already read my Hot 100 post from today. Yes, that was a shameless advertisement.)

Yeah, SICKO MODE is sitting at #96... I don't think anything could surprise me at this point.

And, I can't actually see #101-#200, since it requires a Billboard Pro account, so that's all! Hope you guys enjoyed my little post, it was pretty fun to make, and I hope it was as fun to read. See y'all tomorrow!
